A study has been made of proton-induced reactions on the two copper isotopes 65CU and 63CU for bombarding energies in the range 12-46 MeV. This energy range includes the (p,n) thresholds for 65CU and 63CU, which occur at 217MeV and 421 MeV respectively. Excitation functions for (p, y) reactions were obtained by observing discrete y-ray transitions between low-lying states of the compound nuclei. Data were also obtained for the charged-particle reactions 65Cu(p,lXo)62Ni and 63CU(p, lXo.,)6Ni. As the respective (p, n) thresholds are crossed, the yields of proton-induced reactions on 65CU fall by a factor of about 5 while the excitation functions of proton-induced reactions on 63CU reveal no evidence of a significant threshold effect. These data are ompared with Hauser-Feshbach statistical model calculations. The structure in the 65CU+p reaction yield is interpreted in terms of Wigner cusps.

Absolute cross sections have been measured for (p, y) reactions on 63CU, 64Ni and 63CU over proton energy ranges of 1,05-3 '25, 100-3 45 and 105-4 70 MeV respectively, for (p, n) reactions over proton energy ranges from threshold to 3 25,3' 80 and 486 MeV respectively, and for 63CU(p, p')63CU over a proton energy range of 105-4'00 MeV. All the data are compared with global statistical model calculations. The agreement, to within a factor of 2, between theory and experiment is regarded as satisfactory for a global code, but the 64Ni data are suggestive of a closed shell effect at Z = 28.

Systematic experimental and theoretical investigations of the 72,73Ge(n,p)72,73 Ga and 72,74Ge(n,α)69,71Znm reaction cross sections are presented in the energy range from thresh- old to about 17 MeV neutron energy. The above reaction cross sections were measured from 8.8 to 11.4 MeV by using the activation method, relative to the 27Al(n,α)24Na refer- ence reaction. The quasi-monoenergetic neutron beams were produced via the 2H(d,n)3He reaction at the 5 MV VdG Tandem T11/25 accelerator of NCSR “Demokritos”. Statisti- cal model calculations using the code EMPIRE-II (version 2.19) taking into consideration pre-equilibrium emission were performed on the data measured in this work as well as on data reported in literature.

The evaluation of the 56Fe neutron induced reactions is currently ongoing at the CEA-Cadarache using the code CONRAD, with the goal to cover the whole energy range from the Resolved Resonance Region to the continuum and estimate the corresponding uncertainties and covariance matrices. Some first results and issues occurred from this work are presented and discussed here, more specifically on the analysed transmission and capture data in the Resolved Resonance Region, as well as the optical and statistical model calculations in the fast neutron energy range.

Excitation functions for 209 Bi (α, 3n), 209 Bi (α, 4n) and 209 Bi (α, 5n) reactions have been measured in the energy range threshold to ≈50 MeV using stacked foil technique. Excitation functions have also been theoretically calculated and as expected, inclusion of pre-equilibrium contribution based on exciton model calculations along with compound nucleus calculations using Hauser–Feshbach formalism reproduces well the measured excitation functions. Interesting trend in the ratio of pre-equilibrium to equilibrium component with projectile energy has been observed.

Excitation functions for evaporation residues in the reactions 206,208 Pb (6,4 He,2n 210 Po , as well as for the transfer reactions in the interaction of 6 He and 6 Li projectiles with Au and Pt were measured at the energies near the Coulomb barrier. Studied reactions were characterized by an increase in the cross-section compared to statistical model calculations.

The 7Li + 11 Β reaction has been studied in the energy range from a little below to about three times the Coulomb barrier by measuring the cross section of the 7- ray transitions in the residual nuclei produced. Statistical compound nucleus calculations have been performed in order to interpret the experimental data as well as to extract cross sections of the individual exit channels. The statistical compound nucleus theory can reproduce rather well the absolute j - ray and the various reaction channel excitation functions.
