Transporters of trouble: trichodorids and tobacco rattle virus in potatoes.

Abstract Trichodorids may cause both direct damage to the plants as well as indirect damage through transmission of Tobacco rattle virus in potatoes. Trichodorids include nematodes of among others the genera Paratrichodorus and Trichodorus, which are the most common in north-western Europe. This chapter discusses the economic importance, host range, distribution, symptoms of damage, biology and life cycle, interactions with other nematodes and pathogens, recommended integrated management and management optimization of trichodorids. Future research requirements are also mentioned.
