Abstract A description is provided for Cucurbitaria laburni. Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: Laburnum anagyroides, L. alpinum, Cytisus capitatus, C. pungens, C. radiatus. DISEASE: not researched, but its presence as a primary colonizer of recently dead bark suggests that it is most probably a weak pathogen affecting moribund twigs and branches, possibly following an endophytic phase. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Temperate Europe and North America. Recorded from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, UK, Ukraine and USA (New York, Ohio). TRANSMISSION: not studied, but the ascospores must be air-dispersed and the conidia are probably transmitted primarily through water-splash.

Abstract A description is provided for Leptosphaeria purpurea. Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. DISEASE: Although the fungus appears on dry stems of its hosts, which are mainly herbaceous, it is not known to cause any pathological symptoms. HOSTS: Artemisia, Betonica, Carduus, Cirsium, Cnicus, Clinopodium, Helianthus, Satureja and Senecio. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: NORTH AMERICA: Canada (Quebec, Ontario), USA (New York). ASIA: Pakistan. EUROPE: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Slovak Republic, Sweden. TRANSMISSION: Conidia and ascospores are dispersed by wind and rain-splash; the fungus presumably overwinters on dead host tissue and the ascospores are dispersed in the next favourable season.

Abstract A description is provided for Septoria cucurbitacearum. Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: Cucumis melo, C. sativus, Cucurbita ficifolia (=C. melanosperma), C. maxima, C. moschata, C. pepo and Bryonia dioica (=B. cretica). DISEASE: Leaf spot of cantaloupe, cucumber, melon, pumpkin, squash and vegetable marrow. The visible symptoms are circular, olive brown lesions, prominent on the upper surface of the leaves. With the progress of the disease the spots enlarge, usually reaching 3-5 mm diam., occasionally 8 mm wide and soon dry up. Older lesions tend to turn white revealing several pycnidia embedded within the tissue. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia); Australasia & Oceania (Australia); Europe (Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Rumania, USSR); North America (USA, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin). TRANSMISSION: Presumably by conidia disseminated by water splash in wet weather or heavy dews.

Ascomata of this species are produced on dead leaves, but nothing is known of how or when those leaves are colonized. No reports of negative economic impacts have been found.

No evaluation has been made of any possible positive economic impact of this fungus (e.g. as a recycler, as a source of useful products, as a provider of checks and balances within its ecosystem, etc.). Also, no reports of negative economic impacts have been found.

Some information on its dispersal and transmission and conservation status is given, along with details of its geographical distribution (Africa (Morocco), North America (Canada (Ontario), Mexico, USA (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington)), Asia (Georgia, India (Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra), Pakistan, Russia (Yamalo-Nenetskyi Avtonomyi Okrug), Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan), Europe (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, UK), Pacific ocean (USA (Hawaii))). C. obducens is widely considered to be primarily associated with Fraxinus species. One record in association with a species of Leptosphaeria. Reported from Hawaii as a parasite of the mistletoe Korthalsella complanata [Korthalsella taenioides f. taenioides], and found in association with microlepidopteran larvae on that plant.
