AbstractWe analyse a finite difference scheme for von Foerster–McKendrick type equations with functional dependence forward in time and backward with respect to one dimensional spatial variable. Some properties of solutions of a scheme are given. Convergence of a finite difference scheme is proved. The presented theory is illustrated by a numerical example.

SynopsisThe Langevin equation for the harmonic oscillator is solved by a different method from that normally used. The approximate solution for the case of the slightly anharmonic oscillator is then obtained by an iterative procedure and the results are illustrated by a numerical example based on a simple model of a crystalline solid.

A method of designing onedimensional photonic crystal is presented from the perspective of Z-domain and digital signal processing. The optical structure and structural parameters for the desired filtering spectrum in reflection can be directly obtained by using the design method. A design example is given in the paper to verify the method.

This paper presents a hybrid signal processing approach combining the wavelet transform and spectral analysis. A new approach to selecting a mother wavelet for decomposition of vibration signals was demonstrated. Subsequently, the bestsuited decomposition scale was selected based on the energy content of the wavelet coefficients. Subsequently, the envelope spectrum of the wavelet coefficients at the best-suited decomposition scale was used to identify the defect and its location. Experimental analysis of signals from a defect-seeded bearing has shown that the developed approach is more efficient than the conventional spectral analysis techniques.

Aiming at improving the unideal testing result by means of analog signal processing, wavelet analysis is introduced in the nondestructive testing of steel and iron materials, based on the characteristics of electromagnetic nondestructive testing signal. According to the requirement of wavelet algorithm for hardware, the advantages of DSP, digital signal processing function and high calculating speed, design scheme of the steel electromagnetic nondestructive testing device is proposed in this paper. Experiments show that this method can extract detection signal effectively.
