The uncertainty of today’s working environment, including prevalence of temporary employment conditions in many industries, has affected the psychological well-being of people in the workforce. Psychological well-being affects all aspects of a person’s life, including: pleasure, job satisfaction and fulfilment, and life meaning (Seligman, 2002). Previous studies have investigated how Psychological Capital (PsyCap) and Core Self-evaluations (CSE) are positively related to job satisfaction and performance, but there is little research on the relationships of PsyCap and CSE with psychological well-being (PWB). This present study explored the relationships among PsyCap, CSE, and PWB in a convenience workplace sample of 121 Australian working adults. Results revealed that both PsyCap (involving hope, optimism, resilience and self-efficacy) and CSE (involving evaluations of one’s own locus of control, self-esteem, generalised self-efficacy, and adaptive vs ‘neurotic’ behaviour) were separately positive predictors of wellbeing, consistent with previous studies. There were overlaps in concepts but both PsyCap and CSE together predicted higher levels of well-being than either alone, and CSE was found to be a partial mediator between PsyCap and well-being indicating that both elements were needed in prediction of well-being. Practical implications include that PsyCap and CSE measures can be used together in the workplace in assessment, selection, training and development to help improve the quality of health and well-being of employees.  Limitations and future research directions are indicated.

PurposeHow or whether dimensions of work-to-family enrichment (WFE) mediate the relationship between an individual's core self-evaluations (CSEs) and their psychological well-being (PWB) is yet to be explained. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of three WFE dimensions in mediating between CSEs and PWB in Indian bank employees.Design/methodology/approachThe present study collected data from 222 full-time bank employees working in Indian nationalized banks. The authors tested the study hypotheses using parallel mediation analysis.FindingsThe result showed positive associations among CSEs, all WFE dimensions (development, affect and capital-based) and PWB. Parallel mediation analysis suggested that two WFE dimensions (affect and capital-based) mediated the relationship between CSEs and PWB.Research limitations/implicationsThe use of a single source of data (Indian nationalized banks) limits the generalizability of the findings.Practical implicationsSenior management at these banks may build a happier and more satisfied workforce by implementing appropriate training and personality development programs. Empowering and rewarding employees for the desired performances may help them appreciate their self-worth, enrich their quality of life (by gaining positive resources from work-family interactions) and ultimately improve their PWB.Originality/valueThe research literature has been relatively silent on the mediating role of individual dimensions of WFE. The present study adds to the existing body of knowledge by exploring the role of individual dimension-based WFE in the relationship between CSEs and PWB.

This paper aims to investigate the psychological well-being in relation to group socio-cognitive factors at work. Data was collected on a sample of 133 participants that were employed and had a manager at the time of filling in the scales. The results support the mediation role of trust between transformational and organizational identification. Organizational identification totally mediated the relationship between transformational leadership and psychological well being and its subscales: purpose in life, positive relationships with others, environmental control. The relationship between transformational leadership and self acceptance, personal growth and positive relations with other was mediated by the trust in coworkers.

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the life order of entire community including employees from dual-earner families. Overlapping roles experienced can cause tension and trigger work-family conflicts that can impact workplace well-being. Previous studies had often focused on well-being in general and there was a lack of research related to well-being in dual earner couples during pandemic. This study investigated the predictor role of core self-evaluation and spousal support through mediating role of work family conflict (WFC) on workplace well-being. Based on the conservation of resources theory, we need to identify essential resource to fulfill workplace well-being. Data were collected from 200 employed Jakarta Metropolitan area (Jabodetabek) dual-earners who had at least one child below the age of 13. According to the mediation with two predictors analysis, the mediating effect of WFC can only predict the linkage between core self-evaluation and workplace well-being (β = 0.02, SE =0.02; 95% CI [0.005, 0.061]) but cannot predict the role of spousal support through WFC on workplace well-being (β = 0.00, SE =0.00; 95% CI [-0.002, 0.007]). This finding explained the importance of self-evaluation during pandemic to enhance workplace well-being and buffered negative effect of work and family related burdens.
