AbstractWe consider viscosity solutions of a class of nonlinear degenerate elliptic equations, involving a parameter, on bounded domains. These arise in the study of eigenvalue problems. We prove comparison principles and a priori supremum bounds for the solutions. We also address the eigenvalue problem and, in many instances, show the existence of the first eigenvalue and an associated positive first eigenfunction.

Abstract In this paper, we discuss the monotonicity of the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplace operator and the p-Laplace operator under a forced mean curvature flow (MCF). By imposing conditions associated with the mean curvature of the initial hypersurface and the coefficient function of the forcing term of a forced MCF, and some special pinching conditions on the second fundamental form of the initial hypersurface, we prove that the first nonzero closed eigenvalues of the Laplace operator and the p-Laplace operator are monotonic under the forced MCF, respectively, which partially generalize Mao and Zhao’s work. Moreover, we give an example to specify applications of conclusions obtained above.

AbstractIn this paper, we study the Monge–Ampère equations $\det D^{2}u=f$ det D 2 u = f in dimension two with f being a perturbation of $f_{0}$ f 0 at infinity. First, we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of radial solutions with prescribed asymptotic behavior at infinity to Monge–Ampère equations outside a unit ball. Then, using the Perron method, we get the existence of viscosity solutions with prescribed asymptotic behavior at infinity to Monge–Ampère equations outside a bounded domain.

AbstractWe show a Lichnerowicz-Obata type estimate for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of n-dimensional closed Riemannian manifolds with an almost parallel p-form ($$2\le p \le n/2$$ 2 ≤ p ≤ n / 2 ) in $$L^2$$ L 2 -sense, and give a Gromov-Hausdorff approximation to a product $$S^{n-p}\times X$$ S n - p × X under some pinching conditions when $$2\le p<n/2$$ 2 ≤ p < n / 2 .
