Concrete durability is one of the most important concerns in the field of construction. The environmentally friendly materials that can provide the durability are of great value in the construction of concrete structures. The use of natural pozzolans is one of the cheapest and most efficient methods in this field, which offers a good performance from environmental and economic point of view and satisfies required engineering parameters. In this study, the effect of using natural pozzolan in the manufacture of concrete exposed to sulfate and chloride ion of Oman sea water was investigated. The Taguchi optimization method was used to reduce the number of samples prepared, reduce the cost of experiments and achieve an optimal mix design. The four parameters, namely water to cement ratio, different percentages of natural pozzolan, super-plasticizer and cement grade with different ratios, were considered as problem variables. The Taguchi optimization method proposed 8 mix designs based on the defined levels for the variables. By constructing 96 samples, two parameters of permeability and water absorption from Oman Sea and drinking water were investigated in the samples. By introducing the results of the experiments into the Taguchi method, the final optimal design was presented by this method, and by constructing 12 additional samples and conducting permeability and water absorption experiments, the behavior of this optimal mix design was verified. The appropriate performance of the Taguchi method was demonstrated by obtaining the optimal mix designs from the Taguchi method, constructing this mix design and comparing the results with the regulation limitations. The results showed that it is acceptable to use natural pozzolan under moderate to severe chloride and sulfate ion attacks, but it is not recommended in the extreme environmental conditions.

This paper is to study the application of Taguchi Method when experimental cutting on Copper (CuA1) generated by a milling machine. The respone of this study is surface roughness while machining with varying machining parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. This experiment is using end mill HSS Ø16mm with uncoated and 2 flute with sequences of experiment base on the Taguchi Orthogonal array L934which carry out with 9 of experiments. The signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and confirmation tests with the optimal levels of machining parameters are carried out in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the Taguchi optimization method.

Taguchi optimization method is a statistical technique to optimize the selected factors and will improvise the quality of compositions. The aim of this paper is to define effective optimization techniques to identify the effective orthogonal array combination using experiments in the beam structure. The Taguchi L9 array has experimented in this study with three different levels and four parameters. After the completion of the experiments, the results are compared with fully factorial methods. The output will be in the form of S/N ratio and graphs. The best-optimized combination is found for minimizing the number of experiments. The size of the beam structure is 1250mm*150mm*150mm.

This chapter presents two methods to optimize the placement of capacitors in a distribution system and thus correcting power factor and reducing losses and costs. The first method uses ETAP software and its integrated algorithm of optimally placing power factor correction capacitors. The second uses the Taguchi Optimization method to solve the optimal capacitor placement problem in electric distribution systems. To test the efficiency of these methods, they were applied to various examples (different bus systems) and simulation results of the two methods are discussed.
