Study on pump pulse characteristics of QCW diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG laser

Abstract The influence of pumping laser pulse on the property of quasi-continuous-wave diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG laser is investigated theoretically and experimentally here. Under remaining a fixed duty cycle, the average output power increases, and the corresponding thermal focal length shorten with the increase of the pump pulse duration, which attributes to the decrease of the ratio of pulse buildup time to the pulse duration. At a pump power of 146 W, the laser output power changes from 65.1 W to 81.2 W when the pulse duration is adjusted from 150 μs to 1000 μs, confirming a significant enhancement of 24.7%. A laser rate equation model incorporating the amplified spontaneous emission is also utilized and numerically solved, and the simulated results agree well with the experimental data.

We report the characteristics of a diode-end-pumped, high-repetition-rate, acoustic-optic (AO) Q-switched Tm:YLF laser operating from 5 kHz to 10 kHz. In the continuous-wave (CW) regime, a maximum average output power of 8.5 W was obtained with a slope efficiency of 30.7%. Under the AO Q-switching regime, a maximum output power of 7.32 W was obtained at a repetition frequency of 5 kHz with a pulse width of 68 ns and a pulse energy of 1.4 mJ, corresponding to a peak power of 21.5 kW. A time-dependent rate equation model is introduced to theoretically analyze the results obtained in the experiment, in which the cross-relaxation phenomenon, upconversion losses and ground-state depletion are taken into account. Additionally, the evolution processes of population inversion density and intracavity photon number density with time are also presented. The theoretical results well predict the dependence of laser output characteristics of Tm:YLF crystal on the incident pump powers.

We report on a continuous-wave (CW) and passively Q-switched Er:Y2O3 ceramic laser in mid-infrared spectral region. In the CW regime, a maximum output power of 2.07 W is achieved at 2717.3 nm with a slope efficiency of 13.5%. Stable passive Q-switching of the Er:Y2O3 ceramic laser is demonstrated based on semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. Under an absorbed pump power of 12.4 W, a maximum average output power of 223 mW is generated with a pulse energy of 1.7 μJ and a pulse width of 350 ns at 2709.3 nm.

An unsymmetrical GaN based Doherty power amplifier (DPA) operating from 2.5GHz to 2.7GHz is presented in this paper. To achieve a good tradeoff among the output power, efficiency and bandwidth, the ladder-type multisection output matching networks are optimized for the carrier amplifier and the peaking amplifier, respectively. Measured with continuous wave (CW) signal, the broadband DPA provides more than 49dBm saturation power in the operating band. The drain efficiency is greater than 44% over 7dB back-off power. For a LTE-Advanced signal with 100MHz bandwidth, the drain efficiency is higher than 42% at an average output power of 41dBm, along with an adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) of better than-49.9dBc after digital predistortion (DPD).
