The areal extent of a biological community is usually determined using statistical techniques that only give reliable results where samples contain similar and high numbers of specimens. This paper presents a simple, inexpensive method for determining the geographical limits of biological communities applicable where adjacent samples contain widely differing numbers of specimens. The method is a development of SHE Analysis, which discerns boundaries between adjacent abundance biozones (ABs), an AB being an area with a distinct community structure. As originally conceived, SHEbi(SHE Analysis for the identification of Biozones) commences with species' absolute abundances and works best with large samples of equal sizes. If the variance in (per sample) is high, SHEbimay place AB boundaries in unexpected locations. A modification, based on proportional abundances, is developed here using species' proportional abundances () for each sample where is the number of specimens in theith species in the sample. For intertidal foraminifera from the Caroni Swamp, Trinidad, where , the number of specimens, fluctuates widely between samples, the modification (SHEbip) gives ecologically more sensible results than does traditional SHEbi.

To investigate nutrient removal and biological community structure in wastewater treatment system under different ratio of C/N/P, hybrid biofilm reactor (HBR) and sequencing batch reactor (SBR) in lab scale were set up. Results showed that both HBR and SBR achieved the best removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus when C/N/P=100/6.25/1. With the rise of C/N/P from 50/6.25/1 to 100/6.25/1, the removal efficiencies of NH3-N were greater than 93% in three phases of both reactors; the efficiencies of TN were increased from 65% to 79% in SBR while these values at HBR were from 73% to 86%; the efficiencies of TP were increased from 42% to 93% in SBR while these values at HBR were from 32% to 93%. Microbial community structure response to different C/N/P was determined by PCR-DGGE technology. Similarity coefficient was lowest and denitrifying phosphate accumulating bacteria became dominant bacteria in SBR when C/N/P was 100/6.25/1. There were many functional bacteria in HBR, such as bacteria for removing nutrients (Uncultured BacteroidetesFJ828150), bacteria for removing organic (Uncultured Saprospiraceae) bacteria for removing nitrogen (Ferribacterium sp.), and nitrifying bacteria (Uncultured Nitrospira sp.) which became dominant bacteria. Because of microbial diversity index of biofilm was up to 3.3, similarity coefficient was as low as 43.4%.

Bulang districts Batam Islands of  Riau province (Riau Islands), its consists of many islands with as well as having the potential diversity of coastal marine life in particular kinds of macro algae or seaweed. Conducted research aimed to determine the structure of macro- algal communities in the intertidal zone islands. The results of the identification of algal species found 16 species are: the Order of Chlorophyceae as 6 spesies; Order Phaeophyceae as 2 spesies; and Order Rhodophyceae as 8 spesies. The community structure at the five stations showed the highest values were found in the island of dominance Cicir (D ' = 0.79) , uniformity index values on Tengah Island (E ' = 0.99) , while the island Balak had the highest diversity index (H ' = 0.88) , with the abundance patterns of population structure on the island is pretty good Central . Results of correlation analysis of regression between IVI types of algae with the conditions of environmental quality suggests that there is a significance (Fhit ˃ F table and the value of r = > 90 %) between IVI algae Halimeda sp and Cryptarachne polyglandulosa at each station with a temperature parameter surface (⁰C) , depth temperature (⁰C) and pH values. Keywords : Algae, Community Structure, Important Value Index.
