An important function of a water distribution system (WDS) is to supply drinking water to each demand point using a pipe network that has minimal impact on the surroundings. To produce a reliable WDS, planning usually requires a significant amount of geo-spatial information. Current planning practices for pipeline systems, which gather geographic information based on maps, are time-consuming and cumbersome. With the rapid developments in computer and information technology, it is necessary to propose a new WDS planning method that enhances the current planning practices and facilitates the decision-making process. The proposed method allows project information in building information modeling (BIM) to be incorporated into a geographic information system (GIS) model, using semantic mapping to incorporate WDS project data and geo-spatial information to facilitate the WDS planning process. Moreover, a 3D visualization model of the proposed WDS project and its surroundings is provided. In addition, topological rules are set to identify any conflicts between the WDS project and its surroundings. A real WDS project was used to validate the method. The proposed method can help project participants better understand the WDS project and its surroundings and identify any errors in the planning process, thus improving sustainable development.

The paper studies integrated protection methods of pre-Qing architectural heritage area in Liaoning with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. First of all, pre-Qing architectural heritage in Liaoning is investigated, and the geographic information database is established. Then the composition of pre-Qing architectural heritage area in Liaoning is analyzed, and its value is evaluated. Finally, the traffic system of pre-Qing architectural heritage area in Liaoning is planned in order to facilitate its future protection. This research shows that the application of GIS for the overall protection of pre-Qing architectural heritage area in Liaoning is scientific, reasonable and feasible. Application of GIS technology can expand and innovate the ideas and approaches of traditional heritage protection, and provides a firm data foundation and powerful technical support for a better research and protection of this large scale type of heritage like heritage area.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a technology that focusing on the building element properties to the construction components which cover the interior and exterior building, while Geographic Information System (GIS) describe to the technology that can provide the large-scale information which cover inside and outside buildings (spaces and areas). In construction project application, BIM technology already been used as a worldwide tool while GIS rarely been applied. Each technology contains their own advantages that can be utilized in the construction project application. To bring the best effective approach in construction project, the integration between BIM and GIS technology can be considered. This paper presented an attempt in integrating BIM and GIS by using FME as a data integration platform to solve the limitation of BIM in construction project by using advantages of GIS. Through this research, an investigation of the data exchange during integration process between BIM and GIS will be look up. By using this approach, it is possible to store the BIM and GIS data in one environment. The end results for this paper will cover the method of the data exchange between BIM to GIS and GIS to BIM. Besides that, this paper highlight how GIS can solve the limitation in BIM in construction project.

With application and popularization of information modeling technology, both Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) could represent three dimensional models in different fields. By introducing application features of GIS and BIM in Metro construction, this paper presents such a thought that effective combination of GIS and BIM may play a role at different stages in metro construction.

In the past two decades, building information modeling (BIM) has been widely adopted by architectural, engineering, and construction firms. Its technology is based on the integration and coordination of different disciplines and professions. It involves creating three-dimensional models containing data that can be organized and manipulated to serve design, construction, and operational phases. This raises the debate over how the existence of a platform that enables urban planners and decision makers of different disciplines is so crucial. Several research studies have recently been done to integrate BIM with geographic information systems (GIS) for numerous purposes, as illustrated by several case studies. This chapter comparatively analyzes different cases, given general acknowledgment of each. Problems and potentials of the existence of such integration will be defined, in order to estimate the need for such a platform. Finally, a model of integration between different disciplines was illustrated as a motivation for further studies in the future concerning this topic.
