Accurate dose assessment within 1 day or even 12 h after exposure through current methods of dose estimation remains a challenge, in response to a large number of casualties caused by nuclear or radiation accidents. P53 signaling pathway plays an important role in DNA damage repair and cell apoptosis induced by ionizing radiation. The changes of radiation-induced P53 related genes in the early stage of ionizing radiation should compensate for the deficiency of lymphocyte decline and γ-H2AX analysis as novel biomarkers of radiation damage. Bioinformatic analysis was performed on previous data to find candidate genes from human peripheral blood irradiated in vitro. The expression levels of candidate genes were detected by RT-PCR. The expressions of screened DDB2, AEN, TRIAP1, and TRAF4 were stable in healthy population, but significantly up-regulated by radiation, with time specificity and dose dependence in 2–24 h after irradiation. They are early indicators for medical treatment in acute radiation injury. Their effective combination could achieve a more accurate dose assessment for large-scale wounded patients within 24 h post exposure. The effective combination of p53-related genes DDB2, AEN, TRIAP1, and TRAF4 is a novel biodosimetry for a large number of people exposed to acute nuclear accidents.

Abstract Due to the lack of blood vessels, nerves and lymphatics, articular cartilage is difficult to repair once damaged. Tissue engineering is considered to be a potential strategy for cartilage regeneration. Successful tissue engineering strategies depend on the effective combination of biomaterials, seed cells and biological factors. In our previous study, a genetically modified coculture system with chondrocytes and ATDC5 cells in an alginate hydrogel has exhibited a superior ability to enhance chondrogenesis. In this study, we further evaluated the influence of chondrocytes at various passages on chondrogenesis in the coculture system. The results demonstrated that transfection efficiency was hardly influenced by the passage of chondrocytes. The coculture system with passage 5 (P5) chondrocytes had a better effect on chondrogenesis of ATDC 5 cells, while chondrocytes in this coculture system presented higher levels of dedifferentiation than other groups with P1 or P3 chondrocytes. Therefore, P5 chondrocytes were shown to be more suitable for the coculture system, as they accumulated in sufficient cell numbers with more passages and had a higher level of dedifferentiation, which was prone to form a favorable niche for chondrogenesis of ATDC5 cells. This study may provide fresh insights for future cartilage tissue engineering strategies with a combination of a coculture system and advanced biomaterials.

The purpose of the research was to establish the most rational soil cultivation system for irrigated conditions, contributing to the preservation of ecological balance and increasing the profitability of pepper production. Experimental studies were carried out on meadow-chestnut soils of the plain zone of the Republic of Dagestan in 2017-2019. in a two-factor experiment to determine the most effective combination of soil cultivation and irrigation regime. The paper presents the results of the influence of plowing and disc cultivation on the water-physical properties of the soil and its biological activity, as well as on the yield of sweet pepper under drip irrigation. The results of three-year research have established that, under irrigation conditions, the most effective method of basic soil cultivation is moldboard soil cultivation to a depth of 0.23 ... 0.25 m, which contributed to the improvement of soil density, its permeability, structural state and increased biological activity in the treated layer. On plowing, the yield of sweet pepper fruits was obtained at the level of 6.23 t/ha. The use of disc processing by 0.10 ... 0.12 m leads to a deterioration of agrophysical indicators of fertility, phytosanitary state of irrigated fields by 1.7 ... 2.2 times, a decrease in yield by 5.1 ... 9.6% and profitability of pepper fruit production by 25.3 ... 31.0%.

The extraction of proanthocyanidins (PACs), despite being an important and limiting aspect of their industrial application, is still largely unexplored. Herein, the possibility of combining eutectic solvents (ESs) with microwave assisted extraction (MAE) in the extraction of PACs from grape pomace (GP) is explored, aiming to improve not only the extraction yield but also the mean degree of polymerization (mDP). The combination of choline chloride with lactic acid was shown to be the most effective combination for PACs extraction yield (135 mgPAC/gGP) and, despite the occurrence of some depolymerization, also enabled us to achieve the highest mDP (7.13). Additionally, the combination with MAE enabled the process to be completed in 3.56 min, resulting in a considerably reduced extraction time.

The world market of e-commerce is growing actively due to the development of such format of trade as marketplace. Its business model is only being formed, numerous factors influence its content in contradiction with each other. Its increasing popularity leads not only to new opportunities but also to new obstacles for market players, which can cast a doubt on viability of its use. The purpose of the article is to reveal what strategic decisions taken by developers and managers of marketplaces allow the creation of an effective combination of buyers’ and sellers’ aims on the platform, thus, providing mutually profitable exchange for everyone. Three approaches to the study of marketplaces have been identified based on the analysis of the empirical base consisting of secondary information: as a framework that controls the behavior of buyers and sellers in the electronic environment; as an information system; as a business model of an e-commerce. It is concluded that there are conflicting objectives with which the key participants come to the marketplace. The understanding of the business model of the marketplace can contribute to achieving consistency between the interests of sellers and buyers. Four types of marketplace business models have been identified, and they are classified into groups according to three components: value proposition, forms of revenue generation, content of the value creation process. It has been shown that the business model of a marketplace has both advantages and disadvantages, which forces market players to develop focused strategies, and at the same time marketplaces to create value propositions of at least four types: communication stimulation, business transaction automation, coordination of the market as of an intermediary in the value chain, integration of firms and process optimization. A conclusion was made about the prospects of a business model with competitive advantages created for each marketplace.

Background: The spread of rumors related to COVID-19 on social media has posed substantial challenges to public health governance, and thus exposing rumors and curbing their spread quickly and effectively has become an urgent task. This study aimed to assist in formulating effective strategies to debunk rumors and curb their spread on social media. Methods: A total of 2,053 original postings and 100,348 comments that replied to the postings of five false rumors related to COVID-19 (dated from January 20, 2020, to June 28, 2020) belonging to three categories, authoritative, social, and political, on Sina Weibo in China were randomly selected. To study the effectiveness of different debunking methods, a new annotation scheme was proposed that divides debunking methods into six categories: denial, further fact-checking, refutation, person response, organization response, and combination methods. Text classifiers using deep learning methods were built to automatically identify four user stances in comments that replied to debunking postings: supporting, denying, querying, and commenting stances. Then, based on stance responses, a debunking effectiveness index (DEI) was developed to measure the effectiveness of different debunking methods. Results: The refutation method with cited evidence has the best debunking effect, whether used alone or in combination with other debunking methods. For the social category of Car rumor and political category of Russia rumor, using the refutation method alone can achieve the optimal debunking effect. For authoritative rumors, a combination method has the optimal debunking effect, but the most effective combination method requires avoiding the use of a combination of a debunking method where the person or organization defamed by the authoritative rumor responds personally and the refutation method. Conclusion: The findings provide relevant insights into ways to debunk rumors effectively, support crisis management of false information, and take necessary actions in response to rumors amid public health emergencies.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial mechanisms of phenolic acids as natural approaches against multi-drug resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli). For that purpose, five phenolic acids were combined with each other and 31 combinations were obtained in total. To select the most potent and effective combination, all of the obtained combinations were examined for minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and it was found that the compound phenolic acid (CPA) 19 (protocatechuic acid, hydrocinnamic acid, and chlorogenic acid at concentrations of 0.833, 0.208, and 1.677 mg/mL, respectively) showed better efficacy against E. coli compared to other combinations. Furthermore, based on tandem mass tag (TMT) proteomics, the treatment of CPA 19 significantly downregulated the proteins associated with resistance (Tsr, Tar, CheA, and CheW), OmpF, and FliC of multidrug-resistant E. coli. At the same time, we proved that CPA 19 improves the sensitivity of E. coli to antibiotics (ceftriaxone sodium, amoxicillin, fosfomycin, sulfamonomethoxine, gatifloxacin, lincomycin, florfenicol, cefotaxime sodium, and rifampicin), causes the flagellum to fall off, breaks the structure of the cell wall and cell membrane, and leads to macromolecules leaks from the cell. This evidence elaborated the potential therapeutic efficacy of CPA 19 and provided a significant contribution to the discovery of antibacterial agents.
