The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery is the representative society for that specialty in this country and the vehicle by which orthopaedics has taken a position of leadership in the area of continuing education. This symposium was held under the auspices of the Academy at Hartford and Newington, Connecticut, in November 1970. Intended, according to the preface, "to bring an up-to-date overview of the philosophy, treatment methods, techniques, and general understanding of problems encountered in the management of patients with myelomeningocele and related disorders," the volume does just that and does so in an interesting, attractively prepared and well-illustrated format.
