A Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile and pink-pigmented bacterium, designated strain HF08T, was isolated from marine sediment of the coast of Weihai, China. Cells were rod-shaped, and oxidase- and catalase-positive. The isolate grew optimally at 33 °C, at pH 7.5–8.0 and with 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl. The dominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C14 : 0. Menaquinone 7 (MK-7) was the major respiratory quinone and the DNA G+C content was 44.8 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the isolate was a member of the class Bacteroidia, and shared 88–90 % sequence similarity with the closest genera Sunxiuqinia, Prolixibacter, Draconibacterium, Mariniphaga and Meniscus. Based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic evidence presented, a novel species in a new genus of the family Prolixibacteraceae is proposed, with the name Roseimarinus sediminis gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain of Roseimarinus sediminis is HF08T ( = KCTC 42261T = CICC 10901T).

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain YC7378T was isolated from vermicompost (VC) collected at Masan, Korea, and its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic approach. Strain YC7378T grew optimally at 30 °C and at pH 6.5–8.5. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain YC7378T belongs to the genus Sphingosinicella in the family Sphingomonadaceae. The most closely related strains are Sphingosinicella soli KSL-125T (95.7 %), Sphingosinicella xenopeptidilytica 3-2W4T (95.6 %) and Sphingosinicella microcystinivorans Y2T (95.5 %). Strain YC7378T contained ubiquinone Q-10 as the major respiratory quinone system and sym-homospermidine as the major polyamine. The major fatty acids of strain YC7378T were C18 : 1 ω7c, C16 : 1 ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH, C14 : 0 2-OH and C16 : 0. The major polar lipids were sphingoglycolipid, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine. The total DNA G+C content was 59.4 mol%. The phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic data showed that strain YC7378T represents a novel species of the genus Sphingosinicella, for which the name Sphingosinicella vermicomposti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YC7378T (=KCTC 22446T =DSM 21593T).

A Gram-reaction-negative bacterial strain, designated fig4T, was isolated from a subsurface sediment core of Qiangtang Basin permafrost in China. Cells were catalase- and oxidase-positive and rods. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain fig4T was a member of the family Hyphomicrobiaceae and was most closely related to members of the genera Pelagibacterium, Vasilyevaea and Devosia with 93.8–96.2 % sequence similarities. The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 0, C18 : 0, 11-methyl C18 : 1ω7c, C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c). The major respiratory quinone was Q-10 and the major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and two unknown glycolipids. The DNA G+C content was 60.7 mol%. Based on the phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic data, strain fig4T is considered to represent a novel species of a new genus in the family Hyphomicrobiaceae, for which the name Youhaiella tibetensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is fig4T ( = CGMCC 1.12719T = JCM 19854T).

A taxonomic study was carried out on strain 22II1-22F33T, which was isolated from deep seawater of the Atlantic Ocean. The bacterium was Gram-stain-negative, oxidase-positive and weakly catalase-positive, oval in shape without flagellum. Growth was observed at salinities of 0–12 % and at temperatures of 4–41 °C. The isolate was capable of hydrolysing aesculin and Tween 80 and reduction of nitrate to nitrite, but unable to hydrolyse gelatin. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain 22II1-22F33T belongs to the family Rhodobacteraceae, with highest sequence similarity to Pseudooceanicola marinus AZO-CT (96.5 %). The principal fatty acids (>10 %) were summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c/ω6c) (73.8 %). The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 66.2 mol%. The respiratory quinone was Q-10 (100 %). Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylcholine (PC), two unidentified aminolipids (ALs), six unidentified phospholipids (PLs) and one unidentified lipid (L) were present. The combined genotypic and phenotypic data show that strain 22II1-22F33T represents a novel species within a new genus, for which the name Marinibacterium profundimaris gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Marinibacterium profundimaris is 22II1-22F33T ( = LMG 27151T = MCCC 1A09326T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-flagellated, non-gliding, oxidase- and catalase-positive, rod-shaped, yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated strain SW230T, was isolated from a surface seawater sample collected from the South Pacific Gyre. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain SW230T shared highest similarity with members of the genus Dokdonia (95.0–94.5 %), exhibiting 95.0 % sequence similarity to Dokdonia genika NBRC 100811T. Optimal growth occurred in the presence of 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl, at pH 8.0 and at 28 °C. The DNA G+C content of strain SW230T was 36 mol%. The major fatty acids (>10 % of the total) were iso-C15:1 G, iso-C15:0, iso-C17:0 3-OH, and C16:1 ω7c and/or C16:1ω6c. The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-6. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids and two unidentified lipids. On the basis of data from the present polyphasic study, strain SW230T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Dokdonia, for which the name Dokdonia pacifica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SW230T ( = CGMCC 1.12184T = JCM 18216T).

Strain CBA3205T is a Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium that was isolated from the seashore sand of Jeju Island in South Korea. Based on the phylogenetic analysis, the most closed related species was Croceitalea eckloniae DOKDO 025T, with 94.8 % sequence similarity for the 16S rRNA gene. Strain CBA3205T was observed to grow optimally at 25–30 °C and at pH 8.5 in the presence of 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl. The major fatty acids of strain CBA3205T were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G, and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The major respiratory quinone was MK-6 and the major polar lipids were two unidentified amino-group-containing phospholipids and an unidentified polar lipid. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain CBA3205T was 62.5 mol%. Based on the phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic analyses, strain CBA3205T was considered to be a novel species belonging to the genus Croceitalea within the family Flavobacteriaceae, for which the name Croceitalea litorea sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CBA3205T ( = KACC 17669T = JCM 19531T).

A novel bacterial strain, designated GCR0105T, was isolated from a water sample of the Mangyung estuary enclosed by the Saemangeum Embankment, located in JEOLlabuk-do, South Korea. Cells of strain GCR0105T were Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and rod-shaped. Colonies of strain GCR0105T were pale yellow-pigmented on R2A agar and nutrient agar media, and were able to grow at 15–30 °C (optimum 25 °C) and pH 6.5–8.5 (optimum pH 7.5). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain GCR0105T was related most closely to Flavisolibacter ginsengisoli Gsoil 643T (93.14 % similarity). The polar lipid profile of strain GCR0105T comprised phosphatidylethanolamine, two unknown aminolipids, an unknown aminophospholipid and four unknown lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain GCR0105T was 42.9 mol% and the respiratory quinone was MK-7.On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic properties, strain GCR0105T represents a novel species in a new genus within the family Chitinophagaceae, for which the name Flaviaesturariibacter amylovorans gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Flaviaesturariibacter amylovorans is GCR0105T ( = KACC 16454T = JCM 17919T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, catalase- and oxidase-positive, non-motile and pink-pigmented bacterium, designated G22T, was isolated from Gahai, a saltwater lake in Qinghai province, China. Optimal growth occurred at 33–35 °C, pH 7.0–7.5, and in the presence of 2–4 % (w/v) NaCl. The DNA G+C content was 40.0 mol%. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and three unknown lipids. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 0 3-OH, and MK-7 was the main respiratory quinone. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain G22T fell within the class Bacteroidia . Its closest phylogenetic neighbour was the recently described species Draconibacterium orientale , the sole member of the family Draconibacteriaceae , with merely 90.04 % sequence similarity. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic evidence observed, a novel species in a new genus, Tangfeifania diversioriginum gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed within the family Draconibacteriaceae . The type strain is G22T ( = CICC 10587T = DSM 27063T).

Four Gram-stain-positive, aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, motile, endospore-forming, rod-shaped bacteria, designated strains FeL05T, FeL11, Fek19 and Fek21, were isolated from seeds of hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L. Jinyou 611), and their taxonomic positions were determined using a polyphasic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the four strains were members of the genus Paenibacillus. They showed 95.4 % sequence similarity or less with strains of other Paenibacillus species. The G+C content of strain FeL05T was found to be 53.3 mol%. Its predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The predominant cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0 (61.7 %), C16 : 0 (10.9 %), iso-C16 : 0 (7.0 %), anteiso-C17 : 0 (6.7 %) and iso-C15 : 0 (5.2 %). On the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain FeL05T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus hunanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is strain FeL05T (=ACCC 10718T =CGMCC 1.8907T =DSM 22170T).

Three bacterial strains, designated CCUG 51397T, CCUG 53736 and CCUG 53920, isolated from water samples taken at different locations in southern Sweden were studied to determine their taxonomic position using a polyphasic approach. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that these bacteria had <93 % sequence similarity to all described species of the genera Sediminibacterium, Lacibacter, Flavihumibacter, Flavisolibacter, Niabella, Niastella, Segetibacter, Parasegetibacter, Terrimonas, Ferruginibacter, Filimonas and Chitinophaga. The three organisms grouped most closely with Sediminibacterium salmoneum NJ-44T but showed only 92.5 % sequence similarity to this strain, the only recognized species of this genus. The fatty acid profiles showed large amounts of iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 1 G with smaller amounts of iso-C15 : 0 3-OH, iso-C16 : 0 3-OH and other fatty acids, which differentiated the novel strains from related genera. Biochemical tests performed on strains CCUG 51397T, CCUG 53736 and CCUG 53920 also gave different results from those of Sediminibacterium salmoneum NJ-44T and other related genera. Based on this evidence, strains CCUG 51397T, CCUG 53736 and CCUG 53920 represent a novel species of a new genus, for which the name Hydrotalea flava gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Hydrotalea flava is CCUG 51397T (=CCM 7760T). A formal allocation of the genera Sediminibacterium, Lacibacter, Flavihumibacter, Flavisolibacter, Niabella, Niastella, Segetibacter, Parasegetibacter, Terrimonas, Ferruginibacter, Filimonas and Chitinophaga to the family Chitinophagaceae fam. nov. is also proposed.

A Gram-negative, pink-pigmented, non-motile, strictly aerobic rod, designated CNU040T, was isolated from seawater from the coast of Jeju Island in Korea. The temperature, pH and NaCl ranges for growth were 4–30 °C, pH 5.5–10.0 and 0–5.0 % NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain CNU040T belonged to a distinct lineage in the genus Algoriphagus and exhibited high sequence similarity with Algoriphagus terrigena DS-44T (98.3 %) and Algoriphagus alkaliphilus AC-74T (96.6 %) and lower sequence similarity (<96.0 %) with all other members of the genus Algoriphagus. DNA–DNA relatedness between strain CNU040T and A. terrigena KCTC 12545T was 44.5 %. The DNA G+C content of the isolate was 48.5 mol% and the major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 (28.6 %) and summed feature 3 (consisting of iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c; 24.0 %). The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unknown amino lipid, one unknown aminophospholipid and three unknown polar lipids. On the basis of phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic data, strain CNU040T represents a novel species within the genus Algoriphagus, for which the name Algoriphagus jejuensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CNU040T ( = KCTC 22647T  = JCM 16112T).
