A thermotolerant, Gram-strain-negative, non-spore-forming and strictly aerobic bacterium, designated GU51T, was isolated from Guhai hot spring in Jimsar county, Xinjiang province, north-west China. Each cell of strain GU51T consisted of an oval body and two symmetrical long (3–6 µm) prosthecae. The strain moved by polar flagellum. Oxidase and catalase were produced. Strain GU51T grew within the ranges of 37–65 °C (optimum 48–50 °C), 0.5–7.5 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 2–3 %) and pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum pH 7.5). The major respiratory quinone detected was ubiquinone 10 (U-10) and the genomic DNA G+C content was 66.7±0.4 mol%. Major fatty acids (>5 %) were C16 : 0, C18 : 1ω7c and 11-methyl C18 : 1ω7c. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, five glycolipids, phosphatidylglycerol and an unknown phospholipid. Phylogenetic analysis showed the closest relatives of strain GU51T were members of the genus Parvularcula with 92.3 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. On the basis of this polyphasic taxonomic characterization, it is suggested that strain GU51T represents a novel species of a new genus in the family ‘ Parvularculaceae ’, for which the name Amphiplicatus metriothermophilus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the type species is GU51T ( = CGMCC 1.12710T = JCM 19779T).

A strictly aerobic, Gram-negative, yellow-pigmented, non-spore-forming rod, designated 15C3T, was isolated from aerobic leaf-and-branch compost at EXPO Park in Osaka, Japan. Growth was observed at 9–33 °C (optimum 25 °C) and pH 5.6–7.9 (optimum pH 6.1–7.0). No growth occurred with >2 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain 15C3T reduced nitrate to nitrogen and showed catalase activity but not oxidase activity. The predominant fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH). The isolate contained phosphatidylethanolamine as the major polar lipid and menaquinone-6 as the major respiratory quinone. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain 15C3T was 33.6 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 15C3T belonged to the genus Flavobacterium and was most closely related to Flavobacterium hercynium WB 4.2-33T (96.9 % sequence similarity). On the basis of phenotypic and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain 15C3T is considered to represent a novel species in the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium compostarboris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 15C3T ( = KACC 14224T  = JCM 16527T). Emended descriptions of F. hercynium , Flavobacterium resistens and Flavobacterium johnsoniae are also given.

A Gram-stain-negative, orange-pigmented and strictly aerobic bacterium, designated strain MJ115T, was isolated from seawater in Pohang, South Korea. Cells were non-motile rods and showed positive reactions for catalase and oxidase tests. Growth of strain MJ115T was observed at 4–35 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 6.0–7.0 (optimum, pH 6.5) and in the presence of 0–8.0 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2.0%). Strain MJ115T contained iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 1  ω9c, C17 : 0 2-OH, iso-C16 : 0 3-OH, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1  ω7c and/or C16 : 1  ω6c) as major cellular fatty acids and menaquinone-6 as the major respiratory quinone. Phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids and four unidentified lipids were detected as major polar lipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 40.7 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain MJ115T formed a phyletic lineage with Nonlabens marinus S1-08T, Nonlabens agnitus JC2678T and Nonlabens antarcticus AKS 622T within the genus Nonlabens . Strain MJ115T was also most closely related to N. marinus S1-08T, N. agnitus JC2678T and N. antarcticus AKS 622T with 96.5, 96.4 and 96.0 % 16S rRNA sequence similarities, respectively. Here it is proposed that strain MJ115T represents a new species of the genus Nonlabens , for which the name Nonlabens ponticola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MJ115T (=KCTC 72237T=NBRC 113963T). In addition, the comparison of the whole genome sequences and phenotypic features suggested that Nonlabens tegetincola and Nonlabens sediminis belong to the same species. Therefore, it is proposed that N. sediminis is reclassified as a later heterotypic synonym of N. tegetincola .

A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile, cream, long rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain ZL136T, was isolated from deep water of the South China Sea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that this strain belonged to the genus Roseivivax with highest sequence similarity to Roseivivax halodurans OCh 239T (97.0 %), followed by Roseivivax isoporae sw-2T (96.9 %). Growth occurred at 4–37 °C (optimum 32 °C), pH 6.0–10.0 (optimum 8.0) and in the presence of 0–12 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum 3–4 %) in marine broth 2216. Strain ZL136T did not produce bacteriochlorophyll a. The predominant fatty acids were C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c, C18 : 0, C16 : 0 and 11-methyl C18 : 1ω7c. The major polar lipids of ZL136T were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and an unidentified lipid. The major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain ZL136T was 67.0 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic analysis, strain ZL136T was classified as a representative of a novel species in the genus of Roseivivax , for which the name Roseivivax marinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is ZL136T ( = JCM 19386T = KCTC 32470T).

A Gram-stain-negative bacterium, designated XIN-1T, was isolated from a farmland river sludge sample in Suzhou, China. Cells of strain XIN-1T were strictly aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped. Strain XIN-1T grew optimally at pH 7.0 and 28 °C. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain XIN-1T was most closely related to Flavobacterium hauense BX12T (98.2 % sequence similarity), followed by Flavobacterium beibuense F44-8T (96.3 %). The major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-6 and the major polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The major fatty acids (>5 %) were summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), summed feature 4 (comprising iso-C17 : 1 I and/or anteiso-C17 : 1 B), iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain XIN-1T was 39.8 mol%. Strain XIN-1T showed low DNA–DNA relatedness with F. hauense BX12T (38.7±0.5 %). On the basis of genotypic and phenotypic data, strain XIN-1T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium suzhouense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is XIN-1T ( = CCTCC AB 2014200T = KCTC 42107T).

A Gram-stain-negative, halophilic bacterium, designated strain BH195T, was isolated from the sediment of the solar saltern pond located in Gomso, Republic of Korea. Strain BH195T was a strictly aerobic, non-motile rod, which grew at pH 3.5–10.5 (optimum, pH 7.5), at 4–55 °C (optimum, 30 °C) and at salinities of 0.5–11 % (w/v) NaCl [optimum, 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl]. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, indicated that strain BH195T belongs to the genus Idiomarina , showing the highest sequence similarity to Idiomarina salinarum ISL-52T (97.4 %), Idiomarina homiensis PO-M2T (96.8 %), Idiomarina aestuarii KYW314T (96.7 %), and Idiomarina tainanensis PIN1T (96.7 %). The major cellular fatty acids of strain BH195T were iso-C11 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C11 : 0. The DNA G+C content was 51.3 mol% and the major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone 8. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and an unknown phospholipid. DNA–DNA relatedness between strain BH195T and I. salinarum KCTC 12971T was 33 %. On the basis of this polyphasic analysis, strain BH195T represents a novel species of the genus Idiomarina for which the name Idiomarina halophila sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is BH195T ( = KACC 17610T = NCAIM B 02544T).

A strictly aerobic, light-yellow-coloured, stalked bacterium, designated strain ZFGT-14T, was isolated from the root of Geum aleppicum Jacq. collected from Taibai Mountain in Shaanxi province, north-west China, and was subjected to a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. This novel isolate grew at 7–33 °C (optimum 25–28 °C) and pH 6.0–10.0 (optimum pH 7.0–8.0). Flexirubin-type pigments were not produced. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped and motile with a single polar flagellum. The predominant respiratory quinone was Q-10. The major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 8 (comprising C18 : 1ω7c/C18 : 1ω6c), C16 : 0, C19 : 0 cyclo ω8c and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol and glycolipids. The DNA G+C content was 57.8 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain ZFGT-14T was most closely related to the genus Asticcacaulis and had low sequence similarity (95.0–95.9 %) with all species with validly published names within the genus Asticcacaulis . Based on the phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic data, strain ZFGT-14T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Asticcacaulis , for which the name Asticcacaulis endophyticus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is ZFGT-14T ( = CCTCC AB 2013012T = KCTC 32296T = LMG 27605T).

A Gram-staining-negative, yellow-pigmented, strictly aerobic bacterium, designated strain SC17T, was isolated from sediment of a tidal flat of Suncheon bay in South Korea. Cells were halotolerant, catalase- and oxidase-positive and non-motile rods. Growth of strain SC17T was observed at 5–40 °C (optimum, 25–30 °C), at pH 6.0–8.5 (optimum, pH 7.0) and in the presence of 1–8 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1–2 %). The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH), iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 1 G and anteiso-C15 : 0. The polar lipid content consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine and unidentified amino lipids and lipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 46.4 mol% and the only respiratory quinone detected was menaquinone-6 (MK-6). Phylogenetic inference based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain SC17T formed a distinct phyletic lineage within the family Flavobacteriaceae and was most closely related to members of the genera Gaetbulibacter and Tamlana with 95.0–95.8 % sequence similarity. On the basis of phenotypic and molecular features, strain SC17T represents a novel genus of the family Flavobacteriaceae , for which the name Aestuariibaculum suncheonense gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SC17T ( = KACC 16186T = JCM 17789T). Emended descriptions of the genera Gaetbulibacter and Tamlana are also proposed.

A novel Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, non-flagellated, strictly aerobic strain with gliding motility, designated XH134T, was isolated from surface seawater of the South Pacific Gyre (45° 58′ S 163° 11′ W) during the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 329. The major respiratory quinone of strain XH134T was MK-6. The dominant fatty acids of strain XH134T were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G, C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0 3-OH and 10-methyl C16 : 0 and/or iso-C17 : 1ω9c. The polar lipids of strain XH134T comprised phosphatidylethanolamine, one unknown aminolipid and three unknown polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain XH134T was 32.4 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the novel strain was related most closely to Aquimarina macrocephali JAMB N27T with 96.9 % sequence similarity. A number of phenotypic characteristics distinguished strain XH134T from described members of the genus Aquimarina . On the basis of combined phenotypic and phylogenetic analyses, strain XH134T represents a novel species of the genus Aquimarina , for which the name Aquimarina megaterium sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is XH134T ( = CGMCC 1.12186T = JCM 18215T).

A bacterial strain, designated YZGR15T, was isolated from the root of an annual halophyte Suaeda aralocaspica, collected from the southern edge of the Gurbantunggut desert, north-west PR China. Cells of the isolate were Gram-stain-positive, facultatively anaerobic, irregular rods. Growth occurred at 4–42 °C (optimum, 30–37 °C), at pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, pH 7.0–7.5) and in the presence of 0–9 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 2–5 %). Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain YZGR15T showed the highest sequence similarity to Sanguibacter keddieii (98.27 %), Sanguibacter antarcticus (98.20 %) and Sanguibacter inulinus (98.06 %). Results of genome analyses of strain YZGR15T indicated that the genome size was 3.16 Mb, with a genomic DNA G+C content of 71.9 mol%. Average nucleotide identity and digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between strain YZGR15Tand three type strains were in the range of 76.5–77.8 % and 20.0–22.2 %, respectively. Analysis of the cellular component of strain YZGR15T revealed that the primary fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0, C14 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0 and the polar lipids included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, three unidentified phospholipids and two unidentified glycolipids. The cell-wall characteristic amino acids were glutamic acid, alanine and an unknown amino acid. The whole-cell sugars for the strain were mannose, ribose, rhamnose, glucose and an unidentified sugar. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-9(H4). Based on the results of genomic, phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analyses, strain YZGR15T represents a novel species of the genus Sanguibacter , for which the name Sanguibacter suaedae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YZGR15T (=CGMCC 1.18691T=KCTC 49659T)

A novel Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, brick red-pigmented bacterium, designated R-22-1 c-1T, was isolated from water from Baiyang Lake, Hebei Province, PR China. The strain was able to grow at 20–30 °C (optimum, 30 °C) and pH 6–7 (optimum, pH 6) in Reasoner’s 2A medium. 16S rRNA gene sequence and phylogenetic analyses of R-22-1 c-1T revealed closest relationships to Rufibacter immobilis MCC P1T (97.8 %), Rufibacter sediminis H-1T (97.9 %) and Rufibacter glacialis MDT1-10-3T (97.0 %), with other species of the genus Rufibacter showing less than 97.0 % sequence similarity. The predominant polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminophospholipids and three unidentified lipids. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, C15 : 1  ω6c, C17 : 1  ω6c, anteiso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1  ω7c and/or C16 : 1  ω6c) and summed feature 4 (iso-C17 : 1I and/or anteiso-C17 : 1B). The respiratory quinone was MK-7. The draft genome of R-22-1 c-1T was 5.6 Mbp in size, with a G+C content of 50.2 mol%. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA–DNA hybridization relatedness values between strain R-22-1 c-1T and related type strains were R. immobilis MCC P1T (77.2 and 21.8 %), R. sediminis H-1T (81.6 and 21.4 %) and R. tibetensis 1351T (78.5 and 22.9 %). Based on these phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and genotypic results, strain R-22-1 c-1T represents a novel species in the genus Rufibacter , for which the name Rufibacter latericius sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is R-22-1 c-1T (=CGMCC 1.13570T=KCTC 62781T).
