A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, non-flagellated, non-gliding, aerobic bacterial strain, designated LPB0138T, was isolated from a marine spoon worm (Urechis unicinctus). The strain LPB0138T contains a circular chromosome of 3.43 Mb with a DNA G+C content of 30.4 mol%. The genome includes 2987 protein-coding genes and two copies of rRNA operons. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the isolate occurred within a clade containing only members of the family Flavobacteriaceae . The highest sequence similarity was observed with the genus Lutibacter (93.0–94.3 %), but the phylogenetic leaf of the new isolate did not belong to any of the genera known in the family Flavobacteriaceae . The low sequence similarity and the phylogenetic tree topology implied the novel generic status of the new isolate. The phenotypic properties of the strain LPB0138T also differentiated this isolate from its neighbour genera by showing a distinctive fatty acid composition, unique polar lipids profile, and low DNA G+C content. The LPB0138T strain contained menaquinone 6 as the isoprenoid quinone; iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 3-OH, and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH as the major fatty acids; and phosphatidylethanolamine, unidentified aminophospholipids, unidentified aminolipids, and unidentified lipids as the major polar lipids. Based on the polyphasic taxonomic data obtained, the LPB0138T strain is considered to represent a novel species in a novel genus of the family Flavobacteriaceae, for which the name Urechidicola croceus gen. nov., sp. nov. was proposed. The type strain is LPB0138T (=KACC 18889T;=JCM 31563T).

A Gram-stain-negative, light pink-coloured, rod-shaped, flagellated and facultative anaerobic bacterial strain, designated MT2928T, was isolated from deep-sea sediment collected from the Mariana Trench. Growth of strain MT2928T occurred optimally at 28 °C, pH 8.0–9.0 and in the presence of 1.0–2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain MT2928T belongs to the genus Pontivivens and has the highest sequence similarity to Pontivivens insulae GYSW-23T (96.6 %). Genomic analysis indicated that strain MT2928T contains a circular chromosome of 4 199 362 bp with G+C content of 67.2 mol%. The strain did not produce bacteriochlorophyll a, but produced carotenoid. The predominant respiratory quinone of MT2928T was ubiquinone-10. The polar lipids of MT2928T contained diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified lipids and two unidentified phospholipids. The major fatty acids of strain MT2928T contained summed feature 8 (C18 : 1  ω7c or/and C18 : 1  ω6c), C18 : 0 and summed feature 2 (iso-C16 : 1 I and/or C14 : 0 3-OH). On the basis of phylogenetic, physiological, biochemical and other phenotypic properties, strain MT2928T represents a novel species of the genus Pontivivens , and the name Pontivivens ytuae sp. nov. is proposed with the type species MT2928T (=MCCC 1K05575T=JCM 34320T).

A Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, aerobic, non-flagellated, non-gliding rod, designated YCS-9T, was isolated from seawater in the South Sea, South Korea. Strain YCS-9T grew optimally at 25 °C, at pH 7.0–8.0 and in the presence of 2 % (w/v) NaCl. In the neighbour-joining phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain YCS-9T fell within the family Flavobacteriaceae and formed a cluster with Fulvibacter tottoriensis MTT-39T with a bootstrap resampling value of 75.4 %. Strain YCS-9T showed 92.3 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to F. tottoriensis MTT-39T and 89.0–93.7 % sequence similarity to the other strains used in the phylogenetic analysis. Strain YCS-9T contained MK-6 as the only menaquinone and iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids were one unidentified lipid and one unidentified aminolipid. The DNA G+C content was 34.2 mol%. Strain YCS-9T could be differentiated from F. tottoriensis NBRC 102624T by differences in fatty acid composition, polar lipid profile and some phenotypic properties. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain YCS-9T represents a novel species in a new genus within the phylum Bacteroidetes , for which the name Pseudofulvibacter geojedonensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Pseudofulvibacter geojedonensis is YCS-9T ( = KCTC 23884T  = CCUG 62114T). An emended description of the genus Fulvibacter is also presented.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile, orange-pigmented, slightly halophilic, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain JAMH 0132T, was isolated from the trophosome of a tubeworm in Kagoshima Bay, Japan, and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. The novel strain grew optimally at 28–30 °C and with about 2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Chemotaxonomic analysis showed that Q-10 was the predominant respiratory quinone and that C18 : 1ω7c, C16 : 0 2-OH and C16 : 0 were the major fatty acids. Sphingoglycolipid, phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine were the major polar lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content was 60.1 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain JAMH 0132T belonged to the family Sphingomonadaceae , within the class Alphaproteobacteria . The novel strain appeared most closely related to Sphingopyxis baekryungensis SW-150T (95.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity) and showed less sequence similarity with representatives of the genera Blastomonas , Sphingomonas , Sphingosinicella and Novosphingobium (<94.8 %). In having no detectable polyamine, strain JAMH 0132T differed from members of all genera currently in the family Sphingomonadaceae . On the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain JAMH 0132T represents a novel species of a new genus in the family Sphingomonadaceae for which the name Parasphingopyxis lamellibrachiae gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Parasphingopyxis lamellibrachiae gen. nov., sp. nov. is JAMH 0132T ( = JCM 15549T  = NCIMB 14486T).

Gram-negative, rod-shaped, oxidase-negative, facultatively anaerobic, yellow–orange-pigmented and motile bacterial strains, designated 8N4T, 9N2 and 10N3, were isolated from flower nectar of Amygdalus communis (almond) and Citrus paradisi (grapefruit). The 16S rRNA gene sequences of the strains shared highest sequence similarity of 97.0 % with that of Phaseolibacter flectens ATCC 12775T and lower similarity with sequences from other type strains of genera of the Enterobacteriaceae . A polyphasic approach that included determination of phenotypic properties and phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA, gyrB, rpoB and atpD gene sequences supported the classification of strains 8N4T, 9N2 and 10N3 within a novel species in a novel genus in the family Enterobacteriaceae . Strain 8N4T, and the reference strains of the novel species, grew at 4–35 °C (optimum, 28–30 °C), with 0–5.0 % NaCl (optimum, 3 % NaCl) and with 0–60 % sucrose (optimum, 10–25 % sucrose). Their major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 0, C17 : 0 cyclo, C18 : 1ω7c and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH). The DNA G+C content of strain 8N4T was 46.8 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, the floral nectar isolates are classified within a novel species in a new genus in the family Enterobacteriaceae , for which the name Rosenbergiella nectarea gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Rosenbergiella nectarea is 8N4T ( = LMG 26121T = DSM 24150T).

A Gram-negative bacterium, designated DCY13T, was isolated from soil of a ginseng field in South Korea. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain DCY13T shared the highest sequence similarity (95.0 %) with Sediminibacterium salmoneum NBRC 103935T and 87.6–91.4 % sequence similarity with other members of the family Chitinophagaceae . Cells were non-spore-forming rods, catalase- and oxidase-positive, motile by gliding and facultatively anaerobic. The only respiratory quinone was menaquinone 7 (MK-7) and the major fatty acids were iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C15 : 1 G. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 47.5±1.0 mol%. In addition to phosphatidylethanolamine, the major polar lipids were two unidentified aminophospholipids, one unidentified aminolipid and three unidentified polar lipids. The major cell-wall sugars were ribose, xylose and galactose. It is proposed that strain DCY13T represents a novel species in the genus Sediminibacterium , for which the name Sediminibacterium ginsengisoli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DCY13T ( = KCTC 12833T  = JCM 15794T  = DSM 22335T). Emended descriptions of the genus Sediminibacterium and of Sediminibacterium salmoneum are also proposed.

A Gram-staining-negative, non-motile and orange-pigmented bacterium, designated strain HME6675T, was isolated from freshwater of a reservoir in Korea. The major fatty acids of strain HME6675T were iso-C15 : 0 (33.4 %) and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c; 31.3 %). The major respiratory quinone was MK-7. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid, one unidentified aminophospholipid and three unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HME6675T was 37.7 mol%. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HME6675T formed a lineage within the family Cytophagaceae and was related to Leadbetterella byssophila 4M15T (93.0 % sequence similarity), Fluviimonas pallidilutea TQQ6T (90.6 %) and Emticicia oligotrophica GPTSA100-15T (89.1 %). On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME6675T represents a novel genus and species of the family Cytophagaceae , for which the name Lacihabitans soyangensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Lacihabitans soyangensis is HME6675T ( = KCTC 23259T = CECT 7826T).

A novel pink-pigmented, facultatively methylotrophic strain, designated M6-76T, was isolated from glacial foreland soil near Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard Archipelago, Norway. Cells of strain M6-76T were rod-shaped (0.4–0.7×0.8–2.0 µm), Gram-stain-negative, aerobic and motile by a single polar flagellum. Growth occurred at 4–28 °C (optimum 18 °C) and at pH 5–8 (optimum pH 7). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain M6-76T belonged to the family Methylobacteriaceae . The 16S rRNA gene sequence of the novel strain showed 94.6 %, 94.0 % and 93.9 % sequence similarity to those of Methylobacterium salsuginis MRT, Methylobacterium organophilum ATCC 27886T and Microvirga subterranea FaiI4T, respectively. Cells could utilize methanol as the sole source of carbon and energy but not formate. The major respiratory quinone was Q-10. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine and two unknown polar lipids. The predominant cellular fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c), summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c) and C16 : 0. The DNA G+C content was 67 mol%. The polyphasic data presented in this study indicated that the isolate should be classified as representing a novel species of a new genus within the family Methylobacteriaceae . The name Psychroglaciecola arctica gen. nov., sp. nov. is therefore proposed for the isolate. The type strain of the type species is M6-76T ( = CCTCC AB 2013033T = KACC 17684T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, short rod-shaped, motile, brownish-coloured bacterium, termed strain LPB0137T, was isolated from a squid. Its cells could grow weakly on marine agar 2216 with 0.04 % 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC). Each cell of strain LPB0137T has a circular chromosome with a length of 2.87 Mb and 27.7 mol% DNA G+C content. The genome includes 2698 protein-coding genes and six rRNA operons. In 16S rRNA gene sequence trees, strain LPB0137T formed a robust monophyletic clade with Poseidonibacter antarcticus SM1702T with a sequence similarity of 98.3 %. However, the average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization values between the two type strains were low (83.9 and 28.1 %, respectively). The overall phenotypic and genomic features of strain LPB0137T supported its assignment to the genus Poseidonibacter . However, the relatively low gene and genome sequence similarity between this strain and other type strains of the genus Poseidonibacter and several enzymatic characteristics indicated the taxonomic novelty of the isolated strain as a new member of the genus Poseidonibacter . Therefore, based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics of LPB0137T, we proposed a novel species of the genus Poseidonibacter for it, with the name Poseidonibacter parvus sp. nov. The type strain of this new species is thus LPB0137T (=KACC 18888T=JCM 31548T).

A Gram-negative, non-motile, ovoid to rod-shaped bacterium, designated HDW-32T, was isolated from seawater of the Yellow Sea, Korea. Strain HDW-32T grew optimally at pH 7–8, at 30 °C and with 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain HDW-32T exhibited 95.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Nitratireductor basaltis J3T, 94.8 % sequence similarity with Ahrensia kielensis IAM 12618T and <94.5 % with other members of the family Phyllobacteriaceae . In the neighbour-joining, maximum-likelihood and maximum-parsimony trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, strain HDW-32T clustered with A. kielensis IAM 12618T. Strain HDW-32T contained Q-10 as the predominant ubiquinone and C18 : 1ω7c as the major fatty acid. Differences in polar lipids, DNA G+C content and other phenotypic properties distinguished strain HDW-32T from A. kielensis JCM 20689T. Strain HDW-32T could also be distinguished from representatives of the genera Nitratireductor and Hoeflea by differences in fatty acids and polar lipids. On the basis of phylogenetic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic data, strain HDW-32T represents a novel species belonging to a novel genus of the family Phyllobacteriaceae of the class Alphaproteobacteria , for which the name Pseudahrensia aquimaris gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the type species is HDW-32T ( = KCTC 23345T  = CCUG 60023T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated and rod-shaped or ovoid bacterial strain, designated RA1T, was isolated from faeces collected from Beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) in Yeosu aquarium, South Korea. Strain RA1T grew optimally at 25 °C, at pH 7.0–8.0 and in the presence of 2.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Neighbour-joining, maximum-likelihood and maximum-parsimony phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain RA1T joins the cluster comprising the type strains of three species of the genus Amphritea , with which it exhibited 95.8–96.0 % sequence similarity. Sequence similarities to the type strains of other recognized species were less than 94.3 %. Strain RA1T contained Q-8 as the predominant ubiquinone and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c), C18 : 1ω7c and C16 : 0 as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids of strain RA1T were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified lipids and one unidentified aminolipid. The DNA G+C content of strain RA1T was 47.4 mol%. The differential phenotypic properties, together with the phylogenetic distinctiveness, revealed that strain RA1T is separated from other species of the genus Amphritea . On the basis of the data presented, strain RA1T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Amphritea , for which the name Amphritea ceti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is RA1T ( = KCTC 42154T = NBRC 110551T).
