A novel actinobacterium, designated TRM68348T, was isolated from the silt collected from the Tailan River in Xinjiang Province, north-west China. The strain was aerobic and Gram-stain-positive. The aerial mycelium was densely straight or tortuous, with a few branches of hyphae and no spores. The whole-cell sugar pattern of strain TRM68348T consisted of ribose and glucose. The diagnostic diamino was ll-diaminopimelic acid. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannose and an unidentified phospholipid. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9 (H10), MK-9 (H6) and MK-9 (H2). The major fatty acids (>5 %) were iso-C14 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C16 : 0, C16 : 0 and summed feature 6. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 69.93 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain TRM68348T shared 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 98.14 % to the closest described species Streptomyces capitiformicae 1H-SSA4T. Strain TRM68348T had a relatively low DNA–DNA relatedness value with S. capitiformicae 1H-SSA4T as determined by calculating the average nucleotide identity value (92.78 %). Strain TRM68348T could also be differentiated from S. capitiformicae 1H-SSA4T based on morphological and physiological characteristics. On the basis of the evidence from this polyphasic study, the strain is concluded to represent a novel species of the genus Streptomyces , for which the name Streptomyces tailanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TRM68348T (=CCTCC AA 2018086T=KCTC 49274T).

A novel actinomycete strain, designated TRM 46012T, was isolated from sediment of Aiding Lake in Tulufan Basin (42° 64′ N 89° 26′ E), north-west China. The strain was aerobic and Gram-staining-positive with an optimum NaCl concentration for growth of 0–5 % (w/v). The isolate had sparse aerial mycelium and produced bud-shaped spores at the end of the aerial mycelium on ISP medium 4. The isolate contained ll-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid and ribose as the major whole-cell sugar. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, one unidentified phospholipid and three unidentified glycolipids. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H6), MK-9(H8) and MK-9(H4). The major fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The G+C content of the DNA was 74.4 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain TRM 46012T had 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 95.7 % with the most closely related species with a validly published name, Streptomyces cheonanensis , and it could be distinguished from all species in the genus Streptomyces by using the data from this polyphasic taxonomic study. On the basis of these data, strain TRM 46012T should be designated as a representative of a novel species of the genus Streptomyces , for which the name Streptomyces aidingensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TRM 46012T ( = CGMCC 4.5739T = NBRC 108211T).

A facultatively alkaliphilic actinomycete strain, designated EGI 80088T, was isolated from a saline-alkali soil sample from Xinjiang province, north-west China, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic characterization. Strain EGI 80088T formed fragmented aerial hyphae and short spore chains, and rod-like spores aggregated at maturity. Whole-cell hydrolysates of the isolate contained ll-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid, and glucosamine, mannose, galactose, glucose and rhamnose as the marker sugars. The major fatty acids identified (>5 %) were anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 4 (iso-C17 : 1I/anteiso-C17 : 1B), iso-C16 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. The predominant menaquinone was MK-9(H4). The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain EGI 80088T was 70.6 mol%. EGI 80088T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to its closest phylogenetic neighbour Haloactinopolyspora alba YIM 93246T (98.5 %). The DNA–DNA relatedness value of the strain EGI 80088T and H. alba YIM 93246T was 59.3±5.2 %. On the basis of morphological, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic characteristics and DNA–DNA hybridization data, strain EGI 80088T represents a novel species of the genus Haloactinopolyspora , for which the name Haloactinopolyspora alkaliphila sp. nov. (type strain EGI 80088T = BCRC 16946T = JCM 19128T) is proposed. The description of the genus Haloactinopolyspora has also been emended.

A novel filamentous actinomycete strain, designated TRM 46004T, was isolated from sediment of Aiding Lake in Tulufan Basin (42° 64′ N 89° 26′ E), north-west China. The isolate was characterized using a polyphasic approach. The isolate formed abundant aerial mycelium with few branches and vegetative mycelium, occasionally twisted and coiled; spherical sporangia containing one to several spherical spores developed at the ends of short sporangiophores on aerial mycelium. The G+C content of the DNA was 65.2 mol%. The isolate contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid and xylose, galactose and ribose as the major whole-cell sugars. The diagnostic phospholipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylglycerol. The predominant menaquinones were MK-9(H4), MK-9(H6) and MK-9(H10). The major fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain TRM 46004T formed a distinct lineage within the family Pseudonocardiaceae and showed 91.7–96.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with members of the family Pseudonocardiaceae . On the basis of the evidence from this polyphasic study, a novel genus and species, Longimycelium tulufanense gen. nov., sp. nov., are proposed. The type strain of Longimycelium tulufanense is TRM 46004T ( = CGMCC 4.5737T = NBRC 107726T).

A Gram-stain-positive, non-motile and short rod-shaped actinobacterium, designated strain LNNU 22110T, was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of the halophyte Suaeda aralocaspica (Bunge) Freitag and Schütze, which collected in Xinjiang, north-west China. Growth occurred at 10–45 °C, pH 6.0–10.0 and in the presence of 0–11 % NaCl (w/v). Based on the results of 16S rRNA gene sequence phylogenetic analyses, strain LNNU 22110T belonged to the genus Ruania and had 97.5 and 95.5 % sequence similarity to Ruania alba KCTC 19413T and Ruania albidiflava CGMCC 4.3142T, respectively. The digital DNA–DNA hybridization relatedness values between strain LNNU 22110T and R. alba KCTC 19413T and R. albidiflava CGMCC 4.3142T were 23.2 and 19.9 %, respectively. The highest average nucleotide identity value between strain LNNU 22110T and its closest related strain ( R. alba KCTC 19413T) was 80.2 %, much lower than the species delineation threshold of 95–96 %. The genome of strain LNNU 22110T was 4.4 Mb, with a genomic DNA G+C content of 68.4 mol%. The diagnostic diamino acids in the peptidoglycan layer of strain LNNU 22110T were lysine, alanine, glycine, glutamic acid and aspartic acid. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8(H4). The major fatty acid (>10 %) was anteiso-C15 : 0. The polar lipid profile of strain LNNU 22110T included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, diacylated phosphatidyl dimannoside, one unidentified glycolipid and two unidentified phospholipids. According to the phenotypic, phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic results, strain LNNU 22110T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Ruania , for which the name Ruania rhizosphaerae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is LNNU 22110T (=KCTC 39807T=CGMCC 1.17105T).

A novel actinobacterium, designated strain DW4-2T, was isolated from duckweed (Spirodela sp.) collected from an agricultural pond in Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand. The morphological, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic characteristics were consistent with its classification in the genus Streptomyces . Strain DW4-2T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values to Streptomyces qinglanensis DSM 42035T (98.5 %), S treptomyces smyrnaeus DSM 42105T (98.4 %) and Streptomyces oryzae S16-07T (98.4 %). Digital DNA–DNA hydridization and average nucleotide identity values between the genome sequences of strain DW4-2T with S. qinglanensis DSM 42035T (29.8 and 87.8 %), S. smyrnaeus DSM 42105T (33.1 and 89.0 %) and S. oryzae S16-07T (33.0 and 88.9 %) were below the thresholds of 70 and 95–96 % for prokaryotic conspecific assignation. Chemotaxonomic data revealed that strain DW4-2T possessed MK-9(H6) and MK-9(H8) as the predominant menaquinones. It contained ll -diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid and glucose, ribose and trace amount of madurose in whole-cell sugars. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, an unidentified aminolipid, an unidentified lipid and an unidentified phospholipid. The predominant cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C17 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0. The genomic DNA size of the strain DW4-2T was 7 310 765 bp with DNA G+C content 71.0 mol%. Genomic analysis of the genome indicated that the strain DW4-2T had the potential to produce bioactive compounds. On the basis of these genotypic and phenotypic data, it is supported that strain DW4-2T represents a novel species of the genus Streptomyces , for which the name Streptomyces spirodelae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is strain DW4-2T (=TBRC 13095T=NBRC 114803T).

A novel red-pigmented bacterial strain, designated WS 4628T, was isolated from a pharmaceutical clean room of a vaccine-producing company and was investigated in a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. The strain was Gram-stain-positive, strictly aerobic, motile, catalase-positive and produced spherical to slightly ellipsoidal endospores in rods. The genomic DNA G+C content was 44.1 mol%. The major fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0 and the predominant quinone was MK-6. The polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified phosphoglycolipid and an unidentified phospholipid. meso-diaminopimelic acid (type A1γ) was present in the cell-wall peptidoglycan and the major whole-cell sugars were glucose and ribose. The closest phylogenetic neighbours were identified as Bacillus badius ATCC 14574T (95.8 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Bacillus indicus Sd/3T (94.8 %), Jeotgalibacillus alimentarius YKJ-13T (94.8 %) and Bacillus cibi JG-30T (94.8 %). Phylogenetic, physiological, biochemical and morphological differences between strain WS 4628T and its closest relatives in the families Bacillaceae and Planococcaceae suggest that this strain represents a novel species in a new genus in the family Bacillaceae for which the name Domibacillus robiginosus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain of the type species is WS 4628T ( = DSM 25058T = LMG 26645T).

An actinomycete, strain D1T, was isolated from a freshwater sediment sample collected from the San Pablo river in the La Risueña community, Santiago de Cuba province, Cuba. The strain was identified as a member of the genus Nocardiopsis by means of a polyphasic taxonomic study. It produced a light yellow non-fragmented substrate mycelium, a white well-developed aerial mycelium and straight to flexuous hyphae. No specific spore chains were observed. Strain D1T contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, no diagnostic sugars, and MK-10(H2), MK-10(H4), MK-10 and MK-10(H6) as predominant menaquinones, but not phosphatidylcholine as diagnostic polar lipid of the genus Nocardiopsis . The predominant fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0, 10-methyl-C18 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. Strain D1T showed the highest degree of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Nocardiopsis synnematoformans DSM 44143T (99.8 %), Nocardiopsis dassonvillei subsp. albirubida NBRC 13392T (99.8 %) and Nocardiopsis dassonvillei subsp. dassonvillei DSM 43111T (99.6 %). A genomic OrthoANIu value between D1T and N. dassonvillei subsp. dassonvillei DSM 43111T of 97.63 % and a dDDH value of 78.9 % indicated that strain D1T should be classified in N. dassonvillei . However, phenotypic characteristics distinguished strain D1T from its nearest neighbour taxon. On basis of these results we propose to classify strain D1T (=LMG 30468T=CECT 30033T) as a representative of a novel subspecies of the genus Nocardiopsis , for which the name Nocardiopsis dassonvillei subsp. crassaminis subsp. nov. is proposed. In addition, the genomic distance between N. dassonvillei subsp. albirubida NBRC 13392T and N. dassonvillei subsp. dassonvillei DSM 43111T as determined through OrthoANIu (93.64 %) and dDDH (53.40 %), along with considerable phenotypic and chemotaxonomic differences reported in earlier studies, indicated that the classification of this taxon as Nocardiopsis alborubida Grund and Kroppenstedt 1990 is to be preferred over its classification as N. dassonvillei subsp. albirubida Evtushenko et al. 2000.

A Gram-stain-positive bacterium, strain RV15T, forming an extensively branched substrate mycelium and aerial hyphae that differentiate into spiral chains of spores, was isolated from a marine sponge Dysidea tupha collected from Rovinj (Croatia). Comparison of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain RV15T is a member of the genus Streptomyces with highest sequence similarity to the type strains of Streptomyces caeruleatus (98.8 %), Streptomyces cyaneochromogenes (98.6 %) and Streptomyces shaanxiensis (98.5 %). Sequence similarities to all other Streptomyces types strains were below 98.5 %. The multilocus sequence analysis-based evolutionary distance, the average nucleotide identity value and the genome-to-genome distance of strain RV15T and the type strain of S. caeruleatus were clearly below the species cut-off values. Strain RV15T exhibited a quinone system composed of the major menaquinones MK-9(H4), MK-9(H6) and MK-9(H2), typical for the genus Streptomyces . The polar lipid profile of strain RV15T consisted of the predominant compounds diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine, moderate amounts of phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, an unidentified lipid and an unidentified phospholipid. Major polyamines were spermine and spermidine. The diagnostic diaminoacid of the peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. The major fatty acids were iso C16 : 0, anteiso C17 : 1 ω9c and anteiso C17 : 0. The results of physiological and biochemical tests allowed further phenotypic differentiation of strain RV15T from its most-related species and hence clearly merits species status. We propose the name Streptomyces dysideae sp. nov. with the type strain RV15T (=DSM 42110T=LMG 27702T).

A novel actinomycete, designated strain CA15-2T, was isolated from a soil sample collected from the rhizosphere of tamarisk in the Lop Nor region, Xinjiang, China, and was characterized by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Optimal growth occurred at 37 °C and pH 7.5–8.0 and with 5 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain CA15-2T formed white to pale-yellow branched substrate mycelium without fragmentation and sparse aerial mycelium with wavelike curves. Whole-cell hydrolysates of the isolate contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid of the cell wall but no diagnostic sugars. The polar lipids comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylmethylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified glycolipid, one unidentified phospholipid and other unidentified lipids. MK-9(H8), MK-10(H8) and MK-10(H6) were the predominant menaquinones. The major fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0 and C16 : 0. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 69.6 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CA15-2T formed a distinct subclade in the family Nocardiopsaceae , with less than 95 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to all known members of the family Nocardiopsaceae . On the basis of the evidence from our polyphasic study, a novel genus, Allosalinactinospora gen. nov., is proposed, with the type species Allosalinactinospora lopnorensis gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain of Allosalinactinospora lopnorensis is strain CA15-2T ( = DSM 45697T = CGMCC 4.7074T).

Strain HNM0947T, representing a novel actinobacterium, was isolated from the coral Galaxea astreata collected from the coast of Wenchang, Hainan, China. The strain was found to have morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics consistent with the genus Nocardiopsis . The organism formed abundant fragmented substrate mycelia and aerial mycelia which differentiated into non-motile, rod-shaped spores. Whole-cell hydrolysates contained meso-diaminopimelic acid and no diagnostic sugars. The major menaquinones were MK-10(H8), MK-10(H6) and MK-10(H4). The major phospholipids were phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylinositol mannosides. The major fatty acids were iso-C16:0, anteiso-C17:0, C18:0, C18:0 10-methyl (TBSA) and anteiso-C15:0. The G+C content was 71.3 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HNM0947T belonged to the genus Nocardiopsis and shared highest sequence similarity to Nocardiopsis salina YIM 90010T (98.8%), Nocardiopsis xinjiangensis YIM 90004T(98.5%) and Nocardiopsis kunsanensis DSM 44524T (98.3%). The strain HNM0947T was distinguished from its closest type strain by low average nucleotide identity (90.8%) and dDDH values (60.4%) respectively. Based on genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics, it was concluded that strain HNM0947T represents a novel species of the genus Nocardiopsis whose name was proposed as Nocardiopsis coralli sp. nov. The type strain was HNM0947T (=CCTCC AA 2020015 T=KCTC 49525 T).
