We show that there is no superradiance for the Dirac field in the rotating BTZ black hole if the field vanishes at infinity. Then we outline the calculation of the expression for the renormalized energy–momentum tensor, the effective action as well as the heat kernel for the Dirac field for the BTZ black hole. Finally, we point out how to construct the Hartle–Hawking–Israel state for the real scalar field in the non-rotating BTZ black hole in two and three dimensions.

The principal focus of the present work concerns the critical behaviors of a class of three-dimensional (3D) black holes with a scalar field hair. Since the cosmological constant is viewed as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a volume, we examine such properties in terms of two parameters B and a. The latters are related to the scalar field and the angular momentum, respectively. In particular, we give the equation of state predicting a critical universal number depending on the (B, a) moduli space. In the vanishing limit of the B parameter, we recover the usual perfect gas behavior appearing in the case of the non-rotating BTZ black hole. We point out that in a generic region of the (B, a) moduli space, the model behaves like a Van der Waals system.

Using modular bootstrap we show the lightest primary fields of a unitary compact two-dimensional conformal field theory (with [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text]) has a conformal weight [Formula: see text]. This implies that the upper bound on the dimension of the lightest primary fields depends on their spin. In particular if the set of lightest primary fields includes extremal or near extremal states whose spin to dimension ratio [Formula: see text], the corresponding dimension is [Formula: see text]. From AdS/CFT correspondence, we obtain an upper bound on the spectrum of black hole in three-dimensional gravity. Our results show that if the first primary fields have large spin, the corresponding three-dimensional gravity has extremal or near extremal BTZ black hole.

For the three-dimensional BTZ black hole we consider a Selberg type zeta function. We indicate how special values of its logarithm correspond to certain thermodynamic quantities associated with the black hole.

We present an infinite class of one-parameter scalar field extensions to the Bañados, Teitelboim and Zanelli (BTZ) black hole in 2 + 1 dimensions. By virtue of the scalar charge, the thin-shell wormhole supported by a linear fluid at the throat becomes stable against linear perturbations. More interestingly, we provide an example of thin-shell wormhole which is strictly stable in the sense that it is confined in between two classically intransmissible potential barriers.

We compute the entanglement negativity for various pure and mixed state configurations in a bath coupled to an evaporating two dimensional non-extremal Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) black hole obtained through the partial dimensional reduction of a three dimensional BTZ black hole. Our results exactly reproduce the analogues of the Page curve for the entanglement negativity which were recently determined through diagrammatic technique developed in the context of random matrix theory.
