Purpose – Due to the limitation of acknowledgment, the complexity of software system and the interference of noises, this paper aims to solve the traditional problem: traditional software cost estimation methods face the challenge of poor and uncertain inputs. Design/methodology/approach – Under such circumstances, different cost estimation methods vary greatly on estimation accuracy and effectiveness. Therefore, it is crucial to perform evaluation and selection on estimation methods against a poor information database. This paper presents a grey rough set model by introducing grey system theory into rough set based analysis, aiming for a better choice of software cost estimation method on accuracy and effectiveness. Findings – The results are very encouraging in the sense of comparison among four machine learning techniques and thus indicate it an effective approach to evaluate software cost estimation method where insufficient information is provided. Practical implications – Based on the grey rough set model, the decision targets can be classified approximately. Furthermore, the grey of information and the limitation of cognition can be overcome during the use of the grey rough interval correlation cluster method. Originality/value – This paper proposed the grey rough set model combining grey system theory with rough set for software cost estimation method evaluation and selection.

The accuracy of software cost estimation is essential for software development management. By introducing and analyzing the estimation methods of software cost systematically, the paper discussed the necessary of considering the software maintenance stage and estimating the software cost by separating the procedure of software development into several small stages. Then a staged software cost estimation method based on COCOMO model was proposed. The use of the new software cost estimation method proposed by this paper not only contributes to the cost control of software project, but also effectively avoids the bias problem due to using by single cost estimation method so that the accuracy of cost estimation could be improved.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the trend and forecast the number of tourists from different regions of the world to Mauritius. Design/methodology/approach The paper adopts two grey system models, the even model GM(1,1) and the non-homogeneous discrete grey model (NDGM), to forecast the total number of international tourism to Mauritius and its structure from different regions tourist arrivals to Mauritius for the next three years. Grey system theory models were used to account for uncertainties and the dynamism of the tourism sector environment. The two models were applied as a comparison to obtain more reliable forecasting figures. Findings The results demonstrate that both of the grey system models can be successfully applied with high accuracy for Mauritian tourism prediction, and also the number of tourist arrivals to Mauritius shows a continued augmentation for the upcoming years. Practical implications Forecasting is meaningful since the Government of Mauritius, private companies or any concerned authority can adopt the forecasting methods exposed in this paper for the development of the tourism sector through managerial and economic decision making. Originality/value Mauritius is a charming travel destination. Through this paper, it can be seen that future tourism travel to Mauritius has been successfully predicted based on previous data. Moreover, it seems that the grey system theory models have not been utilised yet as forecasting tools for the tourism sector of Mauritius as opposed to other countries such as China and Taiwan.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present the terms of grey numbers and its operations. Design/methodology/approach The definitions of elementary terms about grey numbers and its operations are presented one by one. Findings The reader could know the basic explanation about the important terms about grey numbers and its operations from this paper. Practical implications Many of the colleagues thought that unified definitions of key terms would be beneficial for both the readers and the authors. Originality/value It is a fundamental work to standardise all the definitions of terms for a new discipline. It is also propitious to spread the universal principles of grey system theory.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose a second relational grade based on the general grey relational grade and analyze several of its properties.Design/methodology/approachGrey system theory. The paper proposes and studies second grey relational grade, establishes second grey relational formula, and studies several characteristics of second grey relational formula.FindingsProposing a second relational grade proved it could solve the problem of the parallelism partly and weaken relativity of space position.Research limitations/implicationsUntil now, the problem of the consistency could not be solved, nor could the problem of the effect which keeps the sequence the same.Practical implicationsThe precision of the grey forecasting model could be strengthened if used in the forecasting model.Originality/valueThe general relational grade only thinks over the relation between two sequences but does not involve the relation in one sequence. The second relational grade considers these two, so if the forecasting model is established with it, the model should be more exact.

Purpose Performance evaluation of airports or any other organisation is paramount for improving performance. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and compare the performance of the three international airports in Libya (MJI, MRA, and LAQ airports) by considering five aspects of performance. Design/methodology/approach The considered aspects are airport service quality, airport operations, airport economy, safety and security, and environmental. The paper uses the grey system theory to assess these airports by summarizing the opinions of experts. Findings The finding of this study provides directions of the evaluated airports to take the correct actions to improve overall performance. Originality/value No literature has been found till date is to evaluate and compare the performance of the international airports in Libya.

For a different item, you can purchase it. There are different costs to purchase that you can analysis the benefit and loses, even if on the software it has different approaches to analysis their wages, the developer company can get their analysis by the different methods.  There are a lot of software cost estimation methods are appearing in different years but still, those methods have their own drawback on making a correct effort and scheduling estimation, here in the paper Today there are different software cost estimation methods that the software company uses from the requirement to implementation phase. Corrected cost estimation supports us to complete the project on planned times and budgets. This paper is mainly presenting the current situations of cost estimation on software placed in Addis Abebas different software compony

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a supplier selection method using grey system theory for a steelmaking company in Libya. Design/methodology/approach In order to tackle incompleteness and imprecision of human’s judgments, grey numbers were used. This work uses a grey-based approach to represent decision makers’ comparison judgments and extent analysis method to select the best supplier. Therefore, an example of a selection problem of a steelmaking company in Libya was used to illustrate the proposed approach. Findings Supplier selection in a supply chain is a critical strategic decision for company’s success and has attracted much attention of both academic scholars and decision makers. The authors have found that the Grey model can play an important role in improving supplier selection strategy, especially when it is in a situation where complex sustainability environments (i.e. Libya) exist. Originality/value No literature has been found till date for selection of supplier using grey system theory in a steelmaking company in Libya. An attempt in this regard could enhance a decision-making technique for selecting the best suppliers for the selected case company.
