One of the most important and critical factors in software projects is the proper cost estimation. This activity, which has to be done prior to the beginning of a project in the initial stage, always encounters several challenges and problems. However, due to the high significance and impact of the proper cost estimation, several approaches and methods have been proposed regarding how to perform cost estimation, in which the analogy-based approach is one of the most popular ones. In recent years, many attempts have been made to employ suitable techniques and methods in this approach in order to improve estimation accuracy. However, achieving improved estimation accuracy in these techniques is still an appropriate research topic. To improve software development cost estimation, the current study has investigated the effect of the LEM algorithm on optimization of features weighting and proposed a new method as well. In this research, the effectiveness of this algorithm has been examined on two datasets, Desharnais and Maxwell. Then, MMRE, PRED (0.25), and MdMRE criteria have been used to evaluate and compare the proposed method against other evolutionary algorithms. Employing the proposed method showed considerable improvement in estimating software cost estimation.

Software cost estimation is the process of forecasting the effort needed to develop the software system. Global software engineering (GSE) highlights that software development knows no boundaries and majority of the software products and services are developed today by globally-distributed teams, projects, and companies. The problem of cost estimation gets more complex if the discussion is carried out in the context of GSE, which has its own issues. Temporal, cultural, and geographical distance creates communication and software process implementation issues. Traditional software process models such as capability maturity model (CMM) lacks the dynamism to accommodate the recent trends in GSE. The chapter introduces GSE and discusses various cost estimation techniques and different levels of CMM. A couple of GSE-based case studies having CMM-level projects from multiple organizations are studied to analyze the impacts of highly mature processes on effort, quality, and cycle time.

Software cost estimation is an essential and important endeavor for the effective implementation of applications development project concerning its price & time plus its direction concerning its monitoring of autonomous applications development jobs. Software cost estimation is the prediction of software development endeavor and applications development time necessary to create a software job. The scheduling is of scheduling Resources, Budget, Time and several equally Precise software cost estimation is regarded as a tricky job as the information concerning the application project to be designed in the time of its beginning and completion remains obscure, thus drives the investigators from both professors and business to research in the exact same. What's more, it's always preferable for any approximation version to be inclusive because precision in estimation versions mutually lies together using their inclusiveness. So software cost estimation procedure being predictive in character hence requires for inclusiveness that will consequently bring inside that the precision. Within this paper, we'll present many versions for software cost estimation according to variants from Artificial Neural Networks which were completed within the research study. One of those models relies on exact choice of drivers as input into an Artificial Neural Network. And others derive from hybrids of Artificial Neural Networks with distinct Meta-heuristic algorithms as utilization of meta-heuristics in forecast issues such as that of program cost estimation is becoming more popularity. Everyone these versions have been experimented with variety of valid data collections.

Risk analysis and cost estimation are two important aspects of project planning that can either make the way or break the way to a project’s success. At the same, both these tasks are difficult and painstaking, but whether someone likes it and not, the project’s success depends heavily on them. As documented by Fredric Brooks Junior in his legendry book “The Mythical Man-Month,” planning, scheduling, and estimation have been central to software engineering since its early days in the 1970s. Present communication presents a simulation-based approach to estimate the costing schedule of a software development project. The results show that simulation is expedient as well as efficient in terms of time, effort, and cost requirement and provides pragmatic results.
