Abstract This study aims to investigate the relationship between dynamic alignment of the spine and pelvis during gait and quality of life (QOL) in lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSS) patients. We evaluated QOL using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), trunk and hip muscle strength as physical function, static spinal alignment, and dynamic spinal/pelvic alignment during gait. The relationship between the ODI score and physical function or static and dynamic alignment were examined. A total of 30 preoperative patients with LSS were participated in this study. ODI score significantly correlated with trunk extension strength (r = -0.559, p = 0.002), hip extension strength (r = -0.473, p = 0.011), maximum flexion angle of spine during gait (r = -0.551, p = 0.002) and maximum anterior tilt angle of pelvis (r = 0.528, p = 0.004). Multiple regression analysis showed that trunk extension strength (standardized β; - 0.35), maximum spinal flexion angle (standardized β; - 0.51) and hip extension strength (standardized β; - 0.40) significantly affected the ODI score, with adjusted coefficient of determination of 0.62. The results of this study showed that the LSS patients with weak hip or trunk extensor muscles, a greater angle of pelvic tilt or a less spinal flexion during gait had a lower QOL.

This paper presents a novel alignment approach for imperfect speech and the corresponding transcription. The algorithm gets started with multi-stage sentence boundary detection in audio, followed by a dynamic programming based search, to find the optimal alignment and detect the mismatches at sentence level. Experiments show promising performance, compared to the traditional forced alignment approach. The proposed algorithm has already been applied in preparing multimedia content for an online English training platform.

To change the status of time-consuming and over-reliance on technicians in mechanical system alignment process, the ACP technology is presented. The mapping between alignment process parameters and dynamic parameters was established through contact theory to build the agent model for parts. While the second mapping between dynamic parameters and machine dynamic characteristics is calculated by dynamic simulation software to conduct computational experiments. Experimental data is analyzed in order to implement data mine, optimize the alignment process, guide technician alignment, modify the theory mapping and improve the alignment efficiency.

In this chapter the authors show, by using a case study, how it is possible to achieve the alignment between business and Information Technology (IT). It describes several phases of project development, from planning strategy, enterprise architecture, development of businesses supporting tools and keeping dynamic alignment between the business and the IT. The authors propose a framework, framed under an enterprise architecture that guarantees a high level of response to the applications development or configuration as improves its alignment to business by solving some limitations of traditional software development solutions namely: difficulty in gathering clients requirements, which should be supported by the applications; difficulty to connect the organisation processes used to answer the client, which must also be integrated in the applications and the difficulty to develop the applications that can follow the business cycle. To test the approach, this was applied to a real case study consisting in the configuration of an application that manages the relationship with the clients.
