Background: In modern electrical power distribution systems, Power Quality has become an important concern due to the escalating use of automatic, microprocessor and microcontroller based end user applications. Methods: In this paper, power quality improvement has done using Photovoltaic based Distribution Static Compensator (PV-DSTATCOM). Complete simulation modelling and control of Photovoltaic based Distribution Static Compensator have been provided in the presented paper. In this configuration, DSTATCOM is fed by solar photovoltaic array and PV module is also helpful to maintain the DC link voltage. The switching of PV-STATCOM is controlled by Unit template based control theory. Results: The performance of PV-DSTATCOM has been evaluated for Unity Power Factor (UPF) and AC Voltage Control (ACVC) modes. Here, for studying the power quality issues three-phase distribution system is considered and results have been verified through simulation based on MATLAB software. Conclusion: Different power quality issues and their improvement are studied and presented here for harmonic reduction, DC voltage regulation and power factor correction.

Grid connected Wind energy conversion system uses power Electronic converters hardly in fixed speed systems except for reactive power compensation. This Power Electronic converter causes major electrical losses and affects power quality of the system. The quality of the voltage and current is also affected by sensitive loads which are used widely in most of Automated Industries and Research laboratories. Disturbances in waveforms occurs which results in harmonics. To improve such power quality problem of the system DVR which is based on fuzzy logic technique is introduced. The system is tested for conventional technique and also with fuzzy logic. The performance is investigated through MATLAB/SIMULINK software. The simulation results confirm the superior performance of the proposed DVR based fuzzy logic technique than conventional technique. The proposed system reduces harmonics as well as mitigates voltage sag/swell.

The power quality problems can be defined as the difference between the quality of power supplied and the quality of power required. Recently a large interest has been focused on a power quality domain due to: disturbances caused by non-linear loads and Increase in number of electronic devices. Power quality measures the fitness of the electric power transmitted from generation to industrial, domestic and commercial consumers. At least 50% of power quality problems are of voltage quality type. Voltage sag is the serious power quality issues for the electric power industry and leads to the damage of sensitive equipments like, computers, programmable logic controller (PLC), adjustable speed drives (ADS). The prime goal of this paper is to investigate the performance of the Fuzzy Logic controller based DVR in reduction the power disturbances to restore the load voltage to the nominal value and reduce the THD to a permissible value which is 5% for the system less than 69Kv. The modeling and simulation of a power distribution system have been achieved using MATLABL/Simulink. Different faults conditions and power disturbances with linear and non-linear loads are created with the proposed system, which are initiated at a duration of 0.8 sec and kept till 0.95 sec.

In this paper, the authors have addressed the modeling and design of the BLDC Motor-Driven E-Rickshaw based on hybrid energy storage system for optimum power management using fuzzy logic. In Hybrid energy sources, solar power is used to charge a battery (primary source) that is effectively coupled to an ultra-capacitor (ancillary source) for peak demand supplies. A power-split control strategy is proposed to control the power supply by using the HESS Fuzzy Logic in different engine operating modes. Projected power layering improves the battery life cycle with the proper use of the Ultra-capacitor. A new renewable braking system (RBS) is proposed for HESS EV’s powered by a brushless DC (BLDC) engine. The electrical energy available during regenerative braking is stored in a supercapacitor battery. By providing a new switching algorithm, the DC link voltage is boosted to effectively transfer power to the HESS unit. The fuzzy logic technique is used as a braking force distribution system to ensure effective and smooth braking operations. Fuzzy logic-based HESS provides better performance in electric vehicles, such as highly efficient regenerative braking, deep discharge protection of the battery, and faster acceleration. Also, there is a quick comparison of E-rickshaw solar power with traditional E-rickshaw. The planned design model was simulated by MATLAB®/Simulink environment.
