This Chapter presents a comparative study between two current control techniques, namely, conventional Delta Modulator and novel Delta-Sigma Modulator. The use of Delta modulator in variable speed drives poses a problem of noise while converting analog signal in to digital form; to optimize Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) inverter waveforms on-line without any optimization process. But in the Delta-Sigma Modulator the noise varies. It can be successfully applied to over-sampling digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital data converters, switch mode power supplies and inverters It is easy to implement, smooth inverter operation and provides low harmonics at the inverter output. The comparative study between the above said current controllers has been verified by the MATLAB computer simulation in terms of the high frequency power spectra, average switching frequency, rms current error and total harmonic distortion of load current waveforms. The obtained theoretical results are validated with experimental platform based on TMS320F2812 digital signal processor for effectiveness of the study.

The concept of diversity has been widely used in ecological studies, although mainly for the biotic component (biodiversity). Regrettably, the effects of abiotic structures (e.g. soils) on the biotic components of ecosystems, landscapes and biomes are still a matter of discussion. We examined the similarity and differences in spatial and temporal patterns between biodiversity and pedodiversity. This comparative study was possible because of the increased availability of digital data on soils and other natural resources at various scales for pedodiversity analysis using the same theoretical concepts and tools applied by ecologists for biodiversity analyses. Remarkably, the spatial patterns of pedogeographic units detected by pedologists are similar to those reported by biologists for a plethora of ecosystems.

Objective. This paper assesses the availability and quality of death certificate data in Latin America and the feasibility of using these data to study place of death and associated factors. Methods. In this comparative study, we collected examples of current official death certificates and digital data files containing information about all deaths that occurred during 1 year in 19 Latin American countries. Data were collected from June 2019 to May 2020. The records for place of death and associated variables were studied. The criteria for data quality were completeness, number of ill-defined causes of death and timeliness. Results. All 19 countries provided copies of current official death certificates and 18 of these registered the place of death. Distinguishing among hospital or other health care institution, home and other was possible for all countries. Digital data files with death certificate data were available from 12 countries and 1 region. Three countries had data considered to be of high quality and seven had data considered to be of medium quality. Categories for place of death and most of the predetermined factors possibly associated with place of death were included in the data files. Conclusions. The quality of data sets was rated medium to high in 10 countries. Hence, death certificate data make it feasible to conduct an international comparative study on place of death and the associated factors in Latin America.

Introducing watermarks can be useful to safeguard copyright. In this review an effort is made to explore various aspects of watermarking, algorithms used, and to carry out a comparative study of these techniques based on their classifications.

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has recently been introduced as a promising tool for analyzing surface atomic structure. We have used STM for its extremely high resolution (especially the direction normal to surfaces) and its ability for imaging in ambient atmosphere. We have examined surfaces of metals, semiconductors, and molecules deposited on these materials to achieve atomic resolution in favorable cases.When the high resolution capability is coupled with digital data acquisition, it is simple to get quantitative information on surface texture. This is illustrated for the measurement of surface roughness of evaporated gold films as a function of deposition temperature and annealing time in Figure 1. These results show a clear trend for which the roughness, as well as the experimental deviance of the roughness is found to be minimal for evaporation at 300°C. It is also possible to contrast different measures of roughness.

Convergent-beam electron diffraction (CBED) patterns contain an immense amount of information relating to the structure of the material from which they are obtained. The analysis of these patterns has progressed to the point that under appropriate, well specified conditions, the intensity variation within the CBED discs may be understood in a quantitative sense. Rossouw et al for example, have produced numerical simulations of zone-axis CBED patterns which show remarkable agreement with experimental patterns. Spence and co-workers have obtained the structure factor parameters for lowindex reflections using the intensity variation in 2-beam CBED patterns. Both of these examples involve the use of digital data. Perhaps the most frequent use for quantitative CBED analysis is the thickness determination described by Kelly et al. This analysis has been implemented in a variety of different ways; from real-time, in-situ analysis using the microscope controls, to measurements of photographic prints with a ruler, to automated processing of digitally acquired images. The potential advantages of this latter process will be presented.
