In order to study the nature of changes in inventories and methods of operative management experimental studies were made. The studies were conducted by field observations of the work of machines in opera-tions: roll-packaging (one ЛП-19), delimbing (two ЛП-33A), skidding (two ЛП-18, one ЛТ-154) and the change in inventory levels between adjacent operations in conditions of the Kirov and the Bryansk re-gions. Statistical data processing was carried out by methods of mathematical statistics. Analysis of the data showed that to find the number of the machine so that the volume of their production at all opera-tions was the same is almost impossible.
