It is commonly known that firefighting is very expensive solution; therefore it isn’t useless to study it by the criteria of efficiency. But the meaning of efficiency for fire managers can be different from the meaning of efficiency for economists. From an economic viewpoint, it is stricter than from a technical view. Method: this research used geometric aspects of the fire spread created rectangular and concentric circles models and used basic mathematic calculations and logical conclusions. Results and discussion: The rectangular model shows the criteria of economic efficiency of firefighting. Moreover, the results from rectangular model can be transferred also to the section of concentric circles model. Based on the concentric circle model we can define both the economic efficiency of fighting forest fire and minimal criteria of successful suppression expressed by the elementary information we have regarding the actual fire.

Acutely ill patients presenting with conditions such as sepsis, trauma, and congestive heart failure require judicious resuscitation in order to achieve and maintain optimal circulating blood volume. Increasingly, emergency and critical care physicians are using portable ultrasound to approximate the temporal changes of the anterior–posterior (AP)-diameter of the inferior vena cava (IVC) in order to guide fluid administration or removal. This paper proposes semi-automatic active ellipse and rectangle algorithms capable of improved and quantified measurement of the AP-diameter. The proposed algorithms are compared to manual measurement and a previously published active circle model. Results demonstrate that the rectangle model outperforms both active circle and ellipse irrespective of IVC shape and closely approximates tedious expert assessment.

There is a lack of research examining the factors which promote or hinder successful small group clinical practicum reflection seminars. The aim of this study was to explore key elements of successful small group reflection. Narrative inquiry was used as methodology. Three students consented to voluntarily participate in this study by learning on their experiences – both successful and unsuccessful – during their clinical reflection seminars. A 3-circle model was presented as a collective narrative. The Support Circle represents a safe and supportive environment where the reflection seminar is held. The Owner Circle represents the students’ ownership in a reflection seminar. The Service Circle represents the educators’ professional teaching services. To conclude, elements of a successful small group reflection included a safe leaning environment, a student-centered approach, and professional educator support. Within a safe learning environment, a successful small group reflection seminar should be owned by students and facilitated by a professional educator.
