This paper analyses the attitude measured model and presents the attitude determination algorithm of space TT&C ship (space tracking, telemetry, and command ship) based on single star sensor. Considering lower precision of rolling angel for single star sensor, we proposed an algorithm by integrating attitude determination and redundancy measure to obtain high precision ship attitude data. Aiming at the circumstance of space TT&C ship, the factors that influence the precision of attitude measured data such as the number of star, atmosphere refraction correct and installation elevation are analyzed, which this can provide valuable references to the engineering design for star sensor used on space TT&C ship.

We will design an extended interacting multiple models adaptive estimator (EIMMAE) for attitude determination of a stereoimagery satellite. This algorithm is based on interacting multiple models (IMM) extended kalman filters (EKF) using star sensor and gyroscope data. In this method, the motion of satellite during stereoimaging manoeuvres is partitioned into two different modes: “manoeuvring motion” mode and “uniform motion” mode. The proposed algorithm will select the suitable Kalman filter structure to estimate gyro errors accurately in order to maintain the peak attitude estimation error less enough at the beginning of manoeuvres while the satellite is in “manoeuvring motion” mode and then will select the suitable star sensor measurement noise level at the end of manoeuvres while the satellite is in “uniform motion” mode to reduce attitude estimation errors. It will be shown that using the proposed algorithm, the attitude estimation accuracy of stereoimagery satellite will be increased considerably. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm will be examined and compared with the previous proposed methods through numerical simulations.

The existence of multiple solutions to an attitude determination problem impacts the design of estimation schemes, potentially increasing the errors by a significant value. It is therefore essential to identify such cases in any attitude problem. In this paper, the cases where multiple attitudes satisfy all constraints of a three-vehicle heterogeneous formation are identified. In the formation considered herein, the vehicles measure inertial references and relative line-of-sight vectors. Nonetheless, the line of sight between two elements of the formation is restricted, and these elements are denoted as deputies. The attitude determination problem is characterized relative to the number of solutions associated with each configuration of the formation. There are degenerate and ambiguous configurations that result in infinite or exactly two solutions, respectively. Otherwise, the problem has a unique solution. The degenerate configurations require some collinearity between independent measurements, whereas the ambiguous configurations result from symmetries in the formation measurements. The conditions which define all such configurations are determined in this work. Furthermore, the ambiguous subset of configurations is geometrically interpreted resorting to the planes defined by specific measurements. This subset is also shown to be a zero-measure subset of all possible configurations. Finally, a maneuver is simulated to illustrate and validate the conclusions. As a result of this analysis, it is concluded that, in general, the problem has one attitude solution. Nonetheless, there are configurations with two or infinite solutions, which are identified in this work.

A star sensor is a high-precision satellite attitude measurement device. Since its observation information has only two-dimensional direction vectors, when a star sensor is used for attitude determination the dimension of the observation information is less than the number of attitude angles determined, so mainstream algorithms usually only guarantee the accuracy of the pitch angle and the roll angle. In view of the lack of depth information in the observation's imaging geometric condition, this article proposes a spinor-based attitude determination model, which describes a straight line passing through two stars with the spinor and maps the depth information of the straight line with the pitch, to establish an imaging geometry model of the spinor coplanar condition. Experiments show that the yaw-angle attitude accuracy of the method is an order of magnitude better than that of mainstream algorithms, and the accuracy of the three attitude angles reaches the arc-second level.

The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment Follow-On (GRACE-FO), launched in May 2018, provides invaluable information about mass change in the Earth system, continuing the legacy of GRACE. Fundamental requirements for successful mass change recovery are precise orbit determination and inter-satellite ranging, determination of the relative clock alignment of the ultra-stable oscillators (USOs), precise attitude determination, and accelerometry. NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory is the official Level-1 data processing and analysis center, and is currently processing software version 04. Here we present analysis of the aforementioned GRACE-FO sensor data, as well a preview of an upcoming GRACE reprocessing, and a discussion of measurement performance.
