Ridership forecast of urban rail transport is one of the important bases for urban rail transport network planning, design, construction and operation. MAS-based ridership forecast system was designed and the architecture was proposed. The traffic generation forecast analysis was made from the three aspects of overall size forecast, resident population forecast and floating population forecast. The results showed that the system had the excellence of satisfying the randomness, non-linear and non-deterministic case for the strong adaptability, robustness and flexibility.

The supports of a overhead wiring used in transport take up substantial loads both because of wires and constructions holding them and wind, dynamic and other extraordinary impacts. In case of using single-member piles a question about their stability appears. For this reason different sleepers constructions are used. In order to improve the bearing capacity of horizontally loaded single pile supports of the contact systems used in urban, road and rail transport, power lines, etc.., it is recommended to use sleepers as horizontally laid under the ground in the depth of support beams. The calculation methods for different support sleepers of different lengths and cross sections are not well investigated. The proposed calculation method allows determining the carrying capacity of horizontally loaded bearings with soil pieces of different structural dimensions and their location in the soil, which allows choosing the best option for cost and material consumption. The calculations offered by the authors prove the efficiency of sleepers use in order to increase the bearing capacity of horizontally loaded piles and the possibility to chose their size.

The trains on Passenger Dedicated Lines have higher speed, less kinds of train types and less stops than that on existing lines, so the line carrying capacity on PDL can be calculated based on the stops adjustment of the trains reasonably. Based on the traditional calculation method of deduction coefficient, it makes the line through capacity has the same times and mode of stops as the deduction foundation, and get the final capacity by stops adjustment. Combining with the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, it calculates the line through capacity in different condition respectively. It proves the method of line capacity calculation is available in the reality.

Urban railway transport that connects suburbs and city areas is characterized by uneven temporal and spatial distribution in terms of passenger flow and underutilized carrying capacity. This paper aims to develop methodologies to measure the carrying capacity of the urban railway by introducing a concept of the express-slow mode. We first explore factors influencing the carrying capacity under the express-slow mode and the interactive relationships among these factors. Then we establish seven different scenarios to measure the carrying capacity by considering the ratio of the number of the express trains and the slow trains, the station where overtaking takes place, and the number of overtaking maneuvers. Taking Shanghai Metro Line 16 as an empirical study, the proposed methods to measure the carrying capacity under different express-slow mode are proved to be valid. This paper contributes to the literature by remodifying the traditional methods to measure the carrying capacity when different express-slow modes are applied to improve the carrying capacity of the suburban railway.
