The effect of introducing ramp with a cylindrical slot hole on the film cooling effectiveness has been investigated experimentally and numerically. The film cooling effectiveness measurements are obtained experimentally. A test study was performed at a single mainstream with Reynolds number 76600 at three different coolant to mainstream blowing ratios 1.5, 2, and 3. Numerical simulation is introduced to primarily estimate the best ramp configurations and to predict the behavior of the transport phenomena in the region linked closely to the interaction between the coolant air injection and the hot air mainstram flow. The results showed that using ramps with trench cylindrical holes would enhanced the overall film cooling effectiveness by 83.33% compared with baseline model at blowing ratio of 1.5, also  the best overall flim cooling effectevness was obtained at blowing ratio of 2 while it is reduced at blowing ratio of 3.

The interrelationship between mixing characteristics and tracer response curves in activated sludge tanks is explained. In some cases the return sludge cycle has a strong influence on the tracer response curves. Results from tracer tests in the field are hard to interpret because the tracer in the return sludge interferes with the initial tracer. Therefore a special evaluation procedure has to be applied. The paper closes with results from a field tracer test study.

AbstractSolute transport through the clay liner is a significant process in many waste landfills or unmanaged landfills. At present, researchers mainly focus on the test study about semi-membrane property of clay material, however, the influence of chemical osmosis caused by membrane effect on solute transport and fluid velocity is insufficient. In this investigation, based on the classical advection-diffusion equation, a one-dimensional solute transport model for low-permeable clay material has been proposed, in which the coupled fluid velocity related with hydraulic gradient and concentration gradient is introduced, and the semi-membrane effect is embodied in the diffusion mechanism. The influence of chemical osmosis on fluid velocity and solute transport has been analyzed using COMSOL Multiphysics software. The simulated results show that chemical osmosis has a significant retarded action on fluid velocity and pollutant transport. The proposed model can effectively reveal the change in process of coupled fluid velocity under dual gradient and solute transport, which can provide a theoretical guidance for similar fluid movement in engineering.
