This paper aims to explore how an Environmental Management System (EMS) based on ISO 14001would assist to enhance the performance of a Food Manufacturing Company. The research objectives were to assess the current environmental aspects and related impact and define mitigation measures to minimize such aspects while focusing on the applicable legislative requirements for the industry and the existingmitigation measures. Different types of waste generatedduringtheprocesses were identified basedonUnitedNationsEnvironmentalPlan(UNEP) cleaner production methodology and baseline data related to waste generation were analysed using Pareto charts. An Environmental Aspect Impact Register was prepared for each division to identify environmental hazards based on risk assessment criteria given in ISO 31010 Standard and the results compared before and after risk levels using the T- test.Analysis of the environmental aspect impact register results concluded that implemented mitigation measures were effective on particular causes at 95% confidence level and adopting Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in this company had made apositive impact on the identified performance indicators including environmental performance indicators and financial indicators. It further recognized that there was more positive impact on water saving as the quantity of water used in the manufacturing processes had already reduced.

Abstract This paper provides a general approach to explore an appropriateness of business excellence models (BEMs) in Czech environment and investigates whether there is a specific approach to the adoption of best management practices in organizations embedded in the EFQM Excellence Model including as a part of national quality awards (NQAs) and evaluate impact on their key performance indicators. The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of the BEMs approach in the Czech Republic and found the relevance with the issues of resulting from the implementation of the EFQM model and selected performance indicators. As an example was involved the Czech companies awarded in NQAs in the area of excellence between 2010 and 2016. Based on a reflection of the current situation, there is still discussion about the implications for the implementation of the EFQM Excellence Model on the performance indicators. Using a qualitative methodology, based on case studies, we conducted a detailed analysis of key performance indicators before and after of the adoption of the EFQM Excellence Model, as well the company's current state of maturity. This study is based on information gathered through an extensive literature review using print media, research databases, and we also employed the available reporting for awarded companies. We systemized the variables of business excellence with the higher impact on organizational performance. The main findings of this study are in accordance with other studies carried out across Europe, namely the fact that the internal motivations are the key factor for the implementation of the EFQM Excellence Model, support of involvement from NQAs, the key role is in willingness of top managers (or owners) and methodological helpful is an implementation of ISO 9001 certification. On the basis of selected performance indicators, the positive development of the companies was demonstrated. This study contributes to the management literature on best practices, by highlighting a consistent trend in the use of the EFQM Excellence model, and is expected to help in the development and broadening of the excellence approach in the business environment.

Organizations of all kinds are increasingly forced to develop an environmental conflict strategy. Otherwise, in the case of environmental conflicts an organization may become subject to the rule "if you don’t manage issues, issues will manage you" (Health and Nelson, 1986). Organizations in this context may be a companies, corporations, firms, enterprises, authorities, or institutions, or part or combination thereof, whether incorporated or not, public or private, that have their own functions and administrations (ISO 14001, 1996). Environmental management is an integral part of an organization’s overall management. With the regard to the implementation of an environmental management system, according to the ISO standard 14001, organizations should establish and maintain procedures for internal and external communications. Environmental reporting is an essential contribution towards the proactive communication of an organization with their stakeholders.

We examine why firms voluntarily implement environmental management systems. Employing the ISO 14001 management system and using firm-level data for the Czech Republic, we find that environmental management systems are typically adopted by large firms and by those firms that initially pollute the environment more. These systems are more commonly implemented by firms operating in service industries. On the other hand, we find little support that the adoption of environmental management systems is influenced by the firm’s financial performance and labor costs.

This paper discusses the assessment and compari-son of the life cycle energy impacts of paper-based and electronic environmental reports in the Japanese automotive industry. By January 2007, there were 129 031 ISO 14001 certified organisa-tions and an additional 5389 certified to the European eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS). Energy use and the environmental bur-dens of environmental reporting by these compa-nies, has grown and can no longer be ignored. Electronic systems are often portrayed as being more environmentally beneficial than traditional ones, for environmental reporting. However there are no known assessment methodologies that address this subject. This paper therefore creates a framework for analysing the two systems. Energy consumption models are developed within a life cycle assessment (LCA) framework and applied to the traditional and electronic systems respectively. A postal system model is developed for energy con-sumption in traditional mail distribution in Japan under six different scenarios. Data gaps in the Japanese automotive industry are compensated for by the use of justified assumption and sensitivity analysis of the variables concerned. Simulation results are analysed and some decision issues deci-phered. A comparative analysis of electronic and traditional environmental reports identifies the nec-essary preconditions for reducing environmental burdens of the overall environmental management system (EMS).
