A C*-algebra A is said to be approximately finite dimensional (AF) if it is the inductive limit of a sequence of finite dimensional C*-algebras(see [2], [5]). It is said to be nuclear if, for each C*-algebra B, there is a unique C*-norm on the *-algebraic tensor product A ⊗B [11]. Since finite dimensional C*-algebras are nuclear, and inductive limits of nuclear C*-algebras are nuclear [16];,every AF C*-algebra is nuclear. The family of nuclear C*-algebras is a large and well-behaved class (see [12]). The AF C*-algebras for a particularly tractable sub-class which has been completely classified in terms of the invariant K0 [7], [5].

AbstractExamples are constructed of stably finite, imitai, separable C* -algebras A of real rank zero such that the partially ordered abelian groups K0(A) do not satisfy the Riesz decomposition property. This contrasts with the result of Zhang that projections in C* -algebras of real rank zero satisfy Riesz decomposition. The construction method also produces a stably finite, unital, separable C* -algebra of real rank zero which has the same K-theory as an approximately finite dimensional C*-algebra, but is not itself approximately finite dimensional.

A geometrical formulation of estimation theory for finite-dimensional C∗-algebras is presented. This formulation allows to deal with the classical and quantum case in a single, unifying mathematical framework. The derivation of the Cramer–Rao and Helstrom bounds for parametric statistical models with discrete and finite outcome spaces is presented.

AbstractWe give an explicit construction of a continuous trace C*algebra with prescribed Dixmier-Douady class, and with only finite-dimensional irreducible representations. These algebras often have non-trivial automorphisms, and we show how a recent description of the outer automorphism group of a stable continuous trace C*algebra follows easily from our main result. Since our motivation came from work on a new notion of central separable algebras, we explore the connections between this purely algebraic subject and C*a1gebras.

Let A, B be separable simple unital tracially AF C*-algebras. Assuming that A is exact and satisfies the Universal Coefficient Theorem (UCT) in KK-theory, we prove the existence, and uniqueness modulo approximately inner automorphisms, of nuclear *-homomorphisms from A to B with prescribed K-theory data. This implies the AF-embeddability of separable exact residually finite-dimensional C*-algebras satisfying the UCT and reproves Huaxin Lin's theorem on the classification of nuclear tracially AF C*-algebras.

AbstractLet A and B be arbitrary C*-algebras, we prove that the existence of a Hilbert A–B-bimodule of finite index ensures that the WEP, QWEP, and LLP along with other finite-dimensional approximation properties such as CBAP and (S)OAP are shared by A and B. For this, we first study the stability of the WEP, QWEP, and LLP under Morita equivalence of C*-algebras. We present examples of Hilbert A–B-bimodules, which are not of finite index, while such properties are shared between A and B. To this end, we study twisted crossed products by amenable discrete groups.
