AbstractIn this paper we study properties of the Laplace approximation of the posterior distribution arising in nonlinear Bayesian inverse problems. Our work is motivated by Schillings et al. (Numer Math 145:915–971, 2020. 10.1007/s00211-020-01131-1), where it is shown that in such a setting the Laplace approximation error in Hellinger distance converges to zero in the order of the noise level. Here, we prove novel error estimates for a given noise level that also quantify the effect due to the nonlinearity of the forward mapping and the dimension of the problem. In particular, we are interested in settings in which a linear forward mapping is perturbed by a small nonlinear mapping. Our results indicate that in this case, the Laplace approximation error is of the size of the perturbation. The paper provides insight into Bayesian inference in nonlinear inverse problems, where linearization of the forward mapping has suitable approximation properties.

Abstractthat fix the function $e^{-2x} $ e − 2 x for $x\geq 0 $ x ≥ 0 . Then, we provide the approximation properties of these newly defined operators for different types of function spaces. In addition, we focus on the rate of convergence utilizing appropriate moduli of continuity. Then, we provide the Voronovskaya-type theorem for these new operators. Finally, in order to validate our theoretical results, we provide some numerical experiments that are produced by a MATLAB complier.

Abstract In this study, we focus on the extension of the trigonometric F m-transform technique for functions with one-variable in order to improve its approximation properties at the end points of [a,b] and then generalize the extended trigonometric Fm -transform technique to functions with more variables. The approximation and convergence properties of the direct and inverse multi-variable extended trigonometric Fm -transforms are discussed. The applicability of multi-variable trigonometric F m -transforms to approximate multi-variable functions are illustrated by some examples. Moreover, some direct formulas for the multi-variable extended trigonometric Fm -transforms of partial derivatives of multi-variable functions are obtained and they are applied to solving the Cauchy problem of the transport equation. Also, the application of multi-variable extended trigonometric Fm -transforms for image compression is described. Some examples for the validity of the obtained results about the partial differential equations and image compression are given. The results are compared with some existence ones in the literature.

The quantitative Voronovskaja and Gr<inline-formula><tex-math id="M4">\begin{document}$ \ddot{u} $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>ss Voronovskaja type theorems are also established. In this article, we introduce generalized q−Sz´asz-Mirakjan operators and study their approximation properties. Based on the Voronovskaja’s theorem, we obtain quantitative estimates for these operators.

In 2010, Long and Zeng introduced a new generalization of the Bernstein polynomials that depends on a parameter  and called -Bernstein polynomials. After that, in 2018, Lain and Zhou studied the uniform convergence for these -polynomials and obtained a Voronovaskaja-type asymptotic formula in ordinary approximation. This paper studies the convergence theorem and gives two Voronovaskaja-type asymptotic formulas of the sequence of -Bernstein polynomials in both ordinary and simultaneous approximations. For this purpose, we discuss the possibility of finding the recurrence relations of the -th order moment for these polynomials and evaluate the values of -Bernstein for the functions ,  is a non-negative integer
