An increase in the integration of renewable energy generation worldwide brings along some challenges to energy systems. Energy systems need to be regulated following grid codes for the grid stability and efficiency of renewable energy utilization. The main problems that are on the active side can be caused by excessive power generation or unregulated energy generation, such as a partially cloudy day. The main problems on the load side can be caused by excessive or unregulated energy demand or nonlinear loads which deteriorate the power quality of the energy networks. This study focuses on the energy generation side as active power control. In this study, the benefits of supercapacitor use in a hybrid storage system are investigated and analyzed. A hybrid system in which photovoltaic powered and stored the energy in battery and supercapacitor are proposed in this study to solving the main problems in two sides. The supercapacitor model, photovoltaic model, and the proposed hybrid system are designed in MATLAB/Simulink for 6 kW rated power. Also, a new topology is proposed to increase the energy storage with supercapacitors for a passive storage system. The instantaneous peak currents energy is aimed to store in supercapacitors temporarily with this topology. The main advantages of this topology are voltage stabilization in two sides by the supercapacitors and a limitation of the battery load, which directly results in longer battery life and decreases the system cost. The simulation results are investigated for this topology.

Utilization of new technologies and people lifestyle has greatly affected the world’s electricity market. This demands to design innovative renewable energy systems for efficient use of green energy. In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, electricity from traditional energy supplies has become particularly harmful for the world. To decrease the reliance on fossil fuels, it is need of time to enhance the renewable energy integration in the conventional energy systems. Renewable DGs integration in existing energy systems is not a simple task. To overcome challenges caused by enhanced penetration of renewable energy systems in existing networks, adaptation of smart techniques is essential. DGs Optimal size and selection of their suitable location for integration is crucial for cost effective power delivery to the consumers without compromising the quality of power. This paper presents impartial performance management by optimal network reconfiguration in parallel with renewable DGs and selecting suitable size for reducing active power losses, pollutant gas emissions and costs of annual operation. For analysis of active power losses, Fuzzy and SPEA2 based algorithms are used in MATLAB with IEEE BUS14 acting as load bus. While the cost of power generation and pollutant gases emissions are estimated using HOMER Pro software.

Solar PV may cause power congestion to occur in a transmission line when there is high solar irradiance that causing solar PV to generate more power flow than demanded power flow. Transmission line congestion that can be made worst by adding extra power generating farm such as centralized PV farm of renewable energy which helps to deliver customers with the demand or load required. The power generated coming from solar PV is depending on the weather and can definitely worsen the flow in transmission line due to the power captured. In this case, the high solar irradiance can affect the power generated from solar PV and will cause power congestion when power generated is higher than the load demanded. In this paper, the proposed method used to overcome the power congestion in a transmission line is by rerouting the excess power from the overloaded line to underloaded line by changing the line reactance of the line. An IEEE 30 bus test system is developed in PSS/E software as the test system. The output monitored is the line stability index of the affected line before and after rerouting process.
