We suggest a new method for resonant optical excitation in a prototypical bilayer composed of a noble metal (Au) with grating and a ferromagnetic thin film of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) via a frequency comb.

Energetic ion beams are produced during the interaction of ultrahigh-intensity, short laser pulses with plasmas. These laser-produced ion beams have important applications ranging from the fast ignition of thermonuclear targets to proton imaging, deep proton lithography, medical physics, and injectors for conventional accelerators. Although the basic physical mechanisms of ion beam generation in the plasma produced by the laser pulse interaction with the target are common to all these applications, each application requires a specific optimization of the ion beam properties, that is, an appropriate choice of the target design and of the laser pulse intensity, shape, and duration.

AbstractThe interaction of Al and W in the Si/SiO2/W-Ti/Al thin film system is studied quantitatively by glancing angle x-ray diffraction. The formation of Al-W compounds due to annealing is monitored by the variation of the integrated intensity from a few x-ray diffraction peaks of the corresponding compounds. The annealing was conducted at 400°C, 450°C and 500°C from 1 hour to 300 hours. The kinetics of compound formation is determined using x-ray diffraction data and verified by TEM observations. We will also show the correlation of the compound formation to the change of the electrical properties of these films.

We present numerical investigation of anomalous internal photoelectric effect which is realized in thin film (< 100 nm) structures by surface plasmon (SP) excitation and its interaction with primary laser radiation. SP electric field gain and electron temperature in the SP field have been calculated.
