We present supergravity solution for F-string in pp-wave background obtained from [Formula: see text] with zero flat direction. The classical solution is shown to break all space–time supersymmetries. We explicitly write down the standard as well as supernumerary Killing spinors both for the background and F-string solution.

Starting from Lagrangian field theory and the variational principle, we show that duality in equations of motion can also be obtained by introducing explicit space–time dependence of the Lagrangian. Poincaré invariance is achieved precisely when the duality conditions are satisfied in a particular way. The same analysis and criteria are valid for both Abelian and non-Abelian dualities. We illustrate how (a) Dirac string solution, (b) Dirac quantization condition, (c) 't Hooft–Polyakov monopole solutions and (d) a procedure emerges for obtaining new classical solutions of Yang–Mills (YM) theory. Moreover, these results occur in a way that is strongly reminiscent of the holographic principle.

It is shown that in a space–time that admits a Killing spinor any solution of the Weyl or of the Maxwell equations can be used as a potential for another solution of the corresponding equation. Furthermore, it is shown that the new solution can be generated by a single component of the given one, which satisfies a decoupled equation. For the Kerr metric, the connection between the procedure presented here and several results previously known is established.

We study different Penrose limits of supergravity solution of NS5-brane in the presence of RR field. Although in the case of NS5-brane we get a four-dimensional plane wave, in the case with RR field we will get two different plane waves; a four-dimensional and a three-dimensional one. These plane wave solutions are the backgrounds that a particular string solution feels at one-loop approximation. Using the one-loop correction one can identify a particular subsector of LST/deformed LST which is dual to type II string theories on these plane waves.
