The nonlinear behavior in electron–nucleus collisions for nuclei with mass number [Formula: see text] and 265 at very small [Formula: see text] regime [Formula: see text] with low and moderate [Formula: see text] is studied. The charm and bottom heavy quarks contributions to the reduced cross-section and ratio of structure functions [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] are investigated by using the Kharzeev–Levin–Nardi phenomenological ansatz at LO and NLO analyses.

We present the complete cross-section for the production of unpolarized hadrons in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering up to power-suppressed O(1/Q2) terms in the Wandzura–Wilczek-type approximation which consists in systematically assuming that q̅gq–terms are much smaller than q̅q–correlators. We compute all twist-2 and twist-3 structure functions and the corresponding asymmetries, and discuss the applicability of the Wandzura–Wilczek-type approximations on the basis of available data. We make predictions that can be tested by data from Jefferson Lab, COMPASS, HERMES, and the future Electron-Ion Collider. The results of this paper can be readily used for phenomenology and for event generators, and will help to improve our understanding of the TMD theory beyond leading twist. Based upon the color-dipole picture, we provide closed analytic expressions for the longitudinal and the transverse photoabsorption cross-sections at low values of the Bjorken variable of [Formula: see text]. We compare with the experimental data for the longitudinal-to-transverse ratio of the (virtual) photoabsorption cross-section and with our previous fit to the experimental data for the total photoabsorption cross-section. Scaling in terms of the low-[Formula: see text] scaling variable [Formula: see text] is analyzed in terms of the reduced cross-section of deep inelastic scattering.

This report presents the latest results on structure functions, as available at the Lepton-Photon Symposium 1999. It focuses on three experimental areas: new structure function measurements, in particular from HERA at low x and high Q2; results on light and heavy flavor densities; and determinations of the gluon distribution and of αs. As the talk was delivered at a historic moment and place, a few remarks were added recalling the exciting past and looking into the promising future of deep inelastic scattering (DIS).
