Many societal decisions involve complexity and conflicting objectives. Preferences in such environments can be expected to change as situations evolve. In this paper, we propose a procedure that incorporates Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) into system dynamics modeling to handle dynamic multiple criteria situations, which we name dynamic MCDM. A case of urban infrastructure is presented to illustrate the procedure. Dynamic MCDM can handle different lags in economic, social, economic and technical effects of large scale systems. Thus, it may help decision makers avoid selecting alternatives apparently effective in the short term, but detrimental in the long term.

Probabilistic interval-valued hesitant fuzzy sets (PIVHFSs) are an extension of interval-valued hesitant fuzzy sets (IVHFSs) in which each hesitant interval value is considered along with its occurrence probability. These assigned probabilities give more details about the level of agreeness or disagreeness. PIVHFSs describe the belonging degrees in the form of interval along with probabilities and thereby provide more information and can help the decision makers (DMs) to obtain precise, rational, and consistent decision consequences than IVHFSs, as the correspondence of unpredictability and inaccuracy broadly presents in real life problems due to which experts are confused to assign the weights to the criteria. In order to cope with this problem, we construct the linear programming (LP) methodology to find the exact values of the weights for the criteria. Furthermore these weights are employed in the aggregation operators of PIVHFSs recently developed. Finally, the LP methodology and the actions are then applied on a certain multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem and a comparative analysis is given at the end.

The multiobjective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) method captures diverse features such as the criteria and alternatives of appraising a multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. At the same time, the multiple criteria problem includes a set of decision makers with diverse expertise and preferences. In fact, the literature lists numerous approaches to aid in this problematic task of choosing the best alternative. Nevertheless, in the MCDM field, there is a challenge regarding intangible information which is commonly involved in multiple criteria decision-making problem; hence, it is substantial in order to advance beyond the research related to this field. Thus, the objective of this paper is to present a fused method between multiobjective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis and Pythagorean fuzzy sets for the choice of an alternative. Besides, multiobjective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis is utilized to choose the best alternatives. Finally, two decision-making problems are applied to illustrate the feasibility and practicality of the proposed method.

Abstract This paper proposes a new multiple criteria decision-making method called ERVD (election based on relative value distances). The s-shape value function is adopted to replace the expected utility function to describe the risk-averse and risk-seeking behavior of decision makers. Comparisons and experiments contrasting with the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution) method are carried out to verify the feasibility of using the proposed method to represent the decision makers’ preference in the decision making process. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach is an appropriate and effective MCDM method.

The paper proposes a dynamic fuzzy multiple criteria decision making (DFMCDM) method. The method considers the integrated weight of the decision makers with the subjective and objective preference and the effect of time weight. In the proposed method, a mathematical programming model is used to determine the integrated weight, and a basic unit-interval monotonic (BUM) function based approach is used to calculate the time weight. In addition, a distance measure of membership function is introduced to effectively measure the degree of difference between the alternatives in the Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS). Finally, a numerical example is introduced to illustrate the proposed method.

Similarity measures have a great importance in the decision-making process. In order to identify the similarity between the options, many experts have established several types of similarity measures on the basis of vectors and distances. The Cosine, Dice, and Jaccard are the vector similarity measures. The present work enclosed the modified Jaccard and Dice similarity measures. Founded on the Dice and Jaccard similarity measures, we offered a multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) model under the dual hesitant fuzzy sets (DHFSs) situation, in which the appraised values of the alternatives with respect to criteria are articulated by dual hesitant fuzzy elements (DHFEs). Since the weights of the criteria have a much influence in making the decisions, therefore decision makers (DMs) allocate the weights to each criteria according to their knowledge. In the present work, we get rid of the doubt to allocate the weights to the criteria by taking an objective function under some constraints and then extended the linear programming (LP) technique to evaluate the weights of the criteria. The Dice and Jaccard weighted similarity measures are practiced amongst the ideal and each alternative to grade all the alternatives to get the best one. Eventually, two practical examples, about investment companies and selection of smart phone accessories are assumed to elaborate the efficiency of the proposed methodology.

The prioritization of factors has been widely studied applying different methods from the domain of the multiple-criteria decision-making, such as for example the Analytic Hierarchy Process method (AHP) based on decision-makers’ pairwise comparisons. Most of these methods are subjected to a complex analysis. The Bradley-Terry model is a probability model for paired evaluations. Although this model is usually known for its application to calculating probabilities, it can be also extended for ranking factors based on pairwise comparison. This application is much less used; however, this work shows that it can provide advantages, such as greater simplicity than traditional multiple-criteria decision methods in some contexts. This work presents a method for ranking the perspectives and indicators of a balance scorecard when the opinion of several decision-makers needs to be combined. The data come from an elicitation process, accounting for the number of times a factor is preferred to others by the decision-makers in a pairwise comparisons. No preference scale is used; the process just indicates the winner of the comparison. Then, the priority weights are derived from the Bradley-Terry model. The method is applied in a Financial Software Factory for demonstration and validation. The results are compared against the application of the AHP method for the same data, concluding that despite the simplifications made with the new approach, the results are very similar. The study contributes to the multiple-criteria decision-making domain by building an integrated framework, which can be used as a tool for scorecard prioritization.

In this study, the ELECTRE III method, which is one of the most common techniques among multiple criteria decision‐making (MCDM) approaches, was considered in a selection problem of concrete pumps. As a methodological framework, a two‐step questionnaire survey was conducted by 70 firms that have and use concrete pumps. A solution of the problem was then found in the light of the real world data by means of ELECTRE III. The paper can be of value to researchers studying the anatomy of decision‐making in equipment selection in general and investigating selection criteria of concrete pumps in particular. It also contributes to the academic environment as an application practice of ELECTRE III to correspond with the nature of equipment selection and as an effective means for the formalization of knowledge possessed by industrial practitioners. On the practical side, ELECTRE III offers an efficient and convenient tool that forces the users into orderly and methodical thinking, and guides them in making logical and robust decisions. In addition, the example illustrated in the present study can be helpful for decision‐makers dealing with similar equipment selection issues. Santrauka Šio tyrimo ELECTRE III metodas – vienas dažniausiai taikomų metodų iš daugiatikslių sprendimo priėmimo metodų – buvo pritaikytas betono siurblių parinkimo uždaviniui spręsti. 70 įmonių buvo apklaustos dviem etapais. Tuomet buvo išspręstas realus uždavinys realiais duomenimis, taikant ELECTRE III metodą. Straipsnis gali būti naudingas tyrėjams, nagrinėjantiems įrenginių parinkimo uždavinių prigimtį ir esmę. Šis straipsnis turi akademinę ir praktinę vertę, nes išreiškia efektyvių sprendimų priėmimo proceso esmę ir pateikia tvirtą sprendimo priėmimo pagrindą. Pateiktas praktinio uždavinio sprendimas yra gera metodinė priemonė parenkant statybinius mechanizmus.
