We develop sampling expansion formulas on the shift invariant closed subspace V(ϕ) of L2ℝ generated by a frame or a Riesz generator ϕ(t). We find necessary and sufficient conditions under which a regular shifted sampling expansion to hold on V(ϕ) and also introduce a single channel sampling on V(ϕ) together with some illustrating examples.

This paper is an investigation of shift invariant subspaces of L2(G), where G is a locally compact abelian group, or in general a local field, with a compact open subgroup. In this paper we state necessary and sufficient conditions for shifts of an element of L2(G) to be an orthonormal system or a Parseval frame. Also we show that each shift invariant subspace of L2(G) is a direct sum of principle shift invariant subspaces of L2(G) generated by Parseval frame generators.

Let φ be a continuous function in L2(ℝ) such that the sequence {φ(t - n)}n∈ℤ is a frame sequence in L2(ℝ) and assume that the shift-invariant space V(φ) generated by φ has a multi-banded spectrum σ(V). The main aim in this paper is to derive a multi-channel sampling theory for the shift-invariant space V(φ). By using a type of Fourier duality between the spaces V(φ) and L2[0, 2π] we find necessary and sufficient conditions allowing us to obtain stable multi-channel sampling expansions in V(φ).

A subset V of M(G) is left H-invariant if it is invariant under left translation by the elements of H, a subset of a locally compact group G. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions on H which ensure that finite dimensional subspaces of M(G) when G is compact, or of L∞(G) when G is locally compact Abelian, which are invariant in this weaker sense, contain only trigonometric polynomials. This generalises known results for finite dimensional G-invariant subspaces. We show that if H is a subgroup of finite index in a compact group G, and the span of the H-translates of μ is a weak*-closed subspace of L∞(G) or M(G) (or is closed in Lp(G)for 1 ≤ p < ∞), then μ is a trigonometric polynomial. We also obtain some results concerning functions that possess the analogous weaker almost periodic condition relative to H.

For any ϕ(t) in L2(ℝ), let V(ϕ) be the closed shift invariant subspace of L2(ℝ) spanned by integer translates {ϕ(t - n) : n ∈ ℤ} of ϕ(t). Assuming that ϕ(t) is a frame or a Riesz generator of V(ϕ), we first find conditions under which V(ϕ) becomes a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. We then find necessary and sufficient conditions under which an irregular or a regular shifted sampling expansion formula holds on V(ϕ) and obtain truncation error estimates of the sampling series. We also find a sufficient condition for a function in L2(ℝ) that belongs to a sampling subspace of L2(ℝ). Several illustrating examples are also provided.

We present the necessary and sufficient conditions that the intersection of an open set and a closed set becomes either an open set or a closed set. As their dualities, we further introduce the necessary and sufficient conditions that the union of a closed set and an open set becomes either a closed set or an open set. Moreover, we give some necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of U ∘ ∪ V ∘ = ( U ∪ V ) ∘ and U ¯ ∩ V ¯ = U ∩ V ¯ . Finally, we introduce a necessary and sufficient condition for an open subset of a closed subspace of a topological space to be open. As its duality, we also give a necessary and sufficient condition for a closed subset of an open subspace to be closed.

We extend and simplify several classical results on weighted norm inequalities for classical operators acting on rearrangement invariant spaces using the theory of indices. As an application we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized Hardy type operators to be bounded on?p(w),?p,8(w),Gp(w)andGp,8(w).

The Laplace transform of the extinction time is determined for a general birth and death process with arbitrary catastrophe rate and catastrophe size distribution. It is assumed only that the birth rates satisfyλ0= 0,λj> 0 for eachj> 0, and. Necessary and sufficient conditions for certain extinction of the population are derived. The results are applied to the linear birth and death process (λj=jλ, µj=jμ) with catastrophes of several different types.

The study of the differential-algebraic boundary value problems, traditional for the Kiev school of nonlinear oscillations, founded by academicians M.M. Krylov, M.M. Bogolyubov, Yu.A. Mitropolsky and A.M. Samoilenko. It was founded in the 19th century in the works of G. Kirchhoff and K. Weierstrass and developed in the 20th century by M.M. Luzin, F.R. Gantmacher, A.M. Tikhonov, A. Rutkas, Yu.D. Shlapac, S.L. Campbell, L.R. Petzold, Yu.E. Boyarintsev, V.F. Chistyakov, A.M. Samoilenko, O.A. Boichuk, V.P. Yacovets, C.W. Gear and others. In the works of S.L. Campbell, L.R. Petzold, Yu.E. Boyarintsev, V.F. Chistyakov, A.M. Samoilenko and V.P. Yakovets were obtained sufficient conditions for the reducibility of the linear differential-algebraic system to the central canonical form and the structure of the general solution of the degenerate linear system was obtained. Assuming that the conditions for the reducibility of the linear differential-algebraic system to the central canonical form were satisfied, O.A.~Boichuk obtained the necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the linear Noetherian differential-algebraic boundary value problem and constructed a generalized Green operator of this problem. Based on this, later O.A. Boichuk and O.O. Pokutnyi obtained the necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the weakly nonlinear differential algebraic boundary value problem, the linear part of which is a Noetherian differential algebraic boundary value problem. Thus, out of the scope of the research, the cases of dependence of the desired solution on an arbitrary continuous function were left, which are typical for the linear differential-algebraic system. Our article is devoted to the study of just such a case. The article uses the original necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the linear Noetherian differential-algebraic boundary value problem and the construction of the generalized Green operator of this problem, constructed by S.M. Chuiko. Based on this, necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the weakly nonlinear differential-algebraic boundary value problem were obtained. A typical feature of the obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the linear and weakly nonlinear differential-algebraic boundary-value problem is its dependence on the means of fixing of the arbitrary continuous function. An improved classification and a convergent iterative scheme for finding approximations to the solutions of weakly nonlinear differential algebraic boundary value problems was constructed in the article.
