This paper is about geometric quantization of the Hitchin system. We quantize a Kahler form on the Hitchin moduli space (which is half the first Kahler form defined by Hitchin) by considering the Quillen bundle as the prequantum line bundle and modifying the Quillen metric using the Higgs field so that the curvature is proportional to the Kahler form. We show that this Kahler form is integral and the Quillen bundle descends as a prequantum line bundle on the moduli space. It is holomorphic and hence one can take holomorphic square integrable sections as the Hilbert space of quantization of the Hitchin moduli space.

In this paper, we calculate the dimension of the Hilbert space of Kähler quantization of the moduli space of vortices on a Riemann surface. This dimension is given by the holomorphic Euler characteristic of the quantum line bundle.

Abstract The strongly coupled heterotic M-theory vacuum for both the observable and hidden sectors of the B − L MSSM theory is reviewed, including a discussion of the “bundle” constraints that both the observable sector SU(4) vector bundle and the hidden sector bundle induced from a single line bundle must satisfy. Gaugino condensation is then introduced within this context, and the hidden sector bundles that exhibit gaugino condensation are presented. The condensation scale is computed, singling out one line bundle whose associated condensation scale is low enough to be compatible with the energy scales available at the LHC. The corresponding region of Kähler moduli space where all bundle constraints are satisfied is presented. The generic form of the moduli dependent F-terms due to a gaugino superpotential — which spontaneously break N = 1 supersymmetry in this sector — is presented and then given explicitly for the unique line bundle associated with the low condensation scale. The moduli-dependent coefficients for each of the gaugino and scalar field soft supersymmetry breaking terms are computed leading to a low-energy effective Lagrangian for the observable sector matter fields. We then show that at a large number of points in Kähler moduli space that satisfy all “bundle” constraints, these coefficients are initial conditions for the renormalization group equations which, at low energy, lead to completely realistic physics satisfying all phenomenological constraints. Finally, we show that a substantial number of these initial points also satisfy a final constraint arising from the quadratic Higgs-Higgs conjugate soft supersymmetry breaking term.

AbstractLet K be a field of characteristic 0. Fix integers r, d coprime with r ⩾ 2. Let XK be a smooth, projective, geometrically connected curve of genus g ⩾ 2 defined over K. Assume there exists a line bundle ${\cal L}_K$ on XK of degree d. In this paper we prove the existence of a stable locally free sheaf on XK with rank r and determinant ${\cal L}_K$. This trivially proves the C1 conjecture in mixed characteristic for the moduli space of stable locally free sheaves of fixed rank and determinant over a smooth, projective curve.

AbstractWe prove a variant of a formula due to Zhang relating the Beilinson– Bloch height of the Gross–Schoen cycle on a pointed curve with the self-intersection of its relative dualizing sheaf. In our approach, the height of the Gross–Schoen cycle occurs as the degree of a suitable Bloch line bundle. We show that the Chern form of this line bundle is nonnegative, and we calculate its class in the Picard group of the moduli space of pointed stable curves of compact type. The basic tools are normal functions and biextensions associated to the cohomology of the universal Jacobian.

In this paper we apply the theory of quasi-free states of CAR algebras and Bogolubov automorphisms to give an alternative C*-algebraic construction of the Determinant and Pfaffian line bundles discussed by Pressley and Segal and by Borthwick. The basic property of the Pfaffian of being the holomorphic square root of the Determinant line bundle (after restriction from the Hilbert space Grassmannian to the Siegel manifold, or isotropic Grassmannian, consisting of all complex structures on an associated Hilbert space) is derived from a Fock–anti-Fock correspondence and an application of the Powers–Størmer purification procedure. A Borel–Weil type description of the infinite dimensional Spin c- representation is obtained, via a Shale–Stinespring implementation of Bogolubov transformations.

This survey is based on my lectures given in the last few years. As a reference, constructions of moduli spaces of parabolic sheaves and generalized parabolic sheaves are provided. By a refinement of the proof of vanishing theorems, we show, without using vanishing theorems, a new observation that [Formula: see text] is independent of all of the choices for any smooth curves. The estimate of various codimensions and computation of canonical line bundle of moduli space of generalized parabolic sheaves on a reducible curve are provided in Section 6, which is completely new.

The moduli space [Formula: see text] of rank four semistable symplectic vector bundles over a curve X of genus two is an irreducible projective variety of dimension ten. Its Picard group is generated by the determinantal line bundle Ξ. The base locus of the linear system |Ξ| consists of precisely those bundles without theta divisors, that is, admitting nonzero maps from every line bundle of degree -1 over X. We show that this base locus consists of six distinct points, which are in canonical bijection with the Weierstrass points of the curve. We relate our construction of these bundles to another of Raynaud and Beauville using Fourier–Mukai transforms. As an application, we prove that the map sending a symplectic vector bundle to its theta divisor is a surjective map from [Formula: see text] to the space of even 4Θ divisors on the Jacobian variety of the curve.

In this paper the moduli space of Higgs pairs over a fixed smooth projective curve with extra formal data is defined and is endowed with a scheme structure. We introduce a relative version of the Krichever map using a fibration of Sato Grassmannians and show that this map is injective. This, together with the characterization of the points of the image of the Krichever map, allows us to prove that this moduli space is a closed subscheme of the product of the moduli of vector bundles (with formal extra data) and a formal anologue of the Hitchin base. This characterization also provides us with a method for explicitly computing KP-type equations that describe the moduli space of Higgs pairs. Finally, for the case where the spectral cover is totally ramified at a fixed point of the curve, these equations are given in terms of the characteristic coefficients of the Higgs field.
