In the course of validating a test battery for the selection of police officers (Baehr, Furcon, & Froemel, 1969), project personnel were searching for objectively scored, pencil-and-paper measures of behavior variables. One product of this search was an adaptation of the Arrow-Dot subtest of the four-part IES test battery (Dombrose & Slobin, 1958). This adaptation was designed for group administration and for improved reliability as a possible predictor of performance. Intercorrelational analysis and factor analysis of intercorrelations with other potential predictor variables and performance criteria provided some information on the nature of the Arrow-Dot scores. The test's ability to predict police officers' performance was assessed through multiple regression analyses of its scores both as independent predictors and as contributors of unique variance in a wider predictor battery. Its usefulness for diagnosis of specific problems in police officers' performance was also investigated. Application in five additional studies permitted an exploration of the “characteristic” Arrow-Dot dimension profile for police officers.

Background: The implementation of Family Physician Program (FPP) in Iran during the past decade, despite of its numerous achievements, has faced many challenges. We aimed to compare the implementation and the performance of FPP in Iran with selected countries, in order to analyze those challenges and suggest potential solutions. Methods: This current descriptive-comparative study was conducted in 2015. The implementation and the performance of the FPP in Iran and six countries (Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark, United States and the Netherlands) were described and compared. The criteria for selection of these countries were the existence of well-established FFPs and ease of access to data required to conduct the research. A documentation checklist of the implementation status and FPP practice was prepared. The checklist’s content validity was established by an independent 10 member expert panel, specializing in the field of Family Medicine. The conclusive checklist was finalized for each country, based on inter-rater agreement of the three researchers and used as a basis for this comparative study. Results: This study revealed significant differences in implementation of the FPP and relatively low differences in FPP performance between Iran and the selected countries. Conclusion: Implementation and performance of FPP and patient referral system in Iran struggles with serious challenges and burdens, in contrast with the selected reviewed countries. As such, modification of the FPP in Iran seems to be a must. Such modification may include developing educational programs for FPs, clearly defining the duties and practices of FPs, and revising their reimbursement and employment status.

There is no systematic information in the literature about the methodology for achieving the required functional properties of the executive surfaces of various objects: machine parts, tools and technological equipment for mechanical processing of materials in cold and hot conditions. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in developing a methodology for creating executive surfaces of parts for various purposes using electric spark alloying and justifying the criteria and parameters for evaluating this method. (Materials and methods) The authors created a methodological base by using the deductive method with gradual level specification and addition of the developed topics. The basis of the development was the four-link paradigm of G. V. Samsonov “composition-technology-structure-properties”, supplemented by a feature of the functional purpose of the material and extended features of the composition and technology. Authors used a hypothetical-deductive model for obtaining scientific knowledge to develop a methodology for creating executive surfaces of parts using the ESA method. (Results and discussion) The article shows the role of hardness, melting temperature, and elastic modulus of materials in the formation of electric spark coatings and their properties, identifies technological variants of the doped layer macrostructure, reveals the wettability of the anode material with the cathode material, the mutual solubility of the materials of the "anode-cathode-medium" system, and their chemical affinity. (Conclusions) The article presents the methodological schemes for the study and selection of the anode material, which largely determines the desired properties of the doped layer. Authors proposed a methodological approach to the development of criteria and indicators for the effectiveness of electric spark alloying, analysis and generalization of the main methodological provisions for strengthening and restoring the executive surfaces by this method, taking into account their functional purpose. The article considers a number of dominant factors that affect the efficiency of electrospark doping, as well as the selection and development of performance criteria in the field of surface materialology.
