Metal-free- and metallophthalocyanines ( M = Ni , Zn and Co ) carrying four di-n-hexylamino and four chloro groups in peripheral positions have been synthesized from the corresponding dichlorophthalonitrile derivative in the presence of the anhydrous metal salts [ NiCl 2, Zn ( O 2 CMe )2, CoCl 2] or a strong organic base. The new compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, NMR and electronic spectroscopy and mass spectra.

New metal-free 5 and metallophthalocyanines 6-11( M = Cu , Ni , Co , Pb , Zn ) fused in peripheral positions with four 24-membered tetraoxatetraaza macrocycles were prepared by cyclotetramerization of 24,25-dicyano-4,10,13,17-tetra(toluene-p-sulfonyl)-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22-didicontinehydrobenzo[y][3,9,12,18]tetraaza[1,7,16,22]tetraoxatetradicontine in the presence of the corresponding metal salt or a strong organic base. While the N-tosylated derivatives of the phthalocyanines are soluble in common organic solvents, the detosylated derivative of copper phthalocyaninate is soluble in water. The aggregation properties of the phthalocyanines were also investigated as a function of concentration, solvent and oxidative medium. The new compounds are characterized by a combination of elemental analysis and 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, IR, UV-vis and MS spectral data.

The paper presents the synthesis and characterization of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Hg(II) complexes with N1-[4-(4-bromo-phenylsulfonyl)-benzoyl]-N4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-thiosemicarbazide. The new compounds were characterized by IR, EPR, electronic spectroscopy, magnetic moments, thermo-gravimetric analysis and elemental analysis.

AbstractNew 4,7-bis(arylamino)-2-tetra-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranosylimino-1,3,5,6-dithiadiazepines were synthesized via reaction of N-tetra-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl isocyanodichloride with 1,6-diaryl-2,5-dithio-bis-ureas without using any catalyst. Thus, the synthesis of 7-membered heterocycles containing two sulfur and two nitrogen atoms through carbon-sulfur bond formation was explored. The chemical structures of these new compounds were elucidated by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectral, and elemental analyses.

Template 1:1 condensation of 3,5-diacetyl-1,2,4-triazole with thiocarbohydrazide or car- bohydrazide in the presence of 1 equivalent of Pb(SCN)2 produces mononuclear [2 + 1] com­plexes 1 and 3. The analogous reaction with thiosemicarbazide and semicarbazide produces the dinuclear [1+2] complex 2 and the mononuclear metal free 4. The carbohydrazide deriva­tive 3 reacts with the carbohydrazide or the 1,3-diaminopropane to yield the macrocyclic dinuclear complexes 5 and 6. Direct reaction of 3,5-diacetyl-1,2,4-triazole with thiocarbohydrazide. carbohydrazide, thiosemicarbazide and semicarbazide leads to open [1+1] ligands L1, L2, L3, L4, and closed [1+1] ligands (mesocyclic ligands) L5 and L6 were prepared by addition of 1 equivalent of LiOH to the reaction mixture. The reaction of open and mesocyclic [1+1] ligands with copper(II) salts gives [CuLX2] and [Cu2+L2-] complexes. All these compounds have been characterized by 1H NMR, IR, electronic and mass spectra and by analytical data.

Metal phthalocyanines containing an unsymmetrically substituted nitro group were synthesized from 4-nitrophthalonitrile and the corresponding anhydrous metal salts ( Co ( OAc )2, Zn ( OAc )2) by the method of statistically mixed condensation reactions. The new type of metallo-bisphthalocyanine compounds connected by a N = N bridge was prepared from the reactions of respective nitro compounds with sodium hydroxide ( NaOH ) and activated zinc powder in a mixture of methanol ( MeOH ) and tetrahydrofuran (THF). The structures of these compounds were characterized by using 1 H NMR, IR, elemental analyses, UV-vis and magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopies.

Peripheral and non-peripheral tetra(13,17-dioxanonacosane-15-hydroxy) substituted metal free-, Ni (II) and Zn (II) phthalocyanines have been synthesized from the corresponding phthalonitrile derivatives in the presence of the anhydrous metal salt ( NiCl 2 and Zn ( OOCCH 3)2) or a strong organic base. The new compounds have been characterised by elemental analyses, IR, NMR, mass spectra and electronic spectroscopy. The mesogenic properties of these new materials were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), optical polarised microscopy and X-ray investigations. The effects of peripheral or non-peripheral substitution of (13,17-dioxanonacosane-15-hydroxy) to the phthalocyanine ring are also investigated. It is found out that non-peripheral substituted phthalocyanine derivatives (4a-c) are liquid at room temperature whereas, peripheral substituted phthalocyanine derivatives (7a-c) exhibit ordered discotic hexagonal columnar mesophases ( Col h) at room temperature.

An original method based on metal-free ligand and lanthanide acetate direct interaction in the presence of a strong organic base (DBU) is used to prepare sandwich-type gadolinium and ytterbium crown-ether substituted phthalocyanines bis[4,5,4′,5′,4″,5″,4‴,5‴-tetrakis(1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxatridecamethylene)phthalocyaninato]gadolinium (ytterbium) and tris[4,5,4′,5′,4″,5″,4‴-,5‴-tetrakis(1,4,7,10,13-pentaoxatridecamethylene)phthalocyaninato]digadolinium (ytterbium) which are characterized by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and UV-vis spectroscopy.

The reaction between Br3GeAll (1) and N(CH2CHMeOSnBu3)3 (2, mixture of isomers) yielded N(CH2CHMeO)3GeAll (3) as a mixture of diastereomers. Three azagermatranes of the type N(CH2CH2NR)3GeAll (9, R = H; 10, R = Me; 11, R = Me3Si) have been synthesized from the reaction of (Me2N)3GeAll (5) with N (CH2CH2NHR)3 (R = H, 6; Me, 7; Me3Si, 8). Composition and structures of the new compounds were established by elemental analyses, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.

The synthesis and characterization of metal-free and metallo derivatives ( Cu , Zn , Ni , Pd ) of tetra-substituted phthalocyanines are described. The new compounds contain as a peripheral substituent 3-n-pentadecylphenol, a component of cardanol, which is a renewable organic source.
