A one-step microwave-assisted pyrolysis of ionic liquid process is developed to synthesize carbon-coated LiFePO4by using the ionic liquid [BMIm]N(CN)2as a carbon source. A thin layer of uniform and nanoscaled carbon film is formed on the LiFePO4particles surface with a strong interface. The electrochemical properties of LiFePO4are improved due to the carbon coating which increases the electronic conductivity of LiFePO4. The results indicate that the microwave-assisted pyrolysis of ionic liquid process is a rapid and efficient method to prepare carbon-coated LiFePO4material and other carbon-coated electrode materials.

A simple and efficient microwave-assisted methodology for the synthesis of 4-substituted-3-methyl-1,3-oxazolidin-2-ones from amino alcohols catalyzed by a ionic liquid was developed. This novel one-pot and one-step cyclization-methylation reaction represents an easier and faster method than any other reported protocols that can be used to obtain the desired products in good yields and high purity. Applying microwave irradiation at 130°C in the presence of TBAC, dimethyl carbonate acts simultaneously as carbonylating and methylating agent and surprisingly promotes anin situbasic trans esterification when aN-acetylated amino alcohol is used as starting material. Furthermore, dimethyl carbonate worked better than diethyl carbonate in performing this reaction.

AbstractLiFePO4/C composite cathode materials were synthesized by one-step solid-state reaction using FePO4 as main raw materials and solid PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) as a reductive agent and carbon source. The sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analysis and charge-discharge test. The results indicated that the carbon generated from the pyrogenation of PVA did not affect the olivine structure of the cathode materials but considerably improved its high-rate discharge ability and cycle performance. The initial discharge capacity of the sample was 149.7, 133.1, 120.6, 93.0 mAh/g at 0.2C, 1C, 2C, 5C respectively, and the discharge capacity could reach 90 mAh/g at 5C rates after 80 cycles. It is believed that the carbon coating could lead to small particle size and high electronic conductivity of active materials, thus leading to excellent electrochemical performance of LiFePO4/C cathode materials.
