As near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) broadens its application area to different age and disease groups, motion artifacts in the NIRS signal due to subject movement is becoming an important challenge. Motion artifacts generally produce signal fluctuations that are larger than physiological NIRS signals, thus it is crucial to correct for them before obtaining an estimate of stimulus evoked hemodynamic responses. There are various methods for correction such as principle component analysis (PCA), wavelet-based filtering and spline interpolation. Here, we introduce a new approach to motion artifact correction, targeted principle component analysis (tPCA), which incorporates a PCA filter only on the segments of data identified as motion artifacts. It is expected that this will overcome the issues of filtering desired signals that plagues standard PCA filtering of entire data sets. We compared the new approach with the most effective motion artifact correction algorithms on a set of data acquired simultaneously with a collodion-fixed probe (low motion artifact content) and a standard Velcro probe (high motion artifact content). Our results show that tPCA gives statistically better results in recovering hemodynamic response function (HRF) as compared to wavelet-based filtering and spline interpolation for the Velcro probe. It results in a significant reduction in mean-squared error (MSE) and significant enhancement in Pearson's correlation coefficient to the true HRF. The collodion-fixed fiber probe with no motion correction performed better than the Velcro probe corrected for motion artifacts in terms of MSE and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Thus, if the experimental study permits, the use of a collodion-fixed fiber probe may be desirable. If the use of a collodion-fixed probe is not feasible, then we suggest the use of tPCA in the processing of motion artifact contaminated data.

In this paper, a new motion artifact correction method is proposed based on multi-channel functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) signals. Recently, wavelet transform and hemodynamic response function-based algorithms were proposed as methods of denoising and detrending fNIRS signals. However, these techniques cannot achieve impressive performance in the experimental environment with lots of movement such as gait and rehabilitation tasks because hemodynamic responses have features similar to those of motion artifacts. Moreover, it is difficult to correct motion artifacts in multi-measured fNIRS systems, which have multiple channels and different noise features in each channel. Thus, a new motion artifact correction method for multi-measured fNIRS is proposed in this study, which includes a decision algorithm to determine the most contaminated fNIRS channel based on entropy and a reconstruction algorithm to correct motion artifacts by using a wavelet-decomposed back-propagation neural network. The experimental data was achieved from six subjects and the results were analyzed in comparing conventional algorithms such as HRF smoothing, wavelet denoising, and wavelet MDL. The performance of the proposed method was proven experimentally using the graphical results of the corrected fNIRS signal, CNR that is a performance evaluation index, and the brain activation map.

Endapan emas di daerah Kokap, Kabupaten Kulon Progo yang berasosiasi dengan endapan tipe epitermal terbentuk akibat adanya proses alterasi hidrotermal. Pemanfaatan data penginderaan jauh untuk pemetaan alterasi telah berhasil dilakukan diberbagai lokasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kemampuan citra ASTER saluran visible near infrared (VNIR) dan saluran shortwave infrared (SWIR) dalam memetakan jenis alterasi menggunakan metode Principle Component Analysis (PCA) dan Directed Principal Component (DPC). Klasifikasi multispektral selanjutnya dilakukan untuk membedakan tipe alterasi hidrotermal menggunakan kombinasi saluran hasil PCA dan DPC. Keberhasilan pemetaan alterasi hidrotermal dievaluasi secara statistik menggunakan confusion matrix. Tingkat akurasi yang dapat diterima adalah sebesar 85% dengan koefisien kappa lebih besar dari 0.8. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan metode DPC memiliki akurasi lebih baik dari PCA dalam memetakan tipe alterasi meskipun tingkat akurasi keduanya dibawah batas yang ditentukan. Saluran ASTER yang paling baik digunakan untuk memetakan tipe alterasi hidrotermal di lokasi penelitian adalah 1, 2, 4, dan 6.

The voice recognition system is about cognizing the signals, by feature extraction and identification of related parameters. The whole process is referred to as voice analytics. The paper aims at analysing and synthesizing the phonetics of voice using a computer program called “PRAAT”. The work carried out in the paper also supports the analysis of voice segmentation labelling, analyse the unique features of voice cues, understanding physics of voice, further the process is carried out to recognize sarcasm. Different unique features identified in the work are, intensity, pitch, formants related to read, speak, interactive and declarative sentences by using principle component analysis.
