Purpose This paper aims to study the encounter issues of the Tethered-Space Net Robot System (TSNRS) with non-target objects on orbit during the maneuver, including the collision issues with small space debris and the obstacle avoidance from large obstacles. Design/methodology/approach For the collision of TSNRS with small debris, the available collision model of the tethered net and its limitation is discussed, and the collision detection method is improved. Then the dynamic response of TSNRS is studied and a closed-loop controller is designed. For the obstacle avoidance, the variable enveloping circle of the TSNRS has coupled with the artificial potential field (APF) method. In addition, the APF is improved with a local trajectory correction method to avoid the overbending segment of the trajectory. Findings The collision model coupled with the improved collision detection method solves the detection failure and speeds up calculation efficiency by 12 times. Collisions of TSNRS with small debris make the local thread stretch and deforms finally making the net a mess. The boundary of the disturbance is obtained by a series of collision tests, and the designed controller not only achieved the tracking control of the TSNRS but also suppressed the disturbance of the net. Practical implications This paper fills the gap in the research on the collision of the tethered net with small debris and makes the collision model more general and efficient by improving the collision detection method. And the coupled obstacle avoidance method makes the process of obstacle avoidance safer and smoother. Originality/value The work in this paper provides a reference for the on-orbit application of TSNRS in the active space debris removal mission.

AbstractA raw electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) signal can be empirically decomposed into a Kikuchi diffraction pattern and a smooth background. For pattern indexing, the latter is generally undesirable but can reveal topographical, compositional, or diffraction contrast. In this study, we proposed a new background correction method using polynomial fitting (PF) algorithm to obtain clear Kikuchi diffraction patterns for some applications in nonconductive materials due to coating problems, at low accelerated voltage and at rough sample surfaces and for the requirement of high pattern quality in HR-EBSD. To evaluate the quality metrics of the Kikuchi patterns, we initially used three indices, namely, pattern quality, Tenengrad variance, and spatial–spectral entropy-based quality to detect the clarity, contrast, and noise of Kikuchi patterns obtained at 5 and 15 kV. Then, we examined the performance of PF method by comparing it with pattern averaging and Fourier transform-based methods. Finally, this PF background correction is demonstrated to extract the background images from the blurred diffraction patterns of EBSD measurements at low kV accelerating voltage and with coating layer, and to provide clear Kikuchi patterns successfully.

Abstract Objective: To develop a novel, free-induction-decay (FID)-calibrated single-shot simultaneous multi-slice fast spin echo (SMS-FSE) with very long hard pulse trains for high encoding efficiency and low energy deposition. Approach: The proposed single-shot SMS-FSE employs a mixed pulse configuration in which a long excitation pulse that is spatially multi-band (MB) selective is used in conjunction with short spatially nonselective refocusing pulses. To alleviate energy deposition to tissues while reducing signal modulation along the echo train, variable low flip angles with signal prescription are utilized in the refocusing pulse train. A time-efficient FID-calibration and correction method is introduced before aliased voxels in the slice direction are resolved. Simulations and experiments are performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method as an alternative to conventional HASTE for generating T2-weighted images. Main results: Compared with conventional HASTE, the proposed method enhances imaging speed effectively by an MB factor up to 5 without apparent loss of image contrast while successfully eliminating FID artifacts. Significance: We successfully demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed method as an encoding- and energy-efficient alternative to conventional HASTE for generation of T2-weighted contrast.

Introduction. Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is frequently accompanied by respiratory system complications. One of the correction method of post stroke complications is administration of immunosuppressive drug fingolimod. Theobjective of the study is to investigate non-respiratory lung functions in experimental ICH during fingolimod treatment. Materials and methods. Animals were divided into 3 groups: group 1 with ICH, group 2 with ICH receiving fingolimod and group 3 as reference group. Intracranial hemorrhage was modelled by 160 μl autologic blood injection into lateral brain ventricle (P=0.6; D=1.5; V=3.5). Fingolimod (FTY 720, «Sigma») was administered within 1 hour after ICH (intraabdominal, 1 mg/kg). Biochemistry and functional parameters of the lung surfactant in animals were studied. Phospholipids fractions spectrum was assessed by thin-layer chromatography, superficial surfactant activity by Wilhelmi method. Parameters of water metabolism, pulmonary blood filling were studied by gravimetric method. Level of blood nitric oxide was estimated by amount of nitrates and nitrites stable terminal metabolites. Results. We revealed that experimental ICH causes a decrease of alveolar stability index by 9 %, decrease of total alveolar phospholipids content by 25 % and change of its fraction composition, i.e. decrease of major surface active fraction (phosphatidylcholine) by 68 %, increase of phosphatidic acid amount by 151 % and increase of lisophosphatidylcholine by 163 %. Besides that, experimental ICH is followed by lung edema on the lung blood filling background and increase of blood NO. Fingolimod administration does not affect surfactant surface activity but totally corrects water balance, lung blood filling and blood NO content.

State of energy (SOE) is a critical index of lithium battery. The problem of the inaccurate available energy and recovered energy of lithium battery affects the accuracy of SOE estimation. In order to solve the problem, this paper proposes a method to estimate the available discharge energy of lithium batteries based on response surface model. In this method, the energy efficiency of lithium batteries in different states is obtained by establishing the relationship model of external charge voltage and external discharge voltage, so as to estimate the actual available energy of lithium batteries in different charge states. On this basis, a correction method based on radial basis function (RBF) neural network is proposed to estimate the actual energy released by the recovered energy when the current direction of the battery is changed. The proposed energy correction method is combined with the adaptive particle filter algorithm to estimate SOE. This method is not limited to the assumption of Gaussian function and can accurately predict the noise variance, so as to improve the estimation accuracy of SOE. Simulations under urban dynamometer driving schedule (UDDS) are conducted, and the result shows that the proposed method can effectively estimate the battery energy and improve the accuracy of SOE estimation.
