Abstract. A new genus of cytherurid ostracod, Eripleura, with the type species E. eleanorae sp. nov. from the Upper Oxfordian (? rosenkrantzi Zone) and Lower Kimmeridgian (baylei Zone) of southern England is described and compared with Procytheropteron. Two further species are described for the first time, Eripleura obliquicosta from the Lower Kimmeridgian cymodoce Zone, and Procytheropteron? elongatum from the Upper Oxfordian tenuiserratum Zone.

The 12 species previously placed in Tortopus together with 3 species newly described here, are revised and included in a phylogenetic analysis. Based on synapomorphic characters on the nymphs and adults of both sexes, Tortopus is restricted to T. igaranus Needham & Murphy, T. circumfluus Ulmer, T. harrisi Traver, T. zottai (Navás), T. bellus Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty, and T. arenales sp. nov., and the genus is defined by: female parastyli receptors with long furrows anterior to sockets; penes entirely flattened; male ninth abdominal sternum almost separated in two portions by a median notch; mesosternum with furcasternal protuberances contiguous only on basal corner; and nymphs with two subapical tubercles on mandibular tusks. Tortopsis is newly described for T. bruchianus (Navás), T. limoncocha sp. nov., T. obscuripennis (Domínguez), T. parishi (Banks), T. primus (McDunnough), T. puella (Pictet), T. sarae (Domínguez), T. spatula sp. nov., and T. unguiculatus (Ulmer). Tortopsis is characterized by: R sector of female fore wing without additional veins between R 2 and IR; female parastyli receptors C or V-shaped, with sockets opening towards median line; male gonopore associated with a claw-like structure; penes separated from the base; parastyli more than 5 times length of pedestals; parastyli curved in lateral view; nymphs with a single subapical tubercle on mandibular tusks. The study of available type material permitted inclusion of comparative diagnoses, with figures and redescriptions as needed. The male imago of the type species of Tortopus (T. igaranus Needham & Murphy) is described for the first time, as are the female adults of Tortopus bellus Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty and T. harrisi Traver. Three new Neotropical species based on male and female adults are described: Tortopus arenales and Tortopsis limoncocha from Ecuador, and Tortopsis spatula from Colombia. Keys to separate the adults and nymphs of the genera of Polymitarcyidae, and for male and female adults of all the species of Tortopus and Tortopsis are presented, as well as line drawings, pictures and SEM photographs of important structures.

A new genus of gnaphosid spiders, Almafuerte, gen. nov., is described for seven species from Southern South America. The new genus is diagnosed by a conspicuous retrolateral tegular projection on the male palp, and by having three teeth on the cheliceral retromargin. It comprises six species from Argentina, A. peripampasica sp. nov. (type species), from Central Argentina, also present in Uruguay, A. kuru sp. nov., from Santiago del Estero, A. vigorosa sp. nov., from Corrientes, A. goloboffi sp. nov., from Salta and Jujuy, A. remota sp. nov., from Santiago del Estero and Mendoza, and A. giaii (Gerschman & Schiapelli) comb. nov., here transferred from Echemus, from Santa Fe (the female is here described by the first time); and one species from Bolivia, A. facon sp. nov., from Cochabamba. Hypotheses of relationships of the new taxa are briefly discussed, in the context of the previously proposed groupings: the subfamilies Echeminae and Drassodinae (sensu Platnick 1990) and the “Echemus group” (sensu Murphy 2007).

The Genera of Fungi series, of which this is the sixth contribution, links type species of fungal genera to their morphology and DNA sequence data. Five genera of microfungi are treated in this study, with new species introduced in Arthrographis, Melnikomyces, and Verruconis. The genus Thysanorea is emended and two new species and nine combinations are proposed. Kramasamuha sibika, the type species of the genus, is provided with DNA sequence data for first time and shown to be a member of Helminthosphaeriaceae (Sordariomycetes). Aureoconidiella is introduced as a new genus representing a new lineage in the Dothideomycetes.

The little known species Nudina xizangensis Fang, 2000 is rediscovered from its type locality, Beibeng, Motuo County, Southeast Xizang, with genitalia of both sexes illustrated for the first time. Based on its unique genitalia structure, a new lichen moth genus, Paranudina Huang & Wang gen. nov., is described with N. xizangensis as the type species. Adults and genitalia of Paranudina xizangensis (Fang, 2000) comb. nov. and Nudina artaxidia (Butler, 1881) are compared and illustrated.

Abstract ‘Paraphiomys’ simonsi is a phiomorph rodent from the early Oligocene of Egypt (~29–30 Mya) that has historically been aligned with much younger (&lt; ~20 Mya) Miocene species of the genera Paraphiomys and Neosciuromys. Here, we use Bayesian tip-dating analysis of a 109-character morphological matrix containing 57 living and extinct ctenohystricans to test these proposed placements for ‘Paraphiomys’ simonsi. Our analyses provide support for the exclusion of ‘Paraphiomys’ simonsi from both Paraphiomys and Neosciuromys and justify the establishment of a new genus (Monamys gen. nov.) for this stem thryonomyoid. These analyses also indicate that the divergence of the extant dassie rat Petromus from the extant cane rat Thryonomys (i.e. origin of crown Thryonomyoidea) occurred ~23.7 Mya, close to the Oligocene–Miocene boundary and in close agreement with recent molecular estimates for this split. Miocene Neosciuromys, Paraulacodus, Protohummus and the type species of Paraphiomys are identified as stem thryonomyids, whereas the Namibian species Apodecter stromeri, Tufamys woodi, ‘Paraphiomys’ australis and ‘Paraphiomys’ roessneri are identified for the first time as stem petromurids, raising the possibility of a long period of endemic petromurid evolution in south-west Africa. Comparison of molecular divergence estimates with our optimal tip-dated topology suggests that stem bathyergoids are most likely to have arisen from late Eocene and early Oligocene ‘phiomyids’.

A taxonomic revision of the tribe Ceroptresini (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) is conducted for the first time. Prior to this study, the total number of valid species of Ceroptres, the only genus within Ceroptresini to date, was 23. As a result of this revision, 15 Ceroptres species are retained as valid and one species, Amblynotus ensiger Walsh, 1864, is desynonymized from Ceroptres petiolicola (Osten-Sacken, 1861), being considered here as a valid Ceroptres species: C. ensiger (Walsh, 1864) status verified and comb. nov. An additional five new species are described from Mexico: Ceroptres junquerasi Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. lenis Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. mexicanus Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. nigricrus Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. quadratifacies Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov., increasing the total number of valid Ceroptres species to 21. Ceroptres masudai Abe, 1997 is synonymized with C. kovalevi Belizin, 1973. Ceroptres niger Fullaway, 1911 is transferred to Andricus (Andricus confusus Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar comb. nov. and nom. nov.). Five species (Amblynotus inermis Walsh, 1864; Cynips quercusarbos Fitch, 1859; Cynips querficus Fitch, 1859; Cynips quercuspisum Fitch, 1859; and Cynips quercustuber Fitch, 1859) are not considered as valid Ceroptres. The status of Ceroptres quereicola (Shinji, 1938), previously classified as an unplaced species, is commented on. In addition, a Nearctic species from the USA, Ceroptres politus Ashmead, 1896, is here proposed as the type species of a new genus within Ceroptresini: Buffingtonella Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar gen. nov. Redescriptions, biological and distribution data, illustrations and keys to genera and species within Ceroptresini are provided. The diagnostic morphological traits of Ceroptresini, Ceroptres and the new genus are discussed.

AbstractStudy of new collections of the Wenlock and Pridoli, Silurian, crinoids from Saaremaa, western Estonia, result in taxonomic revision, expanded ranges, and new taxa. Eucalyptocrinites regularis and Periechocrinus laevis are recognized outside of Sweden for the first time. Desmidocrinus laevigatus Ausich et al., 2012 is reassigned to Methabocrinus. Because the type species of Methabocrinus was previously known only from glacial sediments, the age and provenance of this genus are constrained for the first time. A new crotalocrinitid, Velocrinus coniculus new genus and species, is described. Although the Pridoli faunas of western Estonia contain only twelve species-level taxa assigned to nine genera, this fauna is one of the four richest Pridoli faunas known.

Abstract. Small rosette borings, consisting of an excavated pit from which is subtended a system of branching galleries, are common in carbonate skeletal substrates in the Upper Jurassic Oxford Clay (Callovian-Oxfordian) and Kimmeridge Clay (Kimmeridgian) of southern England and northern France. The opening of the pit onto the substrate surface is surrounded by an agglutinated collar, which suggests that they may be the work of Foraminifera. The new genus and species, Globodendrina monile, are erected to accommodate them. Other examples of boring in the Foraminiferida are reviewed. It is proposed that other similar rosette boring ichnogenera may also be the work of foraminiferans.

A new genus, Krameragallia, type-species Agalliopsis rex gen. nov. Kramer, is described and illustrated. Krameragallia gen. nov. can be distinguished from all other known genera of Neotropical Agalliini by morphological features such as the following: largest size (7.4–9mm) among known species in the New World representatives of the subfamily; strong contrasting scarlet and black color pattern; aedeagus shaft very long, almost ribbon-like with ventral process; aedeagal apex bearing one pair of lateral slender processes on each side and first valvifer of female genitalia very well developed and hook-shaped. Female genitalia are described for the first time, including a highly unusual, well developed first valvifer. Notes on the genus as well as on the distinction between Krameragallia gen. nov., Agalliopsis Kirkaldy, Brasa Oman, and Chromagallia Linnavuori are given.

The genus Aglaotilla Brothers, gen. nov., is described for 14 striking species of Australian Mutillidae related to Ephutomorpha André, 1902, characterized by bright metallic coloration and strong punctation. The description of both sexes is possible through sex associations revealed by rearings from mud nests and trap nests. Both sexes of the type species, Ephutomorpha submetallescens Turner, 1916, are described and illustrated, the male for the first time. New combinations and a new name are proposed, as follows: Aglaotilla aeruginosa (Smith, 1879), comb. nov. (from Mutilla); A. australis (André, 1898), comb. nov.
