Time is a very important dimension of any aspect in human life, affecting also information and information management. As such, time must be dealt with in a suitable way, considering all its facets. The related literature already considered temporal information management from a pure database point of view: temporal aspects (also known as temporalities) of stored information cannot be neglected and the adoption of a suitable database management system (Temporal Database Management System - TDBMS) could be helpful. Recently, research of the temporal data management area started to consider business processes, extending and enriching models, techniques, and architectures to suitably manage temporal aspects. According to this scenario, the authors discuss here some of the main advantages achievable in managing temporal aspects and consider temporalities in process models, in exception definition, in the architecture of a Workflow Management System (WfMS), and in the scheduling of tasks and their assignment to agents.

AbstractAn object-oriented medical database management system is presented for a typical cardiologic center, facilitating epidemiological trials. Object-oriented analysis and design were used for the system design, offering advantages for the integrity and extendibility of medical information systems. The system was developed using object-oriented design and programming methodology, the C++ language and the Borland Paradox Relational Data Base Management System on an MS-Windows NT environment. Particular attention was paid to system compatibility, portability, the ease of use, and the suitable design of the patient record so as to support the decisions of medical personnel in cardiovascular centers. The system was designed to accept complex, heterogeneous, distributed data in various formats and from different kinds of examinations such as Holter, Doppler and electrocardiography.

PT Bukaka Teknik Utama adalah perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang engineering, konstruksi, dan manufaktur. Dalam operasional usaha, diperlukan berbagai izin seperti izin usaha dan izin proyek yang merupakan bagian dari Dokumen Legal. Saat ini informasi Dokumen Legal di PT Bukaka Teknik Utama dikelola dalam aplikasi desktop yang bernama SIDOL (Sistem Informasi Dokumen Legal). Aplikasi juga digunakan untuk memonitoring masa berlaku dokumen. Namun begitu, aplikasi ini memiliki beberapa kekurangan, diantaranya adalah hanya dapat diakses oleh komputer yang terpasang aplikasi tersebut, hanya dapat diakses dari jaringan lokal (LAN), dan sistem notifikasi yang hanya dapat dilihat saat pengguna membuka aplikasi. Untuk mengatasi kekurangan tersebut, akan dilakukan perancangan ulang aplikasi sehingga mampu menjawab kekurangan yang ada. Pembuatan aplikasi menggunakan metode prototipe. Metode ini memiliki lima tahapan pengembangan yaitu communication, quick plan, modeling quick design, construction of prototype, and deployment delivery and feedback. Aplikasi dibangun menggunakan bahasa pemrograman HTML untuk tampilan, PHP untuk pengolahan data di sisi server, CSS untuk page styling, Code Igniter sebagai framework, dan Micsosoft SQL Server sebagai Database Management System. Hasil akhir aplikasi adalah menyediakan aplikasi yang dapat diakses semua karyawan yang membutuhlkan informasi Dokumen Legal serta memberikan notifikasi melalui e-mail ketika terdapat dokumen yang masa berlakunya akan segera berakhir.
