We propose a novel Infrastructure-as-a-Service composition framework that selects an optimal set of consumer requests according to the provider’s qualitative preferences on long-term service provisions. Decision variables are included in the temporal conditional preference networks to represent qualitative preferences for both short-term and long-term consumers. The global preference ranking of a set of requests is computed using a k -d tree indexing-based temporal similarity measure approach. We propose an extended three-dimensional Q-learning approach to maximize the global preference ranking. We design the on-policy-based sequential selection learning approach that applies the length of request to accept or reject requests in a composition. The proposed on-policy-based learning method reuses historical experiences or policies of sequential optimization using an agglomerative clustering approach. Experimental results prove the feasibility of the proposed framework.

Conditional preference networks (CP-nets) are a compact but powerful formalism to represent and reason with qualitative preferences using the notion of conditional preferential independence. However, they suffer from incomparabilities between possible outcomes. Several works have attempted to overcome this weakness by quantifying CP-nets. This paper proposes a new approach combining two of the most interesting extensions of CP-nets, namely Probabilistic CP-nets (PCP-nets) using probability distribution to model uncertainty in different preference statements and Weighted CP-nets (WCP-nets) adding weights to express the relative importance of some attribute values regarding others. The new model so-called PWCP-nets combines the two models by handling both uncertainty and weights. Experimental results show the efficiency of this rich extension of CP-nets compared to PCP-nets and WCP-nets.

Despite the potential of the technique, electron tomography has yet to be widely used by biologists. This is in part related to the rather daunting list of equipment and expertise that are required. Thanks to continuing advances in theory and instrumentation, tomography is now more feasible for the non-specialist. One barrier that has essentially disappeared is the expense of computational resources. In view of this progress, it is time to give more attention to practical issues that need to be considered when embarking on a tomographic project. The following recommendations and comments are derived from experience gained during two long-term collaborative projects.Tomographic reconstruction results in a three dimensional description of an individual EM specimen, most commonly a section, and is therefore applicable to problems in which ultrastructural details within the thickness of the specimen are obscured in single micrographs. Information that can be recovered using tomography includes the 3D shape of particles, and the arrangement and dispostion of overlapping fibrous and membranous structures.

AbstractResection and reconstruction of midface involve complex ablative and reconstructive tools in head and oncology and maxillofacial prosthodontics. This region is extraordinarily important for long-term aesthetic and functional performance. From a reconstructive standpoint, this region has always been known to present challenges to a reconstructive surgeon due to the complex three-dimensional anatomy, the variable defects created, combination of the medical and dental functionalities, and the distance from reliable donor vessels for free tissue transfer. Another challenge one faces is the unique features of each individual resection defect as well as individual patient factors making each preoperative planning session and reconstruction unique. Understanding the long-term effects on speech, swallowing, and vision, one should routinely utilize a multidisciplinary approach to resection and reconstruction, including head and neck reconstructive surgeons, prosthodontists, speech language pathologists, oculoplastic surgeons, dentists, and/or craniofacial teams as indicated and with each practice pattern. With this in mind, we present our planning and reconstructive algorithm in midface reconstruction, including a dedicated focus on dental rehabilitation via custom presurgical planning.

Collateral mechanism in the Electricity Market ensures the payments are executed on a timely manner; thus maintains the continuous cash flow. In order to value collaterals, Takasbank, the authorized central settlement bank, creates segments of the market participants by considering their short-term and long-term debt/credit information arising from all market activities. In this study, the data regarding participants’ daily and monthly debt payment and penalty behaviors is analyzed with the aim of discovering high-risk participants that fail to clear their debts on-time frequently. Different clustering techniques along with different distance metrics are considered to obtain the best clustering. Moreover, data preprocessing techniques along with Recency, Frequency, Monetary Value (RFM) scoring have been used to determine the best representation of the data. The results show that Agglomerative Clustering with cosine distance achieves the best separated clustering when the non-normalized dataset is used; this is also acknowledged by a domain expert.

Purpose: Recurrent contracted sockets are complex situations where previous surgeries have failed, disabling the wear of an ocular prosthesis. A combined method of surgery and long-term fixation using custom-made, three-dimensional (3D) printed conformers is evaluated. Methods: Retrospective case series of nine patients with recurrent excessive socket contraction and inability to wear a prosthesis, caused by chemical burns ( n = 3), fireworks ( n = 3), trauma ( n = 2) and enucleation and radiotherapy at childhood due to optic nerve glioma ( n = 1) with three average previous socket surgeries (range 2–6). Treatment consisted of a buccal mucosal graft and personalized 3D-printed conformer designed to be fixated to the periosteum and tarsal plates for minimal 2 months. Primary outcome was the retention of an ocular prosthesis. Secondary outcome was the need for additional surgeries. Results: Outcomes were measured at final follow-up between 7 and 36 months postoperatively (mean 20 months). Eight cases were able to wear an ocular prosthesis after 2 months. Three cases initially treated for only the upper or only the lower fornix needed subsequent surgery for the opposite fornix for functional reasons. Two cases had later surgery for cosmetic improvement of upper eyelid position. Despite pre-existing lid abnormalities (scar, entropion, lash deficiency), cosmetic outcome was judged highly acceptable in six cases because of symmetric contour and volume, and reasonably acceptable in the remaining two. Conclusions: Buccal mucosal transplant fixated with a personalized 3D-designed conformer enables retention of a well-fitted ocular prosthesis in previously failed socket surgeries. Initial treatment of both upper and lower fornices is recommended to avoid subsequent surgeries for functional reasons.

From the 921 earthquake to the major typhoons, including the Morakot typhoon, they damaged original landscape of rivers in Taiwan. In recent years, it alleged that abutment bridge exposed to the most serious security problems. Because of bridge piers in addition to the face of long-term river erosion, the flood on the pier will produce localized erosion near the bridge. The pier will be due to inadequate bearing capacity, resulting in subsidence, displacement, bridge version accompanied by tilting and even caving. The river erosion of soil around the piers deposits and production of contraction will often reduce the bearing capacity. Therefore, how to accurately estimate the scour depth, calculate piers to withstand water impact and analyses its stability for preventing injuries in the first place is the current pressing issues. In this study, three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) analysis program Plaxis 3D foundation is used. Polaris second bridge is selected for analysis. Based on local scouring of the model and various numerical variable conditions, the parameter of bridge pier is studied.
