Coordination polymers containing a novel bis(oxine) bidentate ligand, namelyN,Nʼ-di(8-hydroxyquinolinolyl-5-methyl)-N,Nʼ-diethyl-1,3-propane diamine (QEPD) have been prepared with the metal ions Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Mn(II). The novel bis-(bidentate) ligand was synthesized by condensation of 5-chloromethyl-8-hydroxyquinoline hydrochloride withN,Nʼ-diethyl-1,2- propane diamine in the presence of a base catalyses. All of these coordination polymers and the parent ligand were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectral and diffuse reflectance spectral studies. The thermal stability and number- average molecular weights (Mn¯) of all of the coordination polymers were determined by thermogravimetric analyses and non-aqueous conductometric titrations, respectively. In addition, all of the coordination polymers have been characterized by their magnetic susceptibilities.

AbstractPolymeric complexes of ruthenium(II)-ruthenium(III) tetracarboxylato units linked by cyanato, thiocyanato, and selenocyanato ligands [Ru2{O2C(CH2)mCH3}4(L)]n (m = 0, 4–7; L = OCN−, SCN−, and SeCN−) were prepared and characterized based on the elemental analyses, IR, and diffuse reflectance spectra. Magnetic susceptibilities were measured at the temperature range of 4.5 K to 300 K, where the interdimer antiferromagnetic interactions were revealed. The strongest interaction was exhibited in case of m = 7 and L = OCN−. 1H-NMR spectra of [Ru{O2C(CH2)7CH3}4(SCN)]n in CD2Cl2 showed broad signals which can be ascribed to polymeric species, as the addition of tetrabutylammonium thiocyanate caused sharper signals due to the formation of [Ru2{O2C(CH2)7CH3}4(SCN)2]− adduct as the main species in the solution.

A new Mannich baseN-[morpholino(phenyl)methyl]acetamide (MBA), was synthesized and characterized by spectral studies. Chelates of MBA with cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) ions were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV spectral studies. MBA was found to act as a bidentate ligand, bonding through the carbonyl oxygen of acetamide group and CNC nitrogen of morpholine moiety in all the complexes. Based on the magnetic moment values and UV-Visible spectral data, tetracoordinate geometry for nitrato complexes and hexacoordinate geometry for sulphato complexes were assigned. The antimicrobial studies show that the Co(II) nitrato complex is more active than the other complexes.

A new ligand (2-methyl-5-nitro-1-imidazomethyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thione (L) and its Ag(I),Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes were synthesized. The authenticity of the ligand and its transition metal complexes were established by elemental analyses, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements, as well as spectroscopic (IR,1H NMR, electronic, mass and ESR) and thermal studies. The IR spectral studies revealed the existence thiol-thione tautamerism in the ligand molecule. The magnetic and electronic spectral studies suggest an octahedral geometry for Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes. The ligand acts as a bidentate coordinating through the N-3 nitrogen and the exocyclic sulfur atoms of oxadiazole rings. Antimicrobial screening of the ligand and its metal complexes were determined against the bacteriaEscherichia coliandSalmonella paratyphiA.

Three bidentate Schiff bases having nitrogen and sulphur donor sequences were prepared by condensing S-benzyldithiocarbazate (NH2NHCS2CH2C6H5) with heterocyclic aldehydes. The reaction of diphenyltin dichloride with Schiff bases leads to the formation of a new series of organotin(IV) complexes. An attempt has been made to prove their structures on the basis of elemental analyses, conductance measurements, molecular weights determinations, UV, infrared, and multinuclear magnetic resonance (H1,C13, andS119n) spectral studies. Organotin(IV) complexes were five- and six-coordinate. Schiff bases and their corresponding organotin complexes have also been screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities and found to be quite active in this respect.

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) were synthesized from Schiff base 2-{[(2-aminophenyl)imino]methyl}phenol and metformin. The authenticity of the transition metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements, as well as spectroscopic (IR, electronic) and thermal studies. IR spectral studies revealed the existence of the ligands in the amine form in the solid state. The magnetic and electronic spectral studies suggest an octahedral geometry for all the complexes. The metformin acts as a bidentate ligand and Schiff base ofo-phynelendiamine and salicylaldehyde acts as a tridentate ligand. Antimicrobial screening of the Schiff base, metformin and transition metal complexes were determined against the bacteriaEscherichia coliandBacillus megaterium.

A series of methyl-2-aminopyridine-4-carboxylate derivatives,3a–f,were synthesized in order to determine theirin vitroantimicrobial activity. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, FT-IR, and1H NMR spectral studies. Among the synthesized compounds,3cand3dshowed good antimicrobial activity compared to other compounds in the series.
