We treat the classical concept of domain of holomorphy inℂnwhen the holomorphic functions considered are restricted to lie in some Banach space. Positive and negative results are presented. A new view of the casen=1is considered.

A $*$-polynomial is a function on a complex Banach space $X,$ which is a sum of so-called $(p,q)$-polynomials. In turn, for non-negative integers $p$ and $q,$ a $(p,q)$-polynomial is a function on $X,$ which is the restriction to the diagonal of some mapping, defined on the Cartesian power $X^{p+q},$ which is linear with respect to every of its first $p$ arguments and antilinear with respect to every of its other $q$ arguments. The set of all continuous $*$-polynomials on $X$ form an algebra, which contains the algebra of all continuous polynomials on $X$ as a proper subalgebra. So, completions of this algebra with respect to some natural norms are wider classes of functions than algebras of holomorphic functions. On the other hand, due to the similarity of structures of $*$-polynomials and polynomials, for the investigation of such completions one can use the technique, developed for the investigation of holomorphic functions on Banach spaces. We investigate the Frechet algebra of functions on a complex Banach space, which is the completion of the algebra of all continuous $*$-polynomials with respect to the countable system of norms, equivalent to norms of the uniform convergence on closed balls of the space. We establish some properties of shift operators (which act as the addition of some fixed element of the underlying space to the argument of a function) on this algebra. In particular, we show that shift operators are well-defined continuous linear operators. Also we prove some estimates for norms of values of shift operators. Using these results, we investigate one special class of functions from the algebra, which is important in the description of the spectrum (the set of all maximal ideals) of the algebra.

Weak-star closures of Gleason parts in the spectrum of a function algebra are studied. These closures relate to the bidual algebra and turn out both closed and open subsets of a compact hyperstonean space. Moreover, weak-star closures of the corresponding bands of measures are reducing. Among the applications we have a complete solution of an abstract version of the problem, whether the set of nonnegative A-measures (called also Henkin measures) is closed with respect to the absolute continuity. When applied to the classical case of analytic functions on a domain of holomorphyΩ⊂Cn, our approach avoids the use of integral formulae for analytic functions, strict pseudoconvexity, or some other regularity ofΩ. We also investigate the relation between the algebra of bounded holomorphic functions onΩand its abstract counterpart—thew* closure of a function algebraAin the dual of the band of measures generated by one of Gleason parts of the spectrum ofA.

Abstract In this paper, we develop a method to construct holomorphic functions that exist only on infinite dimensional spaces. The following types of holomorphic functions f:U→ℂ on some open subsets U of an infinite dimensional complex Banach space are constructed: (1) f is bounded holomorphic on U and is continuously, but not uniformly continuously extended to U¯; (2) f is continuous on U¯ and holomorphic of bounded type on U, but f is unbounded on U; (3) f is holomorphic of bounded type on U and f cannot be continuously extended to U¯. The technique we develop is powerful enough to provide, in the cases (2) and (3) above, large algebraic structures formed by such functions (up to the zero function, of course).

AbstractLet Y be an infinite covering space of a projective manifold M in N of dimension n ≥ 2. Let C be the intersection with M of at most n − 1 generic hypersurfaces of degree d in N. The preimage X of C in Y is a connected submanifold. Let φ be the smoothed distance from a fixed point in Y in a metric pulled up from M. Let φ(X) be the Hilbert space of holomorphic functions f on X such that f2e−φ is integrable on X, and define φ(Y) similarly. Our main result is that (under more general hypotheses than described here) the restriction φ(Y) → φ(X) is an isomorphism for d large enough. This yields new examples of Riemann surfaces and domains of holomorphy in n with corona. We consider the important special case when Y is the unit ball in n, and show that for d large enough, every bounded holomorphic function on X extends to a unique function in the intersection of all the nontrivial weighted Bergman spaces on . Finally, assuming that the covering group is arithmetic, we establish three dichotomies concerning the extension of bounded holomorphic and harmonic functions from X to .

We introduce in this paper the space of bounded holomorphic functions on the open unit ball of a Banach space endowed with the strict topology. Some good properties of this topology are obtained. As applications, we prove some results on approximation by polynomials and a description of the continuous homomorphisms.

AbstractLet k ∈ ℕ and let E be a Banach space such that every k-homogeneous polynomial defined on a subspace of E has an extension to E. We prove that every norm one k-homogeneous polynomial, defined on a subspace, has an extension with a uniformly bounded norm. The analogous result for holomorphic functions of bounded type is obtained. We also prove that given an arbitrary subspace F ⊂ E, there exists a continuous morphism φk, F: (kF) → (kE) satisfying φk, F(P)|F = P, if and only E is isomorphic to a Hilbert space.

Let E be a Banach space and let B(R)⊂E denote the open ball with centre at 0 and radius R. The following problem is studied: given 0<r<R, ∊>0 and a function f holomorphic on B(R), does there always exist an entire function g on E such that |f-g|<∊ on B(r)? L. Lempert has proved that the answer is positive for Banach spaces having an unconditional basis with unconditional constant 1. In this paper a somewhat shorter proof of Lemperts result is given. In general it is not possible to approximate f by polynomials since f does not need to be bounded on B(r).
