High relative node velocity and high active node density have presented challenges to existing routing approaches within highly scaled ad hoc wireless networks, such as Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET). Efficient routing requires finding optimum route with minimum delay, updating it on availability of a better one, and repairing it on link breakages. Current routing protocols are generally focused on finding and maintaining an efficient route, with very less emphasis on route update. Adaptive route update usually becomes impractical for dense networks due to large routing overheads. This paper presents an adaptive route update approach which can provide solution for any baseline routing protocol. The proposed adaptation eliminates the classification ofreactiveandproactiveby categorizing them aslogical conditionsto find and update the route.

This article analyzes and compares the service quality metrics in reactive routing protocols AODV and DSR in VANET. Through the revision of the recorded information we study the characteristics, classification, applications and different traffic models. All these parameters are taken into account in the modelling of vehicular traffic in the downtown of Loja City. In order to get the corresponding results, three different scenarios each with a different node density have been created. According to the collected data, it is possible to verify which routing protocol is the most suitable for the Ad-Hoc networks proposed in this study.

Number of routing protocols has been proposed for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) based on various architectures, challenges and applications. Primary aim of these protocols is to maximise throughput and to minimize packet loss. Most of the researchers facing challenges while developing efficient routing protocol. So VANET require novel type of routing protocols. Unlike wired network, router nodes are not used as dedicated and protocols have to be performed by user, which is undependable. For supporting Intelligent Traffic System efficient design of routing protocol is important in VANETs. As it must for communication, the VANET routing protocol should create an efficient route between network nodes.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) is the most growing research area in wireless communication and has been gaining significant attention over recent years due to its role in designing intelligent transportation systems. Wireless multi-hop forwarding in VANETs is challenging since the data has to be relayed as soon as possible through the intermediate vehicles from the source to destination. This paper proposes a modified fuzzy-based greedy routing protocol (MFGR) which is an enhanced version of fuzzy logic-based greedy routing protocol (FLGR). Our proposed protocol applies fuzzy logic for the selection of the next greedy forwarder to forward the data reliably towards the destination. Five parameters, namely distance, direction, speed, position, and trust have been used to evaluate the node’s stability using fuzzy logic. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MFGR scheme can achieve the best performance in terms of the highest packet delivery ratio (PDR) and minimizes the average number of hops among all protocols.

Vehicular ad hoc networks is an emerging area for researchers to provide intelligent transportation system to the society. It is due to the wide area of applications of VANETs interest is developed among the people from different countries to be a part of it. Therefore many projects had been started and also presently working to implement VANETs in real world scenario. The main challenge in its implementation is to provide a secure mechanism against the various attacks and threats that have the capability to bring the network performance significantly down. In this paper to overcome different types of authentication based attacks in VANETs an ECDSA based secure routing protocol SE-AODV is proposed with security features incorporated in already existing AODV routing protocol. The performance of SE-AODV is evaluated and compared with original AODV and AODV with black hole attack (BH-AODV). The SE-AODV shows better performance with the parameters used for comparison with the variation in vehicle density, speed of vehicles and simulation time.
