In order to realize an optimal resource service allocation in current open and service-oriented manufacturing model, multiuser resource service composition (RSC) is modeled as a combinational and constrained multiobjective problem. The model takes into account both subjective and objective quality of service (QoS) properties as representatives to evaluate a solution. The QoS properties aggregation and evaluation techniques are based on existing researches. The basic Bees Algorithm is tailored for finding a near optimal solution to the model, since the basic version is only proposed to find a desired solution in continuous domain and thus not suitable for solving the problem modeled in our study. Particular rules are designed for handling the constraints and finding Pareto optimality. In addition, the established model introduces a trusted service set to each user so that the algorithm could start by searching in the neighbor of more reliable service chains (known as seeds) than those randomly generated. The advantages of these techniques are validated by experiments in terms of success rate, searching speed, ability of avoiding ingenuity, and so forth. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in handling multiuser RSC problems.

In order to overcome the bottlenecks of traditional network manufacturing, a new service-oriented networked manufacturing model, i.e. the cloud manufacturing (CMfg), was proposed recently. As an effective method for the realization of the added value of manufacturing resource, resource service composition (RSC) plays an important role in the implementation of CMfg. In view of the issue of dynamic changes occurred during RSC in CMfg, this paper presents the concept of flexibility of RSC as well as the idea of optimal-selection of RSC based on flexibility, which can enable RSC to have the ability to adapt to the dynamic changes. Meantime, the measurement method of flexibility of RSC is investigated. The optimal-selection of RSC based on flexibility can be achieved through quantitative evaluation of flexibility.

AbstractWeb service compositions are commendable in structuring innovative applications for different Internet-based business solutions. The existing services can be reused by the other applications via the web. Due to the availability of services that can serve similar functionality, suitable Service Composition (SC) is required. There is a set of candidates for each service in SC from which a suitable candidate service is picked based on certain criteria. Quality of service (QoS) is one of the criteria to select the appropriate service. A standout amongst the most important functionality presented by services in the Internet of Things (IoT) based system is the dynamic composability. In this paper, two of the metaheuristic algorithms namely Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are utilized to tackle QoS based service composition issues. QoS has turned into a critical issue in the management of web services because of the immense number of services that furnish similar functionality yet with various characteristics. Quality of service in service composition comprises of different non-functional factors, for example, service cost, execution time, availability, throughput, and reliability. Choosing appropriate SC for IoT based applications in order to optimize the QoS parameters with the fulfillment of user’s necessities has turned into a critical issue that is addressed in this paper. To obtain results via simulation, the PSO algorithm is used to solve the SC problem in IoT. This is further assessed and contrasted with GA. Experimental results demonstrate that GA can enhance the proficiency of solutions for SC problem in IoT. It can also help in identifying the optimal solution and also shows preferable outcomes over PSO.

The emergence of the Service Oriented computing paradigm with its implicit inclusion of web services has caused a precipitous revolution in software engineering, e-service compositions, and optimization of e-services. Web service composition requests are usually combined with end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, which are specified in terms of non-functional properties e.g. response time, throughput, and price. This chapter describes what web services are; not just to the web but to the end users. The state of the art approaches for composing web services are briefly described and a novel game theoretic approach using genetic programming for composing web services in order to optimize service performance, bearing in mind the Quality of Service (QoS) of these web services, is presented. The implication of this approach to cloud computing and economic development of developing economies is discussed.

As a new service-oriented manufacturing paradigm, cloud manufacturing (CMfg) has experienced rapid development in the past five years. The research on its theories, key technologies, developments, and applications still keeps attracting attentions from more and more researchers. One of the most important issues to its improvements and quality of service (QoS) is the manufacturing service management (MSM). CMfg aims to realize the full-scale sharing, free circulation and transaction, and on-demand use of various manufacturing resource and capabilities in the form of manufacturing service. Without the effective operation and technical support of MSM, the implementation of CMfg and its aim cannot be achieved. It is therefore necessary to summarize the existing works and technologies on MSM in CMfg. This paper first provides a brief overview of CMfg and then focuses on the problem of MSM in CMfg from the service lifecycle perspective. The advances on MSM technology from eleven aspects are investigated and summarized. Finally, future research directions are identified and discussed. It is evident that the future MSM in CMfg is closely related to Internet of things (IoT), big data, and cloud computing.

. In MG environment, resource consumers choose the optimal resource service according to their non-functional demands for quality of service (QoS) in terms of service execution time, reliability, and availability. Non-functional requirements of QoS can be organized and managed by utilizing Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards. In this study, architectures with QoS oriented mechanism with four layers for MG on the basis of SLA are provided. On the basis of the QoS oriented architectures, the management processes of SLA creation, negotiation and matching, monitoring and verification are discussed. Finally, a simple case is provided.

BACKGROUND: Remotely guided ultrasound (US) examinations carried out by nonmedical personnel (novices) have been shown to produce clinically useful examinations, at least in small pilot studies. Comparison of the quality of such exams to those carried out by trained medical professionals is lacking in the literature. This study compared the objective quality and clinical utility of cardiac and pulmonary US examinations carried out by novices and trained physicians.METHODS: Cardiac and pulmonary US examinations were carried out by novices under remote guidance by an US expert and independently by US trained physicians. Exams were blindly evaluated by US experts for both a task-based objective score as well as a subjective assessment of clinical utility.RESULTS: Participating in the study were 16 novices and 9 physicians. Novices took longer to complete the US exams (median 641.5 s vs. 256 s). For the objective component, novices scored higher in exams evaluating for pneumothorax (100% vs. 87.5%). For the subjective component, novices more often obtained clinically useful exams in the assessment of cardiac regional wall motion abnormalities (56.3% vs. 11.1%). No other comparisons yielded statistically significant differences between the two groups. Both groups had generally higher scores for pulmonary examinations compared to cardiac. There was variability in the quality of exams carried out by novices depending on their expert guide.CONCLUSION: Remotely guided novices are able to carry out cardiac and pulmonary US examinations with similar, if not better, technical proficiency and clinical utility as US trained physicians, though they take longer to do so.Dufurrena Q, Ullah KI, Taub E, Leszczuk C, Ahmad S.
