Electromagnetic properties of an anisotropic stratified slab with an arbitrary orientation of the anisotropy axis under an oblique incidence of a plane harmonic wave are studied. The dependence of the eigenwave wavenumbers and the reflection coefficient on an anisotropy axis orientation and frequency is investigated. For the first time, the expression for the translation matrix is obtained in the compact analytical form. The controlled two-way dual-frequency (duplex) isolator based on the above described slab is presented for the first time. It is based on the properties of the anisotropic structure described here but not on the Faraday effect.

Plane harmonic wave propagation along an interface between vacuum and a semi-infinite uniaxial anisotropic medium is considered. It is shown that there is a bulk wave within an anisotropic medium in this case. It is also proved for the first time that a reflected wave must propagate perpendicularly to an interface. Moreover, a reflected wave is absent in the case of ordinary wave propagation.

A simplified analytical form of the on-axis magnetic well and Mercier's criterion for interchange instabilities for arbitrary three-dimensional magnetic field geometries is derived. For this purpose, a near-axis expansion based on a direct coordinate approach is used by expressing the toroidal magnetic flux in terms of powers of the radial distance to the magnetic axis. For the first time, the magnetic well and Mercier's criterion are then written as a one-dimensional integral with respect to the axis arclength. When compared with the original work of Mercier, the derivation here is presented using modern notation and in a more streamlined manner that highlights essential steps. Finally, these expressions are verified numerically using several quasisymmetric and non-quasisymmetric stellarator configurations including Wendelstein 7-X.

Abstract. Using GPS dual-frequency observations collected by continuously operating GPS tracking stations in China, superimposed disturbances caused by the integrated action of spacecraft's physical effect and chemical effect on ionosphere during the launches of the spacecrafts Tiangong-1 and Shenzhou-8 in China were firstly determined. The results show that the superimposed disturbance was composed of remarkable ionospheric waves and significant ionospheric depletion emerged after both launches. Meanwhile, we found for the first time that the ionospheric waves were made up of two periods of wave by wavelet analysis. The first period of ∼ 4 min shows one event in the near stations and two sub-events in the few far stations. The second period of ∼ 9 min shows only one event in all the observed stations. Finally, the time characteristics for ionospheric waves and depletions were examined.

AbstractSilicidation of Ta-Ti-Si film on Si (111) and Si (100) substrates was investigated by a new radio frequency (RF) heating in order to evaluate the progress of reaction and establish whether the substrate orientation influence on the rate of reaction prevails. Substrate orientation was observed notwithstanding the high temperatures applied and the very short duration of RF. It was observed that while the reaction on Si (111) goes to completion, on Si (100) substrates under the same conditions intermediate phases remained. A qualitative analysis of the RF treatment of a conductor film on the silicon substrate is presented. It is done for the first time using the mathematical approach of the heat explosion theory. According to the analysis the specimens might experience either heating at constant temperature or by a sudden temperature increase. The relation between the parameters for the heat explosion regime is presented in simple analytical form. Measurable quantities such as sheet resistance and the magnetic field applied determine the stage of the process. The value of the resulting sheet resistance indicates whether the progress of the RF occurred by heating in the slow growth temperature regime or in the heat explosion stage where reactions of a conductor film occur within a fraction of a second.

ABSTRACTEpitaxial thin films of BaF2 were deposited for the first time onto (100) InP at a substrate temperature of around 450°C to 480°C by RF magnetron sputtering. The structural properties of the BaF2 film were a strong function of the substrate temperature during film deposition. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a pure c-axis orientation perpendicular to the substrate surface. Scanning electron microscopy surface scan indicated a highly textured film with grid growth morphology. Ellipsometry measurement on the films gave a refractive index in the range of 1.4 to 1.6. The capacitance vs voltage analysis on a capacitor with a structure of Au/BaF3/InP demonstrated a dielectric constant of around 7.3 for the BaF2.
